A male 'boomer on a red granite boulder in the Wichita Mountains WR, SW Oklahoma. These lizard like it hot, often perching on top of a boulder at mid-day.

I believe that this is a Rusty-rumped Whiptail (Aspidocelis septemvittata). This was observed in El Paso, Texas -- in the Franklin Mountains.
Its adaptations to its sand dune habitat allow it to run extremely fast on loose sand, disappear by burying itself in the sand in a moment, and live in a very low-moisture environment. Data recorded at www.naherp.com.
