1120mm is not the ideal focal length when the Great Crested Grebe comes close. At least I got a bit more head detail than normal - they do have the most amazing ruby red eyes - the pupil has a yellow fringe like the fingers of a marigold rubber glove.

The house sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a bird of the sparrow family Passeridae, found in most parts of the world. It is a small bird that has a typical length of 16 cm (6.3 in) and a mass of 24–39.5 g (0.85–1.39 oz). Females and young birds are coloured pale brown and grey, and males have brighter black, white, and brown markings. One of about 25 species in the genus Passer, the house sparrow is native to most of Europe, the Mediterranean Basin, and a large part of Asia. Its intentional or accidental introductions to many regions, including parts of Australasia, Africa, and the Americas, make it the most widely distributed wild bird.
The house sparrow is strongly associated with human habitation, and can live in urban or rural settings. Though found in widely varied habitats and climates, it typically avoids extensive woodlands, grasslands, polar regions, and hot, dry deserts far away from human development. For sustenance, the house sparrow routinely feeds at home and public bird feeding stations, but naturally feeds on the seeds of grains, flowering plants and weeds. However, it is an opportunistic, omnivorous eater, and commonly catches insects, their larvae, caterpillars, invertebrates and many other natural foods.
Because of its numbers, ubiquity, and association with human settlements, the house sparrow is culturally prominent. It is extensively, and usually unsuccessfully, persecuted as an agricultural pest. It has also often been kept as a pet, as well as being a food item and a symbol of lust, sexual potency, commonness, and vulgarity. Though it is widespread and abundant, its numbers have declined in some areas. The animal's conservation status is listed as least concern on the IUCN Red List.

No matter the lengths to which mankind stretches its hand to wound and destroy, the quiet strength of the divine endures. In the midst of suffering and decay, when all seems lost, God always finds a way to remind the world of His intrinsic grace. Delicate and yet resolute, the smallest flowers stand as a testament to this enduring truth; no matter how deep the darkness, light will always return. It often comes in the simplest of forms, to offer hope for the future and renewal for the soul.

Kamias (Averrhoa bilimbi) is a mall tree growing 5 to 12 meters high. Leaves are pinnate, 20-60 cm long, with hairy rachis and leaflets. Leaflets are opposite, 10 to 17 pairs, oblong, 5 to 10 cm in length. Flowers, about 1.5 cm long, and slightly fragrant. Fruit, green and edible, about 4 cm long, subcylindric with 5 obscure, broad, rounded, longitudinal lobes.
In Malaysia, it is called belimbing asam; in Indonesia, it is belimbing besu; in Thailand, it is taling pling, or kaling pring. To the French it is carambolier bilimbi, or cornichon des Indes. Filipinos generally call it kamias but there are about a dozen other native names.
Origin and Distribution – Perhaps a native of the Moluccas, the bilimbi is cultivated throughout Indonesia; is cultivated and semi-wild everywhere in the Philippines; is much grown in Ceylon and Burma. It is very common in Thailand, Malaya and Singapore; frequent in gardens across the plains of India, and has run wild in all the warmest areas of that country.
Varieties – Kamias are all much the same wherever they are grown, but P.J. Wester reported that a form with sweet fruits had been discovered in the Philippines.
Climate – Kamias is a tropical species, it needs protection from cold and wind. Ideally, rainfall should be rather evenly distributed throughout most of the year but there should be a 2- to 3-month dry season. The tree makes slow growth in shady or semi-shady situations. It should be in full sun.
Soil – While kamias does best in rich, moist, but well-drained soil, it grows and fruits quite well on sand or limestone.
Propagation – Most efforts at grafting and budding have not been rewarding, though Wester had success in shield-budding, utilizing non-petioled, ripe, brown budwood cut 1 1/2 to 2 in (3.8-5 cm) long. Air-layering has been practiced in Indonesia for many years. However, the tree is more widely grown from seed. Kamias trees are vigorous and receive no special horticultural attention. It has been suggested that they would respond well to whatever cultural treatment.
Harvesting and Keeping Quality – The fruits are picked by hand, singly or in clusters. They need gentle handling because of the thin skin. They cannot be kept on hand for more than a few days.
Parts utilized – Whole plant.
Properties – Considered antibacterial, astringent, antiscorbutic, febrifuge, antidiabetic, stomachic, refrigerant.
Season, Harvesting and Keeping Quality – The tree begins to flower about February and then blooms
Length overall (LOA) is 200 meters and her width is 32 meters.

Mute Swan.
58 to 60 inches in length with a wingspan of just under 8 feet. The adults are all white with an orange bill with a black knob at the base. The young birds are the same but dingy gray-brown becoming whiter with age. The Mute Swan holds its neck in a feaceful curve while native swans hold their necks straight up.
They inhabit ponds, rivers, coastal lagoons and bays.
They are not native to North America and were introducted from Europe into the United States. They are most commonly found in southern New England through southeastern New York and into New Jersey and Maryland. There is also a locally established population in Michigan.

Measuring a length of 1,141 feet and 101 feet at its highest, the bridge is the 2nd longest of the Valley viaducts spanning the floor of the Shenandoah. The current structure #631 replaced its predecessor at the same location in 1918. US Route 340 parallels the structure and in 2012 was realigned closer to the bridge eliminating a very scenic open field location.
This is the Confederation Bridge, which connects Prince Edward Island to the rest of Canada (via New Brunswick). It's 13 km long. I still don't think it's the longest bridge in the world though. Any bridge geeks out there know which one is?

Joel Tjintjelaar taught me the three most important components to B&W architecture photography is: light, shadows, and structure. At the time of this shoot I failed to bring my best lens and the post processing was a labor of love and a nightmare. Without the lens, technique to capture the exacting detail that Santiago Calatrava demands with his architecture was an exciting, formidable, demanding challenge to showcase the exacting structure in conjunction with light and shadow. I will be following up with Series ll,lll, and lV shortly.
To all my family & friends wishing you a healthy, successful & safe New Year.

Upper Antelope Canyon, about 200m in length, is a slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon includes two separate, scenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as "Upper Antelope Canyon" or "The Crack" Antelope Canyon "or" The Corkscrew ". The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means 'the place where water runs through rocks'. Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistazí (called "Hasdestwazi" by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or 'spiral rock arches'. Both are in the LeChee Chapter of the Navajo Nation.
Antelope Canyon's winding walls were carved by fast flowing flash flood waters. The floods carried abrasive sand, rocks logs and other debris picked up by the sudden torrents. Over millenia, these floods sculpted natural corridors through the soft sandstone. (sourced from internet)

Sandhill Crane.
Between 34 to 48 inches in length with a wingspan of nearly 7 feet. They are very tall with a long neck and long legs. Largely gray with a red forehead. Juveniles are browner and have no red on head. Their plumage often appears a rusty color because of iron stains from water of ponds or marshes.
They inhabit large freshwater marshes, prairie ponds and marshy tundra. They are also on prairies and grain fields during migration and in winter.
They range from Siberia and Alaska to the Hudson Bay and south into western Ontario. There are isolated populations in: the Rocky Mountains, the northern prairies, the Great Lakes, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida. They winter in California's Central Valley and across the southern states from Arizona to Florida.

Taken with 100-400mm mk2 through one way glass window. I was well impressed with this lens which I bought for this trip. Sharp and very quick to focus, definitely a winner. Mark Molloy bought a Nikon 200-500mm which also proved to be a winner, zooms are a must for some subjects, when eagles open their wings at 12 metres distance 200mm is a must !!

Europe - Hungary - Magyarország - Budapest - Capital City - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Hungarian Parliament Building - Seat of the National Assembly of Hungary on eastern banks of River Danube - Iconic famous Hungarian landmark during winter time with floating ice on Dunaj river
I traveled to Budapest for the rare sight of floating ice on Danube river, which is something very unique to see in most European capitals. It somehow became some kind of mystery, because when I checked webcams facing Danube river in Bratislava (which is also situated on this famous European river prior to Budapest) there was not a single piece of ice, during all this time when it was floating through Budapest (for about 2-3 weeks). I tried to ask locals for explanation but they seemed to be equally confused as they assumed (as I did) that the ice floats through various cities, including Bratislava or Vienna, before reaching Budapest.
So for now, my take on it is, that Budapest is located on border with Antarctica or Greenland or there is a ice factory just on the border of the capital and it occasionally (once in 5-10 years) produces these giant pieces of ice as a rare tourist attraction ;)))
Unfortunately I was too late to arrive to this "Ice Bonanza" as I was traveling in Oman prior to that. Ice started to melt the next day after my arrival therefore I didnt get that many chances to capture this unique sight.

The Neva (Russian: Нева́, IPA: [nʲɪˈva]) is a river in northwestern Russia flowing from Lake Ladoga through the western part of Leningrad Oblast (historical region of Ingria) to the Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland. Despite its modest length of 74 kilometres (46 mi), it is the fourth largest river in Europe in terms of average discharge (after the Volga, the Danube and the Rhine).
The Neva is the only river flowing from Lake Ladoga. It flows through the city of Saint Petersburg, three smaller towns of Shlisselburg, Kirovsk and Otradnoye, and dozens of settlements. The river is navigable throughout and is part of the Volga–Baltic Waterway and White Sea – Baltic Canal. It is a site of numerous major historical events, including the Battle of the Neva in 1240 which gave Alexander Nevsky his name, the founding of Saint Petersburg in 1703, and the Siege of Leningrad by the German army during World War II.
