I was passing by last weekend, so I had to go in & see if they had it in stock. Everyone there was so sweet.
The two young ladies behind the counter were so nice.
When I told them it was my print, they insisted someone bring it out from the stockroom so I could see it. They had to take it out of the box & even though I told them that was not nec. they did it anyway.
One of them told me it should be hanging in the window, so #fingerscrossed.
Color blocks to print under the hyper-detailed black key block for the "OVERLOOK" woodcut. More carving will be done during the proofing process, which will begin as soon as the red block has been carved in full! Shouldn't be long...!
One more block (in addition to the 3 color & key) will add into this color mix as well.
Pictured on the block is the pen color used to draw the color info in, not the final printed color. All of our inks are custom mixed for printing.
This is the blue block.

I felt the need to do something simplistic. Something serene with a clean color pallet. This image is from my excursion to the beautiful Catalina Islands. The message is meant to be simple and easy to read. The title comes from a little known fact that we are in essence 72% water. A metaphor for the fragility of our peace of mind, the brevity of our lives, the pouring out of ourselves into relationships and work and our inability to hold back our feelings and emotions. Emotions that just bubble out of the tiniest crack or seam… Lady Caroline

*Pacific Dreams* - Limited Edition Gold 100 Series - Kauai, HI, USA
*The Shot & News*
Planning is a huge part of my landscape photography. Actual shooting only a small part. Being at the right spot at the right time has a lot to do with research and waiting for the right moment. Often hours at the same location. Well, in this case, I couldn't just wait for hours. After a certain period of time, we had to move on with our helicopter, but I intentionally wanted to be at this part of the island at around noon. It is a weird time for landscape photography, but the best time to photograph the Napali coast, due to the most vibrant and best colors.
Those reefs on the left side are fantastic snorkel spots. If you followed the valley on the right hand side all the way inside the canyon, you will get to this waterfall goo.gl/qAB8iT after an 8 mile hike round-trip.
*Pacific Dreams* is available here for currently 25% off as all other prints until December 14! goo.gl/6qXKCp. Simply use "xmas25" as your promo code during the checkout.
Thanks to Peak Design for providing the leash!
Cheers,

I've just published my first book... about my art.
A comprehensive 76 page retrospective of selected works by painter and assemblage artist Mary Bogdan, featuring 140 works of art, including combine paintings, works on paper, assemblages and limited edition prints. In the best tradition of the works of Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol.
Mary Bogdan is a gleaner… In scrap heaps of abandoned or demolished buildings, alleyways and flea markets, she finds rare treasure. Garbage. Remnants of wood and metal, books, boxes, old paintings, all that have been discarded are interesting to her.
Her work deals with obsolescence. Each “found” object has out-lived its time and has therefore been scrapped. Dead. Mary rescues and assembles them with collected items from her own past. She senses the object’s energy guiding its reincarnation to a higher purpose. Art.
Mary's unique mixed media works tells stories of passion and anger, strength and weakness, love, hate and fear.

"In Nature's pieces still I see
Some error that might mended be;
Something my wish could still remove,
Alter or add; but my fair love
Was fram'd by hands far more divine,
For she hath every beauteous line:
Yet I had been far happier,
Had Nature, that made me, made her.
Then likeness might (that love creates)
Have made her love what now she hates;
Yet I confess I cannot spare
From her just shape the smallest hair;
Nor need I beg from all the store
Of heaven for her one beauty more.
She hath too much divinity for me:
You gods, teach her some more humanity."

The blurred surf of Windansea Beach, amidst a beautiful Pacific sunset. I love how the lines of the surf come together in this shot. This was taken a good 20 minutes after sunset. That's when the sky really begins to light up, and the slow shutter speed really picks out the colors of the scene.
Only a very slight highlight recovery, and sharpening, were done to this shot.

Leaping, Grace and Come to Me. A series of minimalist flower pictures printed on watercolor paper.
The idea for this series began years ago when I decided to make a “black and white” picture. Just that – only black and white. I enjoy the power and results that came from of this simple idea. I may include that first picture, “Bird on a Wire,” in a future post.
I do not find it difficult to translate visual meaning into words but it you enjoy looking at pictures (with no words or explanation) feel free to stop reading now. I you are considering buying these prints, or are interested in my photographic art thought process; the following words might be of interest.
Here is how I see these pictures, my intent, and how I think they work as art. Another way of saying a longer look at minimalism:
The title of each print offers a starting place for interpretation that goes beyond the literal subject of tulips. I take advantage of how easily these pictures can reference gestural and ink artworks. I use these references to ink, painting, calligraphy, gesture and dance to help convey meaning and emotion. Ink painting and calligraphy have a long artistic tradition and these pictures benefit from being seen in relation to that. Gesture is another way of conveying meaning through movement. Gesture can be is related to dance, sign language, mark making and calligraphy. If you define these pictures as “gestural,” they automatically have meaning attached.
Why is this important? I think the viewer is more likely to go farther along their own an imaginative journey if there are art references embedded in the pictures as well as the tulips. The “art” part is further emphasized in the printing process for these photographs. They are printed on watercolor paper with white areas are left as bare paper and the blacks ink is deep, soft and even. The result is this watercolor print causes the viewer to spend a little longer looking. (Maybe even a lot longer if you are the person I made this for.) You fall into the picture because of the deep black and you are pulled out again with the white and the subtle texture and tooth of the paper. This “falling in” effect has a different speed and direction for each of the three tulip pictures. A conscious and deliberate crafting of these pictures gives the viewer an opportunity for a longer look. Gesture communicates quickly and these minimal images also offer something with just a glance.
This set of tulip pictures is part of a larger collection of images called “West Coast Minimalism.” Let me know if you have any requests for subjects to include in this collection.

What the hell happened?
This WAS #1 on EXPLORE for Sept 6, 2005 (see below).... But, recently it just disappeared off the face of the explore page.... What the hell happened? Not even on the page... #1 to nothin'..... What the hell happened?
I'm uploading again a second time, because I'm proud of it, and love to share it with you, and I'm a little wounded... hurts so bad. Could someone have called it "offensive"? What the hell happened?
Blackbird on a Windowsill.
A painting in gouache on CS10 illustration board.
Someone brought me a male blackbird which had been injured by a car and I photographed it on a windowsill in my flat in Priory Street, Carmarthen, South Wales, before releasing it outside. I don't think the bird survived.
I was a 20 year old art student at Dyfed College of Art at the time and the finished painting in gouache (opaque watercolour) formed part of my final diploma show and is heavily influenced by the realist works of American painter Andrew Wyeth and the New Zealand bird painter Raymond Harris Ching. No white paint was used in this painting, all the light areas are the white of the smooth hot-pressed board showing through the light layers of paint.
The painting measures 12 x 14 ins.
It is available as a Limited Edition Print (500 copies only) from Amazon:
