To be a 18" x 24" color woodcut, coming this fall to www.tugboatprintshop.com!
What you see here is the original drawing, drawn directly on wood, in the beginning stages of being carved out in relief. Actually, most of the intricate interior of the wings have been carved, just the outside to go!

The process of Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) can be daunting when it comes to the ratio of good to bad images. For the Aksa Collection, I made two excursions to Aksa Beach in Mumbai in 2022. In each session, I took around 2,000 photos of people along the crowded shoreline. Of those thousands of photos, the culling process is arduous to say the least. That’s because the practice of ICM is about as imperfect of an art form as any in existence. Achieving just the right bit of camera movement to capture a scene with a slow shutter speed is a trick no matter how many times I may have done it. It can be extremely frustrating, especially when something fantastic is happening and all the shots are garbage. And then from the small pool of keepers begins the process of discovering micro scenes within the frame. Can the image be cropped in just such a way so as to give the image a new sense of meaning? And what kind of impact do these highly Impressionist images have on my subconscious?
I may spend quite some time experimenting with an image only to come to the conclusion that nothing’s there. It may look good to me but it doesn’t resonate. And then from the smaller pool of potential pieces, further experimentation is done to see if it’s even possible to create something different from the other images within the same batch or from previous visits. I spend a lot of time removing the tell-tale signs of ICM squiggly lines from an image if necessary because the effect can be too strong. But sometimes, in very rare situations, the camera shake is spot on and the image itself requires just a little bit of post-production - like a song that appears to a songwriter out of nowhere, almost entirely written. When this happens, I couldn’t be happier because it means that I’ve saved potentially hours of time experimenting because the aesthetics are there along with a sense of connection to the image. And it’s all about that for me the longer I practice photography and art: if there’s no connection in the end, I’m not going to bother.

A series of limited edition prints of ten images revealing layers of time & place, hope & faith, science & religion. Contemplation and questioning, at a time of grief for my father's death. Letters-in-a-book is a series of ten images using layers of old letters found in a thrift shop, written between Oct. 1945 and July 1946, sent from family members in Warsaw, Poland to kin in Shawinigan, Quebec. These letters convey post-WWII life in, then occupied, Poland, at a time and place that reminds me of my father as a young man from this part of the world, at his most vital time in life.
Also included are personal letters sent to me by my husband.
These handwritten and typed letters are juxtaposed with two old books. One is a book of ancient & modern "Hymns" of the Church of St James The Apostle and the other is “EOS, Or the Wider Aspects of Cosmogony*” by J. H. Jeans. Books that represent my Roman Catholic, religious upbringing while at the same time further reflecting my own personal search for meaning at a very contemplative time in my life.
“The universe which we study with such care may be a dream, and we brain-cells in the mind of the dreamer.”
*cosmogony
1. cos·mog·o·ny
A specific theory or model of the origin and evolution of the universe.
2. cosmogony
n : the branch of astrophysics that studies the origin and evolution and structure of the universe, one such theory can be found in Genesis.

Color blocks to print under the hyper-detailed black key block for the "OVERLOOK" woodcut. More carving will be done during the proofing process, which will begin as soon as the red block has been carved in full! Shouldn't be long...!
One more block (in addition to the 3 color & key) will add into this color mix as well.
Pictured on the block is the pen color used to draw the color info in, not the final printed color. All of our inks are custom mixed for printing.
This is the red block.

Roadways Of Life: A series of limited edition prints I created at the time of my father's death.
Using old patterns that my late father had made over a period of many years as a pattern maker (that was his trade as a tailor) which my mother had given to me after his death. There were literally thousands of these patterns left behind, of which I chose only a few.
I have been painting on them and in this case I scanned many of them and then proceeded to do my art on them, in this way, in photoshop by layering his patterns and my painting, also incorporating other items of importance to either him or me.
It's a kind of a self portrait of sorts of my father and myself.

Woman-Child
I work with a young woman who has grown up too soon. She is caged by labels: her own, her family’s, society’s. A woman still a child, neither here nor there yet mothering a child. A girl who hasn’t crossed the bridge—the luminal place suspended between back-when and what’s-next. She clutches at her past as if falling from it would kill her, yet the thing she clings to, is just the nearest shore.
She stands at a bridge of stone and wood and air: that dangerous space between times. Her life will move on, like the river below. Or stand still watching, waiting. Always waiting.
Stone: my caring rests like pebbles on my tongue, a hard reminder always rolling between thoughts, that stones can break my teeth, sink heavy in my heart. Or stones can build foundations: for bridges, shelter, justice, schools.
Wood: I can open the cage door, try to draw her out. I can point to the other shore -- the gated arch, an open hand, her future. I cannot protect her from uncertainty and pain. There are no guarantees.
Air: I will remind her to breathe. I will teach her to dance. I will not carry her across in my cupped hands, but build for her some wings.

As a Flickr latecomer, I thought I'd throw back to some of my early works first. This photograph features a magnificent sunrise and a small fishing boat moored at Dolphin Island, off Karratha, on the West Pilbara Coast of Western Australia, Australia.
Released as a limited-edition print (edition of 12), "Vivid Awakening" holds a special place in my heart because it played a pivotal role in my development as a landscape and nature photographer.
By this time I’d been dabbling in photography for years on and off, during my travels and as a casual hobby, having bought my first (film) SLR camera in 2000 or thereabouts while living - and travelling - in the UK. But the confidence I gained from this one image is what gave me the impetus to follow the path that has led me to when I now stand.
In essence, you could say, “Vivid Awakening” was my awakening as a photographer!
Having camped overnight on Dolphin Island, near Karratha, I have to concede I would have missed this spectacle if it wasn’t for my father-in-law banging on the tent and telling my wife and I with some urgency to get up! Stumbling out blurry-eyed we were simply in awe of the show Mother Nature was putting on for us - the colours in the sky were just spectacular.
