David Jones AW13 Fashion Launch: Sydney, Australia - 6th February 2013...

A good dose of Australia's social set gathered to watch top line models including Miranda Kerr and Megan Gale strut at David Jones' Elizabeth Street store from around 7pm this evening.

Thirty-seven designers including Alex Perry, Collette Dinnigan and Zimmerman showcased over 230 looks alongside DJs runway debutants, Ellery, Rachel Gilbert and Banjo and Matilda.

Dual tone colours and prints featured heavily throughout the evening while lace and leather made a big comeback.

The 175-year-old retailer has reluctantly embraced new technologies to lift struggling sales and this year's event was livestreamed (via the internet) for the benefit of those who missed out on one of the show's exclusive tickets.

David Jones' group executive of merchandise Donna Player said those who couldn't attend could keep track of what was happening on social media.

"Customer viewing parties are a first and there will be stylists there as well. They can watch the livestream from Sydney, drink champagne and participate in the whole event even though they aren't physically here," she told Murdoch owned The Telegraph.

"It's bringing social media back to that whole tactile experience because they are able to buy the clothes straight away, the majority of those looks are in store immediately."

Well done to everyone involved in the success of the event. Now to wait and see if it makes a difference to the bottom line of the high end retailer.

The Hind Rajab Foundation is Calling on Greek Authorities to Investigate Israeli Soldier Involved in Athens Altercation (Publ. 14 Sept. 2025)

Athens – Sunday, September 14th 2025

The Hind Rajab Foundation has identified the Israeli individual who attacked Palestinian demonstrators in Syntagma Square, Athens, as David Hadar. Our research has also shown that he is a Sergeant in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Golani Brigade, a unit repeatedly implicated in war crimes in Gaza. The incident, which took place on 13 September 2025 in front of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, resulted in injuries and led to the arrest of all those involved.

Mr. Hadar is now under arrest, and the Hind Rajab Foundation is today sending a formal letter to the Greek authorities, calling for a thorough investigation into his role in both the Athens attack and potential war crimes committed by the Golani Brigade.

In its letter, the Hind Rajab Foundation is stressing that Hadar, 29, is a Sergeant in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Golani Brigade, an infantry unit repeatedly implicated in war crimes during the ongoing war in Gaza. Given his role and rank, it is highly likely that he has served in Gaza as part of the Brigade’s operations.

The Golani Brigade has been implicated in numerous atrocities, including the livestreamed attack on Nasser Hospital in August 2025, which killed 22 Palestinians—including a child and five journalists—as well as the murder of 15 Palestinian paramedics and rescue workers in Rafah paramedic massacre in March 2025. The Hind Rajab Foundation has already filed three legal complaints regarding crimes committed by this Brigade before international and national courts.

By submitting its letter, the Foundation is reminding Greece of its obligations under the Geneva Conventions to investigate and, where appropriate, prosecute individuals suspected of war crimes who are present on its territory.

“We are calling on the Greek authorities to uphold their legal obligations under international law by opening an investigation into David Hadar’s potential involvement in war crimes,” says Dyab Abou Jahjah (b. 1971), Chairman of the Hind Rajab Foundation. “The incident in Athens is not an isolated episode of violence—it reflects a broader pattern whereby individuals who have taken part in atrocities in Palestine are displaying the same aggressive behavior abroad." He added.

In March 2024, supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv assaulted a man carrying a Palestinian flag in Syntagma Square, Athens. In November 2024, in Amsterdam, Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were documented ripping down Palestinian flags, chanting “death to Arabs,” and attacking Palestinians and Arabs in the city, before wider clashes broke out.

These incidents demonstrate that individuals connected to Israel’s war in Gaza are carrying the same aggressive conduct abroad, turning European public spaces into extensions of that violence. It is therefore essential that the Greek authorities take decisive action in the case of David Hadar and uphold their obligations to investigate and hold accountable those implicated in war crimes.

Advent Wreath raised at York Minster as a sign of hope

One of the largest Advent wreaths in the country is being raised at York Minster today (Friday 27 November) as a sign of hope as the cathedral prepares to mark the start of Advent this Sunday.

The Archbishop of York, The Most Reverend Stephen Cottrell, will be at the Minster to see the 4m wide wreath lifted into place, for the start of what will be his first Advent and Christmas in the role of Archbishop.

The wreath will be suspended in its traditional place below the Central Tower for the first time since 2017, as scaffolding surrounding the Grand Organ as part of its once-a-century refurbishment has prevented it from being lifted into place for the last two years.

The wreath, which has been made by the cathedral’s volunteer flower arrangers using ivy and holly sourced mainly from the Minster’s gardens, will hold five candles which are gradually lit each Sunday during Advent in the countdown to Christmas Day.

The Archbishop of York, The Most Reverend Stephen Cottrell, said: “The raising of the Advent Wreath is a sign of hope – the hope that light will come to our darkness, the hope that life will overcome death, and the hope that God will be with us.

“I pray that in these weeks as we journey towards Christmas together, that people will be filled with these hopes. I am praying that all will discover that in Jesus they can be made whole and be fulfilled.”

The first of the 1m tall candles, which are capable of burning constantly for three weeks, will be lit on Sunday (29 November), the first day of Advent, during the Minster’s 11am Eucharist service.

Public worship is not currently permitted in the cathedral but the service will be livestreamed via the Minster’s website and social media channels for people to join from home. A special service called ‘Looking for the Light – A Sequence of Music and Readings for Advent Sunday’, will also be livestreamed at 4pm on Sunday.

The remaining candles will be lit each Sunday building up to the lighting of the final candle on Christmas Day, which represents the birth of Christ, the light of the world. They will remain lit until the Feast of Epiphany on 6 January, although at least two will need to be replaced during the five weeks.

In addition to the digital worship opportunities, the Minster is currently open for private prayer from 10am – 12noon Monday to Saturday (excluding Tuesdays when the Minster is closed) and 1pm – 3pm on Sundays.

Full details of York Minster’s programme for the start of Advent 2020 are available via the cathedral’s website at www.yorkminster.org.

Piles is a durational video performance piece about bodies. It consists of a collection of over 22 hours of video recordings, livestreamed on Twitch, of the piling up of dead or unconscious bodies in seven different video games. The piece programmatically switches between and juxtaposes these videos, calling attention to how different video games conceptualize, and enforce, their inherent views on death and the body.
