On the Ruinenberg in Potsdam, the deliberately leaning column is also an imitation to integrate antique design elements with artificial ruins. It should only look like this ....
a local bay..... with the geese that visit daily, in the autumn...until the bay freezes over...( usually by New Year's Day ) we enjoy seeing and hearing them!

Theme: Behind Glass
Size: Less than 3x3 inches
The subject behind the glass, in this case a perfume glass bottle is the plastic tube with the perfume drops inside the bottle.
3 light sources...natural back lighting, incandescent yellow light at 2 o'clock and LED torch light at 6 0'clock.
Colours are from small pieces of coloured plastic bags placed behind the bottle.

Group shots are difficult no matter who your subjects are, as these Short-billed dowitchers are demonstrating.
This is my first image posted using my new Z8. While somewhat smaller than the Z9, the Z8 retains the majority of the functionality of its "big brother." This is also the first image I have posted from my new backyard shooting gallery. I'm still able to get creamy backgrounds while getting closer to my subjects without spooking them. Fun!

My sincere thanks to all who spend the time to view, like or comment on my photos. It is much appreciated!

...I especially like to be out and about very early:
sunrise in the fog over the city, of which you can't see anything.
ignoti l'uno all'altro, ed ora uniti
tu m'avresti perduto:
come un ragazzo che si lascia indietro
nella paura d'essere felice.

The blacksaddle filefish, Paraluteres prionurus, is a filefish of the family Monacanthidae. It reaches a length of a maximum 11 cm.
They are found in pairs or in small schools and inhabit reefs across the Indian and Pacific oceans.
Coloration is sandy to grey with distinctive black "saddles" on the back and a yellow tail.
The blacksaddle filefish has evolved to mimic Canthigaster valentini, a highly poisonous pufferfish commonly found where ever P. prionurus is found. The two species have been known to school together. (Wikipedia) Lembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.

In a classic Bessemer scene the infamous "Orange Pair" leads well over a hundred empty ore hoppers north, rocking through the interlocking at RX. At this point the train leaves behind the CTC portion of the Bessemer Sub and enters track warrant territory the rest of the way to Conneaut. The 867 and 905 are, as most know, the last two Bessemer paint regular road engines left on home rails.

A mother’s love is like an everlasting bed of roses, that continues to blossom. A mother’s love bears strength, comfort, healing and warmth. Her beauty is compared to a sunny day that shines upon each rose petal and inspires hope.

While out shooting with my Flickr friends on Friday, we spied this mother with her little girl. With their almost matching hats and the sweet stuffed rabbit the little girl was holding onto tightly, I couldn't resist taking a few shots, but didnt' want to get their faces in it.

Sometimes we're doing good
Sometimes it feels so bad
Sometimes we give up the fight
Sometimes we can't see the light, right
You know how lovers flow
You know how lovers grow
Sometimes we gotta explode
Come on baby, you know how love goes
Well I don't know about you but the novelty of January has well and truly worn off already! It's dark (although we did gain 1 min 23 seconds of daylight today!), it's cold, and I'm trying to kid myself I'm Detox Queen just because I managed a day-and-a-half without eating any beige food. So it was nice to look through these photos that I took a few days ago on a walk around Martlesham Creek in Suffolk. Sunshine, blue skies, a day that makes you feel glad to be alive, and while the sun was up, it could have almost been Summer.
On a more serious note, many people have been posting about their concern for our friends in Australia as the bush fires continue. It's been on my mind a lot, and as another friend said earlier, I don't really have adequate words to express my empathy and my wish for it all to stop. I'm counting my blessings, once again.
Didn't always have the best of times
One would win, both would lose
Tried to make believe the feelings gone
Tried to make her into you
Within my heart I hear the truth
When the honesty shines through
'Cause
Love's like a river
Flowing, flowing forever long
And I will be there
I will, I will be there
Forever right or wrong
So here we are, the same old place
Wonderin' what to do
I'll be better in a safer space
Will I ever be with you
I swear my darlin' this time I'll try
I'll make it up to you
'Cause
Love's like a river
Flowing, flowing forever long
And I will be there
I will, I will be there
Forever right or wrong
Right or wrong
Love's like a river
Flowing forever long
And I will be there
I will, I will be there
Forever right or wrong
Forever right

“Nothing burns like the cold. But only for a while. Then it gets inside you and starts to fill you up, and after a while you don't have the strength to fight it.”
― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
It wasn't actually that cold the day I took this but I am kind of fixated on the cold right now. In fact, I find it too cold to go out to take photos. It is currently -23 C (at 4pm PST) and if you add in the windchill factor, it feels like -32.
