The global environmental charity LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) manages nationally Open Farm Sunday. By welcoming people onto farms for Open Farm Sunday it drives awareness and appreciation of farming’s vital role in producing food, nurturing nature, and protecting the environment for future generations. (paraphrased from the LEAF website)
This year it fell on the Sunday the 8th of June. The family and I have been to two or three of Open Farms over the years and they are very engaging. It was my first visit to the Lillingstone Pick your own farm situated in Lillingstone Dayrell, just North of Buckingham. I was intrigued by their nature-based farming approach and the machinery displays. I made a lot of use of my wide-angle lens but shifted to the 100mm macro to get in close with the produce and Sweet William displays. Lovely with drama going on with the clouds and sun coming through. It was good to meet Mike the wheelchair farmer with his lambs for a guest display. I made a schoolboy error photographing the animals and forgot to “protect the whites” which overexposed in the direct sun. Next time!
