Using a pizza box is a great way to secure hardware for painting while protecting the threads. A toothpick jammed in does the same thing for washers.

I can now switch songs by stretching a finger and hitting the control disc. I don't even have to take my hands off the wheel.

A simple fix for the vulnerability below. Unlike their proposed fix of a zip tie, this still allows the emergency release to be pulled (with almost no increase in effort). Does it belong on ThereIFixedIt.com? Maybe. But it took 2 seconds, and works without interfering with safety... lifehacker.com/5549366/how-to-unlock-your-garage-door-fro...

I used this graphic as an illustration for the Lifehacker feature on Unique Photo Gift Ideas. The picture is of my parents in Hawaii.

Caesar Stone's Aurora Snow should match the white metal nicely and it gives plenty of room.

Inspired by lifehacker.com/5286110/make-a-quick-and-dirty-sun-visor-t... I slipped my iPhone into a strap on my visor and drove for a little bit. It's a bit... shaky. The combination of how the photo sensor is read with the shaking creates an amusing visual effect

I recorded more than 90 seconds, but apparently Flickr autocrops down. Perhaps I'll actually get some bands like the LH article talks about and do a longer recording and speed it up to mimic the video as presented there, see if the speedup helps with the shake.

I broke my own rule about dog-earring pages to keep track of all the useful "lifehacks" in this book. I highly recommend this book (Lifehacker by Gina Trapani).

It's my first try-out screenshot. Everything is simple. I really appreciate Lifehacker team for everything I got. And respect to sharkhead187 for inspiration!

A little trick I used to unclutter my desktop, based on this gem from Lifehacker.

Setup for photo mode with the dividers in and the laptop flap closed

Back at home i started siliconing closed cell foam and felt feet on the cable anchors and speaker stands. The two fatter cans in the centre are Tenax's sealing and colour enhancing products.

cable mess, lifehacker, some help please? (the tv has speakers too, i need to by a Y-cable)

To keep the cables organized and off the ground i'm going to zip tie them to these. To ensure there is no vibration or movement they get no-slip carpet backer attached using silicone.

(fixed from earlier to show menubar and reflect how i use spaces)

This is my B&W desktop showing Windows XP running in VirtualBox for OS X.

I use two spaces in order to run the Windows desktop fullscreen. I use various sets of black icons and custom icons for my dock.

Programs Pictured:

OS X Dock:

Safari, Mail, Adium (HUD skin), Addy book, iCal, OmniFocus, Textedit, iReadFast, Word, iTunes, Transmission, TED, VirtualBox

Menubar:

Adium, DropBox, Skitch, Quicksilver, Alarm Clock 2, RescueTime, Hazel, EverNote, smcFanControl, PeerGuardian, Little Snitch, iStat Menus.

Windows:

This is a great setup for an older Macbook Pro.

So this computer I was given, the one I am planning on making a kickass Ubuntu machine, didn't come with a hard drive. That's fine, I figured I would put in this extra one I had...except the fools that took it out also took out all of the mounting hardware. And since it is a small-footprint PC, everything is proprietary and weird...laptop parts are too small and PC parts are too big. None of the mounting hardware I had for regular desktop PCs would work.

The rubberband solution seems to work okay, though.

Update Feb. 2008: Rubberbands still holding up just fine.

Terra had some camera difficulties but Alaina got this fun photo at the Rave awards.

This is sort of a half-joking response to this screenshot.

A work in progress.

I like how striking it is but I need to find a better way of displaying the track information...

All the elements are the same as my previous screenshot, I've just removed the wallpaper and re-jigged the rest of it is all.

If you want to see a proper screenshot, head over here to see it full resolution.

On one of the RC outlets is this useless feature.

bialetti 2 cup Brikka.

can't believe i had to come to Seoul to discover this! have used their Mokas forever but this one has a built-in valve, so it kinda makes an espresso with a burst of pressure (makes a scary whooshing sound!). it's great cos u know when it's done, cos i've melted a Moka or two in my time, argh!

the key thing is that it produces crema! yay!

New desktop configuration, one keyboard per hand! FTW!! Extremely comfortable after getting used to. (Obviously, only the appropriate halves of the keyboards are in use; provides good redundancy, if other breaks.. :)

Actually, I think this kind of shoulder-wide posture might even help reduce tensions. Also, this gives more freedom of movement for upper body, which feels very nice when working with multiple displays (the only way to work, anyway).

Definitely recommend!

As a result of the rotation of months and days in a calendar year, you can use calendars from past years. Spice up your wall with a little vintage fun.

Paul, over at the financial blog WiseBread, was skimming over a magazine when he noticed a tiny little box with an interesting tip in it. There are only 14 combination—including leap years—of months and days on the Gregorian calendar. Calculating the matching years would be an arduous task, fortunately the web site Time & Date ... Lessons learned from Proof-of-Concept setup:

- Setup works in principle

- Setup is pretty noisy as it is, needs some soundproofing, rubber washers and stuff

- Motherboard needs to be further in the back, as with more gfx-cards and monitors I will need to use DVI to VGA connectors - too long to close the door

- there is still plenty of room , for example for additional drives, usb-drives or a card reader

- expect a (comparatably) uncluttered, but boring finish

forgot to take a picture of the install process (Win7). however, worked like a charm

My new, clean desktop setup is almost done

Haven't posted a desktop screen shot in a while... and for once, my OS X desktop is the less interesting one. This is, in fact, Windows XP running via Parallels... though it is NOT, in fact, an original idea (I pretty much stole it right down to the icon and wallpaper choices).

At least I'm no longer staring at the plasticky default theme.

Two USB hubs are silicone'd to the bottom of the desk. This handles device charging and a slew of peripherals.

I started with a self etching primer (grey), and lastly finishing with two coats of the white high build primer you see here.

Since the top of the desk is on a 5 degree rake I test fit granite and secured with a rope. I left about a half inch of slack and as long as it didn't disappear over night it would work.
