Nestled in the Rockbridge County countryside, the well-known community of Lexington boasts a rich history and outstanding architectural variety. Building types range from Shenandoah Valley vernacular forms through sophisticated examples of Romantic Revivalism. Lending luster are works by the nationally prominent architects Thomas U. Walter, Alexander Jackson Davis, and Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue. The town was authorized in 1778, and was a prospering county seat by the 1790s. Growth was stimulated by the establishment of Washington and Lee University and the Virginia Military Institute. Their adjoining campuses constitute one of America’s celebrated architectural assemblages. Scattered through the shady residential areas is a delightful mix of dwelling types. Prominent representatives are the Federal Reid-White-Philbin House of 1821, and the Presbyterian Manse, an archetypal Gothic Revival villa. The Lexington Historic District is now protected by historic zoning with the commercial area having undergone extensive rehabilitation spearheaded by the Historic Lexington Foundation. (1)

Also of note from that year (and potentially individually eligible) is the Classical Revival Robert E. Lee Hotel (117-0027-0051) at 26-34 South Main Street built “by the Wise Granite and Construction Company according to designs by Marcellus Wright, a Richmond architect,” according to its 2016 survey form. Built in the 1850's, It is a brick house with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It has two storeys and a front of three bays, the right bay projecting forward as a gabled wing. The two bays on the left each contain a tall window in both floors, and there is a ground floor verandah. In the right wing is a single-storey canted bay window, above which is a window with two round-headed lights. On the left side is a doorway with a moulded architrave.

This building was completed by 1839, under the supervision of (and probably designed by) Decimus Burton. It is constructed of red brick with a pitched roof of slate. It has two storeys, with three ranges of sash windows.
This is the record showing the passenger list for the SS Nevada, the ship part of my family was on during their passage from Germany to America. Dated Oct 11, 1872, passengers boarded in Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland.
Marten H. Swart, the patriarch of the family is not on the list. I still have to figure this one out. His name looks like it is scratched out and Addina Swart is written in. That was his wife. Her name is on the second line from the top.
The children listed are Henrietta, Johann, Diedrich, Jno. Addina, Martin, Thos. and Hembina. Thomas and Hembina both died en route and were buried at sea.
These two red K6 telephone kiosks are both Grade II listed buildings. They stand outside the Central Library on West Bromwich High Street.
The parked bike made the shot a little more interesting.

The building is grade 2 listed and is a mid 19th century shop last used as green grocer's shop although it has had a number of uses. English Heritage describe it as a very unusual survival.

Booker T. Washington High School is significant in architecture as a fine example of a medieval-style, modern school built in the 1920s during Atlanta's major school building program. Each school carried a unique design. This school continues to physically dominate the neighborhood into which it was placed, giving it the presence almost of a medieval cathedral in its impact as a cultural institution. The design is the work of Eugene C. Wachendorff (1880-1957), who also supervised the 1948 additions which continued his original design. His other major known works include the Lamar County Courthouse and several hospitals.
It is also significant in education and black history as the first black public high school built in Atlanta. Because of this it became an important cultural institution in the black community, produced many of its future leaders, and was attended by many out-of-town students due to the quality of its education. It was built as part of Atlanta's school improvement program supported by a bond issue that created sixteen schools in the early 1920s. Its inclusion in the program was a result of political pressure from the black community.
It is also significant in education for the role played by Charles L. Harper (1875-1955), the first principal, who was involved in educational organizations and was a champion for educational and civil rights. The school is significant in art because of the statue of Booker T. Washington by Charles Keck, a nationally known sculptor whose works are also found in the U.S. Capitol and for the mural by student Wilmer Jennings which is a forerunner of the W.P.A.-style murals of the 1930s. These areas of significance support property eligibility under the National Register Criteria A, B, and C.
