A long line of hikers make their way up Mt. Halla on Jeju Island, South Korea...
Seongpanak Trail, the 9.5 km route up the eastern side of the mountain, is currently the only route that will take you up to Baengnokdam summit.
A little dull the first couple of km, the trail opens up near the top to reveal amazing 360 degree views of some of the nearly 400 "oreums" or hills that dot the landscape like ant hills across the southeastern part of the island.

South Wimbledon Underground Station (Northern Line), 1 May 2023. The station was opened by the City and South London Railway (C&SLR) in September 1926 on the Morden extension southwards from the C&SLR’s Camden Town/Euston – Clapham Common line, first proposed before WWI. The intention was to name the station Merton Grove but on opening it was called South Wimbledon. However, from 1928 South Wimbledon (Merton) appeared on tube maps (and may have been on platform roundels from opening) but not on the station façade which continued to show simply South Wimbledon. In any case, from about 1950 the Merton was dropped from all signage and maps.
The Chief Architect of the Underground Electric Railways of London (the umbrella company for the C&SLR) was the experienced Charles Heap who presented his designs of the proposed stations to the General Manager of the UERL, Frank Pick. But Pick did not like them, thinking them too conservative. Unusually, he commissioned the Architect Charles Holden of the practice Adams, Holden & Pearson to design the stations which must have been a real snub to Heaps. Nonetheless, there seems to have developed a good working relationship between the two notwithstanding Holden holding the predominant position with Pick.
South Wimbledon station is typical of Holden’s first work for the UERL being in Modernist style and clad in Portland Stone and a three part glazed screen in the centre of the double height façade divided by two columns with capitals which are a three-dimensional depiction of the Underground roundel, whilst the central part of the glazed screen contains a large roundel. The station was built with a shop each side, again a typical Holden feature. The station is Grade II listed.

60103 Flying Scotsman brought the DBC operated 1Z87 ‘Scotsman Salute’ to York from Kings Cross. 90028 was to take the tour southbound and was named ‘Sir William McAlpine’ and painted DB red for the occasion.
After the naming ceremony in the National Railway Museum main hall, both 60103 and 90028 were lined up briefly for photos together before the Skoda would take the railtour back to Kings Cross.
60008 (now in long term storage at Toton) was named ‘Sir William McAlpine’. The name has been transferred to 90028, although new nameplates were used.

With the (temporary) absence of 38 stock on the Northwern, the Bakerloo was a reasonably good substitute.
Day 2 in New York, we went on a boat cruise around Manhattan Island as well as walked along the High Line - a section of former rail-line, now a pathway. There was a mixture of new and old buildings along the walk including this crooked shaped one. Definitely worth doing if you visit NY.

I also had a hard time with which stitch to use. I finally decided on a simple cross stitch as I think it matched the fabric better then the rose bud stitch that I had originally started to sew.

Theme: Stripes
When I thought "Stripes", I thought "Zebra". It was automatic
(e.g. the pop band "The Stripes" in my mind was "The Zebras")
When I thought "Stripes" without "Zebra" some mental block happened because I couldn't see "Stripe" as the dictionary says: "a line of one colour on a background of a different colour" (McMillan): the format of the line in my mind had to be somehow irregular, like the Zebra's stripes :). So, I think I've learned a lesson with this week's theme.

The RKCX wagons are open wagons designed to carry merchant bar steel, which is typically galvanized steel used in a variety of applications. RKCX wagons are often fitted with tarpaulins to protect the steel from the elements during transport.
Limited to 80km/h, these wagons can carry up to 57 tonnes of steel products, with a total gross weight of 80 tonnes. The class is made up of former SA/Vic ELX type open wagons.
A Soo Line leader of the G35 train from Spaulding Jct to Bensenville rumbles past the historic Bartlett Milwaukee Road depot. There was too much glare for a strobe to illuminate the lettering on the lashup.Looked like the same lashup as Mark Llanuza caught this past weekend

Soo 4-6-2 #2719 started its five weekends of runs on the North Shore Scenic Railroad in Duluth yesterday. Here the second train of the 2011 steam season chugs up Lemon Drop Hill with 3 passenger cars for Two Harbors on Aug. 13, 2011. Will run each Fri-Sun. through Sept. 11.
Even the four year old found this runby more impressive than Thomas. Maybe there is hope for the future generation.
18th Decemeber 2021 - 37716 sits at the back of the Doveholes quarry - Wasn't sure about uploading this one as the fog ruined any attempt at decent light, but at the same time it added a bit of atmosphere to it.

The High Line is an elevated park converted from an old freight railroad that ran above the streets of New York City. The elevated railroad lifted trains 30 feet in the air and removed the dangerous freight trains from the streets of Manhattan.
The non-profit, Friends of the High Line, worked with mayor Michael Bloomberg and city council to reverse the decision to demolish the High Line and instead convert it into a public park, and also led the design process of the transformation.

Bunker SJ 6
The Mannerheim Line was a defensive fortification line on the Karelian Isthmus built by Finland against the Soviet Union. During the Winter War it became known as the Mannerheim Line, after Field Marshal Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim. The line was constructed in two phases: 1920–1924 and 1932–1939. By November 1939, when the Winter War began, the line was by no means complete.
The line was fortified with several bunkers that are still left.

I have had a bunch of little colored glasses around for a long time now.
At this point I have about nine less.
This is a picture of the last moments of three of those glasses. If you look closely you can see the steel bearing over the blue water. It was a little high and may be skipping over the surface of the liquid.
