It might have been a tranquil sunset to enjoy, but mosquitoes began to swarm us from the marsh. . .so we did not linger to enjoy the fading rays of gold. . .
I love this pose that a lioness offered in Masai Mara. So non- threatening, so non- lethal and almost melancholy, docile and vulnerable. One can be so fooled by the animals in Africa. One can be so surprised by the animals as well. Just stop and linger and watch. They will show you that they have moods and emotions.

But I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to, do you have to let it linger

When winter meets spring and the morning mist returns with the promise of summer...
In March snowflakes turn into shy snowdrops that welcome spring... Winter doesn't want to go... it lingers at night, but the days are warmer and the birds return to sing goodbye to winter.
Spring is slowly moving in...
I have waited long for you to come back home
To hear you call my name again
In my heart's deep soul you've not changed at all
And the years have passed you by
Your sweet lips that lingered on my skin
I can feel their heat again
And your eyes that thrilled with passion's fire
They watch my every whim
Some say my love, sweet love was lost
While crossing the raging main
Or perhaps he has gone with some other girl
I might never see his face again
But if my Irish love is lost he's the one I do adore
And for seven long years I'll wait for him
On the banks of the moorlough shore
He said farewell to castles grand
Farewell to the foggy hills
Where the linen waves like bleaching silk
And the falling stream runs still
Near there we spent our joyful days but alas they are all gone
For cruelty has banished him
Far away from the moorlough shore.

This is what the CN transfer from CP Stinson Yard looked like 11 years ago on this date in 2009. EJ&E 665 and 660 rumble railroad north over the Nemadji River, south of Superior, WI back on Sept. 18, 2009, with a pretty good cut of boxcars for Pokey Yard.
The lead 665 has a Helper Link on the front as the J 38s spent much of 2009 in helper and transfer service around Pokegama Yard. Their time in this service was about to come to a close and they would be eventually replaced by SD60Fs in helper service, although a few J SD38-2s would linger around Proctor into 2010.
This CN transfer still runs daily out of Stinson. It is often shorter, includes double-stack containers from Duluth, and is usually pulled by CN Dash 9s.
Tracks vanishing in the mist have a strange symbolism. Like to never take a train to some other world as master Miyazaki had portayed. The train would be full of spooky strangers anyway. Only ghosts could travel to such a mist. And yet, the hope lingers. Or is it a fear of that actually happening one day? To fly away or to become a ghost, there is no difference...

This photo, taken November 6, 2021, documents the presence of wildflowers and butterflies in late fall in the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area in western Colorado. The most abundant flowers were on on rabbitbrush, Chrysothamnus nauseosus. I saw dozens of clouded sulphur butterflies, Colias philodice on rabbitbrush in the 3 balmy days that I was there. This photo shows the only sunflower blossom that I saw in 3 days.
For reasons that I do not understand, I was never able to get a view of the dorsal surface of the wings, so the butterflies might have been orange sulphurs, Colias erytheme.
As I was traveling to this area, I expected to see only dried flowers and no insects. What a pleasant surprise!
"After a long relaxing day at the beach, she was ready to go home.
Everything was packed but she lingered, wanting to take in every little detail and memorize it.
The salty smell of the sea, the warm setting sun on her skin..."

These days will pass. Sometimes I have to go inward to find the way out. One positive thing about that is that I don't have to leave the house to do it.
"Gardening imparts an organic perspective on the passage of time."

The self-sowing perennials in my flower garden seem to have spread exponentially. The Black-Eyed Susans, also known as Rudbeckia, are a favorite of the many bees I find zipping here and there. It seems I keep finding more and more reasons to linger in the garden.
This shot was taken at Norah Head Beach during that funny moment when night isn’t quite over, and day hasn’t fully arrived — a hush falls over everything, like the world is holding its breath.
It’s as if two shift workers are crossing paths.
Night lingers on the distant sea cliffs, reluctant to clock off, maybe angling for a bit of overtime.
Day ambles in slowly, still yawning, tossing a few lazy rays toward the rocks — no coffee yet, but doing his best.
“Morning, mate,” says Day. “How was the shift?”
“Not bad,” replies Night. “Bit quiet, though that moon’s a real lunartic. Everyone on the night shift thinks they’re a star performer.”
“How’s the day shift going?”
“Oh, you know… not bad either. But working with family can be tricky — especially my Sun. Fiery temper, that one.”
They nod, exchange the usual pleasantries, and part ways.
Same sky, different shifts.
Between them, the coast lies quiet, still settling from the moonlit tides, waiting ...
This a a blend of 3 bracketed exposures.
Have a great weekend & thanks for any comments — they’re always greatly appreciated!

The Dornier Do 31 is an experimental vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) jet-propelled transport designed and produced by West German aircraft manufacturer Dornier.
The development of the Do 31 was motivated principally by heavy interest expressed by the German Air Force in the acquisition of short take-off and vertical landing aircraft (STOVL)-capable aircraft. Such ambitions received a further boost from the issuing of NATO specification NBMR-4, which called for a VTOL-capable tactical support aircraft that would be operated in conjunction with the EWR VJ 101, a West German VTOL strike aircraft designed under the NATO contract of BMR-3. A total of three aircraft, two flight-capable and one static airframe, were constructed and used for testing. On 10 February 1967, the Do 31 performed its maiden flight; the first hovering flight of the type took place during July 1967.
In addition to performing test flights, Dornier often demonstrated the Do 31 prototypes to officials and the general public, such as at the 1969 Paris Air Show. Several world records were set by the type during its limited flying career. When the high cost, technical and logistical difficulties of operating such an aircraft were realized, the German Air Force opted to cease trials involving VTOL aircraft, such as the Do 31, VJ101, and the later VFW VAK 191B. In the face of limited sales prospects and a lack of state support, the Do 31 and other VTOL projects lingered as research projects for a time prior to their manufacturers abandoning all activity. The Do 31 remains the only VTOL-capable jet-powered transport aircraft to ever fly.
