The Timna Valley is located in southern Israel. The area is rich in copper ore and has been mined since the 5th millennium BCE. There is controversy whether the mines where active during the Kingdom of Israel and the biblical King Solomon.
A large section of the valley, containing ancient remnants of copper mining and ancient worship, is encompassed in a recreation park.
In life, you just never know.
When my mother-in-law went into memory care during Fall 2016, we adopted her cat named Emmy. Since we already had an Emmy of our own that was a black cat, our new kitty became Gray Emmy. She was a great addition to the family - very affectionate and quiet. After my mother in law passed on in April 2017, Gray Emmy was a tangible reminder of her legacy to us.
I had no idea when I snapped this photo of Gray Emmy that it would become a very poignant image. Exactly two weeks after this photo was taken, we lost Gray Emmy. After a day of lethargy, we took her to the vet when she was laboring to breathe. Upon examination, they found that Grey Emmy had a massive tumor that was constricting her cardiac function. She passed away not long after she arrived at the vet's office.
It was quite a shock for us. Since my wife's late father picked out Gray Emmy at the shelter, we really are feeling her loss. Animals never lose their innocence, and so their passing hits very hard.

DWAN LIGHT SANCTUARY
The Dwan Light Sanctuary (DLS) was designed by Virginia Dwan (conceptualizer and funder), Charles Ross (solar spectrum artist), and Laban Wingert (planner-architect) and opened on October 25, 1996.
The DLS serves the UWC-USA campus and the public as a refuge from the pace, conflicts, and anxieties of daily living. The site was selected to capitalize upon the spectacular northern New Mexico light. The orientation and geometry of the building are derived from its alignment to the sun, moon, and stars. Projecting from a circular core are two apses each containing six large prisms mounted in sloping windows to capture light rays from sunrise to sunset.
Interacting with spectrums cast from the windows are spectrums from twelve prisms mounted in the roof that form broad ribbons of pure color. These ribbons move with the revolving of the earth. Lunar spectrum can be seen on full moon nights.
A third apse, facing north, houses a window which frames trees and sky during the day and the North Star at night. A line parallel to the axis of the earth goes from the center of the floor through the center of the North Star window.
The circular part of the building is 36 feet in diameter and reaches 23 feet in height. The floor dimensions represent solar and lunar proportions.
