Measuring a length of 1,141 feet and 101 feet at its highest, the bridge is the 2nd longest of the Valley viaducts spanning the floor of the Shenandoah. The current structure #631 replaced its predecessor at the same location in 1918. US Route 340 parallels the structure and in 2012 was realigned closer to the bridge eliminating a very scenic open field location.
Red-Bellied Woodpecker (male).
10 inches in length. Barred black and white above, pale buff below and on face. Sexes similar except that male has red crown and nape while female has red nape only. Reddish patch on lower abdomen seldom visible in the field.
Its habitat includes open and swampy woodlands. It also comes into parks during migration and feeders in winter.
It breeds from South Dakota, Great Lakes and southern New England south to the Gulf Coast and Florida. Northern most birds sometimes migrate south for the winter.

We are back in Brazil!
From Wiki: With a total length of approximately 20 cm (8 in), it is among the largest species of wrens. Unlike most other wrens, it is typically found from mid-levels to canopy height. Despite its size, it is relatively inconspicuous, and usually revealed only by its loud, complex voice, which is highly characteristic. It feeds primarily on insects, but will also take vegetable matter and small invertebrates. Typically forages in pairs or small groups. The paler, greyer and much more uniform C. t. unicolor is found in the drier and more open wooded habitats in the Pantanal of Brazil, eastern Bolivia, Paraguay and far northern Argentina (where range is expanding).
This is the Confederation Bridge, which connects Prince Edward Island to the rest of Canada (via New Brunswick). It's 13 km long. I still don't think it's the longest bridge in the world though. Any bridge geeks out there know which one is?

National Trust Properties
Waddesdon Manor, Aylesbury, HP18 0LH, Buckinghamshire
Waddesdon Manor
Built between 1874 – 1889 in the Neo-renaissance style for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. Waddesdon Manor stayed within the family until 1957.
When the last owner died (James de Rothschild), it was passed over to the National Trust, the Manor and its contents and is now managed by the Rothschild Foundation.
Ferdinand de Rothschild wanted a beautiful building and had in mind a chateau familiar with those built in the Loire Valley. He chose the French architect Gabriel-Hippolyte Destailleur to do the work. Destailleur was already familiar with the type of work, as he had overseen many projects, including the Chateau de Mouchy. He also worked for another member of the De Rothschild family, namely Baron Albert de Rothschild on his Palais Rothschild in Vienna.
The wine cellars are interesting in that it contains the best of 15,000 bottles, some over 150 years old and come from the Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Mouton Rothschild estates. It is the largest collection in the world of Rothschild wines, it also has some very important labels created by artists such as Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol.
The works of art inside the house of the very best quality, artists such as, Gainsborough, Reynolds, Boucher, Cuyp, Van Dyck, Titan and many others. Sevres ceramics, Beauvais Tapestries, first quality English Silver, carpets, books the list unending.
the French Landscape Gardiner Elie Laine. Extensive levelling of the hill was carried out, the Gardens and parks were laid out and an attempt was made to grow full length trees using chloroform to decrease the shock of moving the trees and planting them, however there are many trees in the parks and gardens that were successfully planted. Trees such as Yews, cedar, redwoods and other conifers, chestnuts, limes and maples are all successfully well bedded in.
During the reign of James de Rothschild the gardens were not the most spectacular however from the 1990’s a more up to date, using computer software for many of the colour combinations and in the gardens are many lovely statues by such sculptors as, Italian Sculptors Giuliano Mozani and Filippo Parodi, French sculptor, Jean Raon, to name but a few.
In my opinion, a great House and Garden to visit, teas and a scone well worth the wait.
Finally there have been many films made there. Here are a few examples:
Never Say Never Again
Carry On “Don’t Lose Your Head”
Ladies in Lavender
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
In 2018 there were approx. 465,000 visitors to the Manor, and was the largest visitor attraction anywhere in all of the National Trust Properties.
It was a trip trying to get a shot of this Golden crown Kinglet (Scientific name: Regulus satrapa). It was constantly under dark areas with fleeting appearances. It's not my dream shot with all that noise from auto ISO at 6400 but for this specie I will make an exception🙏😁

How big is a golden-crowned kinglet?
8 to 11 cm. Its length, at 8 to 11 cm (3.1 to 4.3 in), is probably the shortest of any American passerine. However, its weight, which averages around 5.9 g (0.21 oz), with a range of 4 to 7.8 g (0.14 to 0.28 oz), is marginally more on average than the American bushtit and black-tailed gnatcatcher.
..
..
The kinglet is migratory, and its range extends from northwest Canada and Alaska south to Mexico. Its breeding habitat is spruce-fir forests in the northern and mountainous regions of the United States and Canada.

Joel Tjintjelaar taught me the three most important components to B&W architecture photography is: light, shadows, and structure. At the time of this shoot I failed to bring my best lens and the post processing was a labor of love and a nightmare. Without the lens, technique to capture the exacting detail that Santiago Calatrava demands with his architecture was an exciting, formidable, demanding challenge to showcase the exacting structure in conjunction with light and shadow. I will be following up with Series ll,lll, and lV shortly.
To all my family & friends wishing you a healthy, successful & safe New Year.

Upper Antelope Canyon, about 200m in length, is a slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon includes two separate, scenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as "Upper Antelope Canyon" or "The Crack" Antelope Canyon "or" The Corkscrew ". The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means 'the place where water runs through rocks'. Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistazí (called "Hasdestwazi" by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or 'spiral rock arches'. Both are in the LeChee Chapter of the Navajo Nation.
Antelope Canyon's winding walls were carved by fast flowing flash flood waters. The floods carried abrasive sand, rocks logs and other debris picked up by the sudden torrents. Over millenia, these floods sculpted natural corridors through the soft sandstone. (sourced from internet)

Good morning everyone and Happy Furry Friday...which is just for today. As for something furry, this little Eastern Chipmunk (Tamias striatus) is about as small as furry things get around here at 4 - 6 inches (10 - 15 cm) in length (excluding the tail) and weighing about 3 ounces (130 grams). One could easily fit in your hand.
This one made an appearance on the back walkway while I was attempting to get some photos of hummingbirds feeding at a Lantana plant. Of which I failed miserably.
As for the full cheek pouches, they're most likely stuffed with Black Oil Sunflower seeds, which I often see it gathering from under a feeder nearby where this pic was taken.
I posted one other pic of this same Chipmunk in the comment section so don't forget to click on "view previous comments" if you don't see the additional photo. Even better, scroll to it by clicking on the arrow thingy to the right of the above pic where you'll also find some text describing this cute little critter.
Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you have a truly great day and weekend.

Sandhill Crane.
Between 34 to 48 inches in length with a wingspan of nearly 7 feet. They are very tall with a long neck and long legs. Largely gray with a red forehead. Juveniles are browner and have no red on head. Their plumage often appears a rusty color because of iron stains from water of ponds or marshes.
They inhabit large freshwater marshes, prairie ponds and marshy tundra. They are also on prairies and grain fields during migration and in winter.
They range from Siberia and Alaska to the Hudson Bay and south into western Ontario. There are isolated populations in: the Rocky Mountains, the northern prairies, the Great Lakes, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida. They winter in California's Central Valley and across the southern states from Arizona to Florida.

Taken with 100-400mm mk2 through one way glass window. I was well impressed with this lens which I bought for this trip. Sharp and very quick to focus, definitely a winner. Mark Molloy bought a Nikon 200-500mm which also proved to be a winner, zooms are a must for some subjects, when eagles open their wings at 12 metres distance 200mm is a must !!

Some of you a bit west, say in Texas and Oklahoma, may be used to seeing scissor-tailed flycatchers. For Indiana, they are a rare visitor--rarer still to find one nesting! This bird is about 20 minutes from my home, but birders from all over the state have come to see it. Yesterday it would leave the nest for varying lengths of time, then return to and stay in the nest (nest not in photo). There have been sightings of a male, but no documentary photos. This photo was shot at quite a distance, hand held, and highly cropped.

IRENE (MMSI: 235085663) is a Sailing Vessel and is sailing under the flag of United Kingdom. Her length overall (LOA) is 34 meters and her width is 6 meters.
On 29 May 1907 Irene was launched at the Bridgwater yard of F J Carver & Sons, who had started building her on their own account. Whilst on the stocks she was sold to Colthurst Symons, a local brick and tile manufacturer, and was named after his daughter, Irene. Her hull was framed in oak and planked with pitch pine; the keel and garboard strake were of elm and the keelson of greenheart. Galvanised black iron was used to fasten her throughout. The top strakes and the covering board (the wide timber at the edge of the deck) were of greenheart and chestnut, to help withstand rough handling at the quayside.
Irene loaded her first cargo on 17 June 1907, less than three weeks after her launch, and carried it from Bridgwater to Penzance. Regular cargoes of bricks and tiles from her owners’ works provided her main trade. Return cargoes were always sought, and included corn, flour, cattle feed, stone, coal, scrap iron, and even live pigs. Sometimes she was away from her home port for several months, taking in a number of ports of call. Cargo could be taken aboard and discharged using a loading gaff which was rigged to the mainmast. Although her main work was around the West Country, Irene often ventured along the south coast to London, across to Rotterdam, north to the Clyde, or across the Irish Sea to Ireland.
In 1965 she was found abandoned in the Hamble and was bought by the current owner, Leslie Morrish who took her to the Thames. Dr Morrish restored her ketch rig and lived aboard with his family. In 1980 they sailed her to Bristol for a major refit, which included major re-planking, new keel, decks, masts and bowsprit, and a new whaleback constructed behind her wheel. Twin second-hand Gardner diesels were installed, which proved much more reliable than the previous and troublesome Elwe engine. The refit was completed at Gloucester and she left there in June 1982.
Irene embarked on a new phase, as a preservation society was formed to conserve and sail her. In 1998 she sailed to the Caribbean and was based there as a charter vessel, winning the Concourse d’Elegance at Antigua Classics 2003. Two weeks later, on 23 May 2003, she was gutted by a fire, of unknown cause, which blazed for eight hours before she sank. She became an insurance write-off, but her undaunted owners decided that they would rebuild her, in what became an epic process spanning seven years. Irene was raised and a temporary covering deck was built over the charred remains of the hull. She left St Maartens in late July 2003 in tow of the sailing schooner Avontuur, to be rebuilt in Cornwall. The bottom part of the hull was largely undamaged and work commenced on rebuilding the upper structure of the hull, deck, interior and rig. Twin reconditioned Gardner engines were installed.
On 22nd April 2009 Irene sailed again for the first time in six years, with new sails made by James Lawrence, of Brightlingsea. She attended festivals in Bristol and Whitehaven in summer 2009. Further work continued in 2010 to complete the accommodation to the standard required for chartering. In April 2011 she embarked on a full sailing season from her Bristol base.

The Alzette a river with a length of 45 miles in France and Luxembourg. It is a right tributary of the Sauer (a tributary to the Moselle), and ultimately to the Rhine.
The rocky cliffs above the Alzette in Luxembourg are called 'Bock'. This name was given to the Casemates du Bock; a honeycomb of tunnels colloquially named 'Paula', which runs under the ruins of the Fortress of Luxembourg. It protected Luxembourg City for centuries.
