Annual date with wings and salad in Cranberry Township, PA. We first heard about this place from the front desk @residenceinn next door and we've been coming back for the last 3 years on our way South. The 5 categories of #OntarioFinestMeat we judged today @ontariomeatpoultry. 53 samples of meat sourced from Ontario farmers and processed by Ontario Independent Meat Producers. Even though we only had enough to judge each meat product, it was still a LOT of meat. We judged bacon, poultry Deli meat, wieners, specialty sausages, boneless ham, and finally sausages - dry and semi-dry. It's incredible the range of products and differences each producer creates. Serviceberries (aka Saskatoon berries) fresh from the tree! I'm delighted to be home just add they are ripening this year (and to find a tree that hasn't grown too high to pick) These ones, the Canada Serviceberry, do turn darker but not the deep purple of other varieties, more a dark wine colour. These will make for perfect serviceberry pancakes for breakfast, which I enjoy much more than blueberry pancakes in party because they are less wet so the pancake cooks properly. But also the flavour is like a combination blueberry and cherry. Living up to its name this Brutti ma Buoni is “ugly but good”. But it is the closest I have come to getting these Italian hazelnut meringue cookies right. (And I’m sure to devour them anyway.) I’ve been chasing the proper name and recipe for these cookies for a couple of years! I don’t think they are even close to perfect yet - double cook? Oven temp? I’m fighting a cold, yes on top of the concussion and everything else, so imagine my joy when I found dad’s stash of the “Xmas in a Jar” I sent him. Someone prefers it when we don’t eat at our desks. And when we get a little distracted. Yesterday, she was in stealth mode.
