I hope you get to spend your day in whatever way suits you today, though that is not always possible. But if there's anyone who knows that better than a mother, I don't know who it would be. Mothers know that life is about making do with what you have.. about making lemonade out of lemons.. about snatching the good out of a bad day, and making everyone around them the better for it. They are the ones who teach us all the most important life lessons, so if today isn't your perfect imagined "Mother's Day" - just remember what your mother would have told you.. And if it is - remember what your mother would have told you about that too...

That's one way to describe Zoe, and "tough as an old boot" is another. Even though she's 12 years old, and even though the vet had to practically stand on her for leverage to get her canine tooth out and bent his instrument in the process, even though she felt like she'd been hit by a bus yesterday and all last night and she and her poor old mum (me) got no sleep as a result, she felt obliged to shake it off this morning, put it all behind her, and drag herself out for a walk with us. There was absolutely no way Abby and I were getting out the door without her, sore jaw and all. After all, there were squirrels that needed telling off, blue jays that needed chasing (at half speed) and bushes that needed sniffing. Zoe decided that yep, that had hurt and it sucked, but she'd whimpered enough, and there were things to do, and people to see. I think I'll take a lesson from that.
But she's still putting on an extra sad face when I walk close to the bag of snausages, hoping for an extra. And it works...every time.

This is a colored pencil (blended with Gamsol) sketch of a concept @tamaralevitt of @calm spoke of in a guided meditation. The concept is that we can carry our calm with us if we learn certain meditation lessons. She's compared emotions to the ocean/sea before - how, above, the water can be turbulent and choppy, but if we submerge and not get caught up at the surface, we can find the calmness below which is always there.
I found that concept to be so helpful and loved it so much, I wanted to illustrate it. :)
