Kay Brothers Winery on our wine tour of the McLaren Vale September 6, 2013 South Australia.
Bordering St.Vincent's Gulf, 40 kms south of Adelaide, the Kay Brothers McLaren Vale Amery Vineyards grace the rolling foothills of the Southern Mt.Lofty Ranges. Established in 1890 by Australian born brothers Herbert and Frederick Kay the Heritage Listed Kays Amery Winery celebrated its first grape crush in 1895 and is the oldest McLaren Vale winery still in founding family hands with third generation Colin Kay continuing the family winemaking tradition. The winery is located at the top of a hill 5 kms from the McLaren Vale Township and the Cellar Door, which is part of the original Winery complex, boasts some stunning panoramic views of the surrounding picturesque valleys and hillsides. The welcome at Cellar Door is as friendly as the view is seductive so allow plenty of time during your visit to taste the renowned selection of traditional premium estate wines and explore the Kay Family diaries dating from 1891.
Kay's are specialist traditional red wine makers utilising grapes from their own 22-hectare Amery Vineyard. The grape varieties grown are Shiraz (including the 1892 Block 6), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Viognier, Grenache, Mourvedre (Mataro) and Muscat Blanc. Colin Kay's winemaking philosophy is to make rich fullbodied fruit-driven wines (using the original Open Fermenters and Basket Press) with small oak cask maturation.

A good many years having elapsed since I last viewed this photo, I nearly mis-identified the location as the Uxbridge terminus of the Piccadilly Line. In fact, it’s at the opposite end, Cockfosters. Both stations are to the same interior design, a supremely functional yet stylish and avant garde design by Charles Holden. Opening in 1933, Cockfosters station has worn its years well. A train of 1973 Tube Stock stands at the buffers. These trains entered service on the Piccadilly Line in 1976, coinciding with the line’s westward extension towards Heathrow Airport. They have now clocked up some 45 years of service, but are scheduled for replacement in 2024.

Think this is the favorite shoot from the series. And i managed to get the focus too.
The Aero Ektar is a wonderfull lens, but it takes a bit more that a summer and 24 sheets of film to manage. . .
Green Line Leyland Tiger / ECW TPC 101X, TL1 is seen here when nearly new in 1982 laying over at Luton Airport. It was one of a number of new vehicles that were based at St Albans that were used to upgrade the 757 between London Victoria and Luton Airport. Later the vehicle passed to Midland Red North and was rebodied by East Lancs in 1990, it was last operated by Aintree Coachlines before scrapping in 2005.

The Tennessee/Georgia state line at this point is about 12 miles south of where I grew up in Cleveland, Bradley County, Tennessee. Back before there was an interstate highway, this was the quickest way from Cleveland to Atlanta, Georgia, where my Conn grandparents and lots of other extended family lived. It was a 120 mile trip (one way) and we made it several times a year. Dad always honked the horn and my siblings and I yelled and clapped every time we crossed the state line, either going to Atlanta or returning home again.

Underexposed my Delta, came back with interesting results to say the least.
Today, I was snapping some pictures on the Red Line. When this couple got on at Wilson they exclaimed "Look at the guy with the camera!" Unable to ignore their proclamation, I said hello and asked them if they wanted me to take their picture. They said yes, so I quickly snapped a photo. He said that there were video surveillance cameras in the train already (and pointed them out to me), so why care about one more? He gave me a bit of education about which places on the train were shielded from the camera's gaze, and replied that he had spent a lot of time on the streets when I mentioned that he seemed to know a lot of interesting stuff about the train.
The lighting was bad, though--today was quite overcast--and the first shot came out very underexposed. But then, the clouds broke and the sun shone right on them, so I asked if I could take another. Unfortunately I seem to have been having focusing/camera shake issues today (several of my shots were out of focus), and these two folks came out a bit blurry. I've tried to rectify it with some selective sharpening in photoshop, and overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, despite its many problems (there are quite a few blown out areas as well, because I had accidentally left my camera set to overexpose by one stop when the lighting was bad).
My stop came before I was able to ask them their names.

A/C, safe deposit box, fire alarm and audio system. Also life jackets, desk and tabouret, wardrobe, night stand, small sofa and a porthole window. Bathrooms have toilet, shower, wash basin and hair dryer. Some cabins have indoor passage access to the bar and restaurant area.
Upper deck dining room with A/C for single sitting dining. The restaurant includes bar area with LCD TV, with a corner table for buffet breakfast . Part of the dining area extends outdoors as a lounge area, with panoramic views. Free wireless internet access (Wi-Fi).
The kitchen is built to the latest HACCP standards. The sundeck has a total surface of 200 sq m (2,152 sq ft), partial sun-shade cover, deck-beds for all passengers and a Jacuzzi. The covered part of the upper deck is spacious enough to accommodate all passengers and has tables, chairs with and lavatory. The vessel has a rear access platform to the sea as well as ladders for access to the water. The vessel has two outdoor showers and 3 deck lavatories.

The St.Ives branch line is one of the best train journeys in the UK, most of it runs alongside the best beaches of Cornwall.
The last of the evening sunlight falls on the 2A50 2003 St.Ives - Lelant Saltings service, as it runs above Porthkidney Sands, between Lelant and Carbis Bay.
For two weeks, the branch has been running between Lelant Saltings and St.Ives, due to reconstruction of the bay platform at St.Erth in connection with the new park and ride facilities which open on 3rd June. British Rail opened the original park and ride facility at Lelant Saltings in 1978, in conjunction with Cornwall Council. It is now no longer able to cope with traffic levels, so is being replaced by larger and better facilities at St.Erth, which has a direct road from the A30.
