Christina's activity for the Tweens and Young Adults for Wednesday was all about Mars! What is Mars like? What could live there? The kids got a chance to create their own Mars creature too!

The library was honored to have astronaut and Friendswood resident Jerry Ross speak to a full house yesterday evening at the Friendswood Public Library. Jerry provided fascinating information regarding his wonderful new book Spacewalker: My Journey in Space and Faith as NASA’s Recording Setting Frequent Flyer. Using PowerPoint and narrating his own video footage Jerry gave audience members a vivid look into the world of astronauts and their work with the Space Shuttle and Space Station. Jerry also took time to answer numerous audience questions.
One of the 6 libraries endowed by Carnegie in the Caribbean. Opened in 1916 and looking on course to celebrate its centenary soon: the library was open and extremely busy when we visited. It's in the centre of town on Library corner - where about 7 roads meet.

"The library is unusual in that it uses a custom system of organization which is designed to facilitate and emphasize browsing. For example the section on "Suburbia" is next to the section on "Domestic Environments" then "Architecture" which becomes "Graphic Design" which in turn leads to "Typography" and "Fine Arts" and then "Advertising" and "Sales". There is no Dewey Decimal system or card catalog."

The Horn Library project consists of three distinct, but integrated pillars for study, academic support, and social interaction and collaboration. The project is envisioned to provide an improved and expanded state-of-the-art study space for students, a centralized academic support center designed around student needs, and additional classroom and faculty office space. The project also includes a new and expanded Cutler Center in a prominent location that highlights the study of finance and investment for current and prospective students, and an update of the building systems, including mechanical systems to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
The oldest of the three United States Library of Congress buildings, the Thomas Jefferson Building was built in 1890-97. It is known for its elaborately decorated facade and interior, designed by John L. Smithmeyer who was replaced by his assistant, Paul J. Pelz, who was succeeded by Edward Pearce Casey.[1] More than forty American painters and sculptors produced commissioned works of art.
