I added the image of the Victorian girl which I made multiple images of with different effects. Through simply moving around different pieces of the collage, I realized there were aspects of the little girl in me. The wheel of emotion on the left: sad, melancholy, worried, nervous, confused. It brought back to mind some of my fears from childhoood, and I considered fears I still deal with now.
Bette Midler's song "The Rose" seemed an appropriate choice. I reread the lyrics, and was struck by this line:
“And the soul afraid of dying, that never learns to live”
I see sometimes where I try to grasp too tightly at things in this life, or I try to hide in obscurity afraid of what people may say and remain paralyzed by fear. I no longer want fear to control me. I want to be ruled by the burning desires of my heart and the destiny God has put on my life. Nothing else matters.
