The camp I help teach with LEGO Master Mel Brown is more than about putting bricks together. We’re here to serve underprivileged children who don’t have access to a ton of bricks. With just 1 or 2 small boxes of bricks we’ve been able to demonstrate endless possibilities. We teach them how different parts have different functions, but we go further to teach life skills, like getting organized, thinking outside the box, perseverance, and other tips along the way.
The topic for this week’s lesson was landscaping. The kids learned about symmetry vs asymmetry, geometric vs organic shapes, foreground and background, composition, and some fundamental LEGO layering and shaping. The kids did sooo great to keep up with an abundance of information and building in a 1 hr timeframe! Lots of smiles and thumbs up. Really makes my week.

I decided to do a layout about the mistakes I made in my first marriage and how much happier my second marriage is now. In the process I made a mistake on the layout that I had to fix too. I cut the light blue floral patterned paper way too small and then had to figure out how to use it since I didn't have another piece. I actually love the result even more than the original layout that I had planned.
Journaling: "Divorce is not something that I would wish on anybody, but I wouldnn't be the person I am today without it. Lots of classes, counseling and groups to help me figure out my issues & what I needed to do to heal them, to finally grow up. I don't look at conflict or communication the same way I used to (thank goodness). Honestly, revealing my real self, standing up for what I want & believe. It's so revealing to be known especially by the person you are married to. These are the important lessons that i learned because of a divorce. And now I am so very blessed to have found a person who's done the hard, healing work too. Dave and I don't always agree, but we're two different people and that 's okay. I've learned that we're we're okay & I'm so glad that he's my partner now".

This turned out to be a photographing lesson from a person who it seems might never have used a camera. I was at my friend's house and trying to shoot this plantain leaf minus the maiz in picture. His sister spotted me and asked me what am I doing without a subject to shoot, and just put this maiz and told "now, you shoot this". It kind of shook me a bit. all of a sudden, the whole image changed and I learnt a good lesson about a Subject, a Background and a Composition. I shot it the way she laid it. Is this a very good image? Don't know. But it is better than most of my images. Thanks Remachechi.

Once again I post some photos about a concentration camp. They're not intending to be a statement of "Look, I went there!", but a reminder that such places exist because human beings made them. And, what's more frightnening, they made them only 70 years ago. We take for granted that it all belongs to the past, and then there's Rwanda... there's Bosnia... there are countries such as North Korea... and that's the world we live in. It's all up to us, to each one of us, to try and make a difference. To make a difference when we vote, when we smile and greet other people, no matter their skin colour, religious beliefs, sexual orientation... when we don't impose our beliefs, when we don't step into others peoples freedom, when we dispute our differences by talking and not by fighting, when we make it possible for everyone to have access to a good education, when we really respect each other...
Auschwitz was worst then Dachau. Fear and horror spreads from the apparently harmless houses that line across the streets. You walk along the small groups that wonder from house to house and the more you walk, the more it gets through your skin, like a sting that keeps getting deeper and deeper. And then you realize that it's a terrible though to think that no matter how bad you imagine life was as it was there, you aren't even close to the real picture. No matter how much you tremble when you see tens of suitcases, toothbrushes, shoes and millions of human hair, you'll never get even close to feel the horror that people just like us had to face.

The first evening we buried the new Bobcat in the mud while building the road up the hill. This was a 5 hour mistake that really left me wondering if I was making the right decision to build in such a remote location. I will still never forget this night because while trying to dig the bobcat we were fighting off mosquitos like we never have ever since, while also dealing with an incoming tide that could have potentially buried the bobcat, on day one of the trip. I don't believe Adam ever climbed back into the bobcat ever again.
Mining and geology students underground on a South Dakoto School of Mines field trip from a while ago. The mine shiftboss should be easy to spot = no zootsuit plus cool decals festooning his hardhat. Sandstone in the tunnel walls is soft enough to scratch. 400 feet (?) underground in a uranium mine at Grants, New Mexico.
