My brother gave my daughter a lesson in how to make Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing. She took notes but after he left she said it will be hard to replicate because he doesn't use any actual measurements. So it will be her challenge!

Zinger of the day: Nicole (who is five -- you can see in the corner of the shot) and I had the following dialog:
Nicole: "What is that?" (indicating the cute tutu bathing suit Mackenzie has on)
Me: "It's a tutu - it's a ballerina costume."
Nicole: "Why is she wearing it?"
Me: "Because it's cute."
Nicole: "But why would she wear it - ballerinas don't go in swimming with their clothes on."
Me: "Hm..good point. We should probably take it off then."

Amanda has really taken to swimming lessons this time around! We took her first lessons when she was 7 months old, and she spent much of the time yelling at me. We took another set when she was around 16 months old, and they went OK; however, she never really got the hang of blowing bubbles and would open her mouth and breathe in every time I tried to submerge her (even when I tried the blowing in the face trick).
However, third time seems to be the charm! She has learned to blow bubbles now, so we figured she'd like the lessons better and we were right! When she sees the pool it's all we can do to keep her from jumping in with all her clothes on. Once we're in our "babing suits" she doesn't want to wait for the teacher. We're supposed to sit the kids on the edge of the pool and keep a hand on their thigh while we jump in, then pull them in after us. Ya right - at our third lesson she tried to jump in at the same time as me! I thought the teacher was going to have a heart attack. That's my girl...rebelling already!
Moments like this is when my heart, which is split in two now, can find his way to be complete again. My day wasn't perfect until I went to teach to my favorite and smart boy.. It just took an hour to made my day full of the happiness I needed. I think this lesson and a lot of things I'm doing right now, are the ones that are going to fill my gaps, my emptyness. I cannot pretend that it doesn't hurt, but oblivion and hate will make this every day easier and less painful than before. I just want peace inside, to me and to my heart, even though when it means loneliness.
We were standing near the dinner table. It was summer, and the day had just begun.
He simply told me to look at my thumb, saying, “Now look closely at your fingernail.”
“Uh, Huh” I responded.
“Now, your fingernail is made up of many different layers. Now, Imagine in between each of those layers is space, and within that space contains an infinite amount of universes. Universes, just like ours. Can you imagine that?”
As I sat there, wide eyed, staring at my thumb, imagining infinite space, I said, “Yes, I can imagine that.” then I fell into a deep silence.
My father smirked and walked away.
