We are experiencing a particularly hot summer this year. No wonder this Elkhorn Fern's outer fronds are dried and discolored.
Elkhorn ferns (also called Staghorn ferns) are ‘epiphyte’, meaning that they grow on tree branches and trunks naturally. They can grow fairly large, although they require at least 10 years to achieve their maximum size.
These plants make two types of fronds. The shield, or sterile fronds, wrap around the tree or rock on which the plant is growing. These shields usually form a basket which collects debris, providing a medium for root growth, and aiding in moisture collection and retention. The fertile, or normal fronds, grow out from the bud, and the spores are borne on these. Some species make fertile fronds much like the antler of a deer. Others are nearly round, or wedge shaped.
Nestled between rock and river, the picturesque village of Essing offers one of the most impressive backdrops in the Altmühl Valley. While in the back there are vertically towering limestone cliffs on which the ruins of Randeck Castle are enthroned, the valley is framed by an oxbow of the Altmühl.
The figure shows Josef Deifl from Essing as an infantryman. He lived from 1790 - 1864 was a simple man and iron worker who wrote down his life in a book. However, not in the usual Sprechdeutsch or Buchdeutsch, but simply as he grew his beak, including spelling and language teaching errors.
When you see how fragile and delicate life can be, all else fades into the background.

I really like these birds!! the stalls and the aisle get a wee bit "dirty" while they are raising their young...the horses get a little dirty too! lol
But they are great bug eaters!!!
Like many other churches in the area, the colonial church of Chinchero was built on ancient Inca ruins like many churches

Snow was falling copious and relentlessly, there was total silence in the forest.
An eerie and, at the same time, beautifully irresistible atmosphere. And the view... Looked like a magic scene!

Another cherry blossom from last year's visit to TV Asahi Cherry Blossom Alley at the Mauerweg between Berlin and Teltow. This year's cherry blossom has only just begun because we're having a fairly cold spring (with the exception of this weekend, but the cold will return tomorrow), and in a small street around the corner that is lined with lovely cherry trees, the blossoms are only just about to fully open.
I've photographed this blossom with the GRIII. The 28mm focal length GR lens is very sharp and it's also an amazingly good close-up lens, but at f2.8 as the widest-open aperture, it can be tricky to get a nice background blur. Here, the blossom was popping out amidst many other blossoms, so the backdrop was very busy and distracting. Since I liked how the blossom itself had turned out (apart from the fact that there's a good amount of blur right at the center – Sharpen AI dealt with that in a satisfying enough way so it's pleasant to look at, I think), I had to do something about the background. I didn't simply want to blur it out in LR or even completely remove it in PS because I liked the springy-fresh colours of the background, so I created two layers in PS, one with the blossom only, the other with the complete image, and opened the latter in Analog Efex where began to play around with the Zoom filter and the Dust and Scratches filter palette. As finishing touches I added the thin image border and hit the Primary Color sliders in LR. I hope you like this candy-coloured cherry blossom slider :)
Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone!
Like North Falls further upstream, Middle North Falls has certain characteristics which one could argue give it an edge when comparing it to the park's main attraction, South Falls. Despite being considerably shorter, Middle North Falls is a markedly amorphous waterfall which changes physical shape in a very dramatic way as the volume of water in North Silver Creek changes. The 106 foot tall falls take the form of a narrow column of water during the summer months, funneled to perhaps 5 feet wide at most by a narrow runnel in the bedrock. With greater stream flow in the winter and spring months however, North Silver Creek sheets out across the 60-foot wide creek bed and turns the falls into a broad curtain of water, with part of the falls impacting on a twisting chute of basalt which then slides to join the more volumnous half of the creek in the plunge pool.
Middle North Falls is one of four waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park which features a trail which traverses behind the falling water. Unlike the other three, the trail leading behind Middle North Falls is a dead-end, constructed purely to allow access to additional views of the falls.

A window in my room at the hotel "Moscow", the city of Uglich.
Through this window came a pleasant coolness from the Volga River. A gentle curtain developed in the wind like a sail :)

Thank you very much for your kind comments and visit, much appreciated!
Like a vampire you didn't invite
Suddenly, a change stifles the air
Sucking away all your blood and energy
Whispering in your ear
"You aren't going to survive this one, dear"
Filling you with unabated darkness
Which is really strange because
Just two days ago
You were feeling so much better.
