A layout i did awhile back for Chew on This magazine. This is all hand done and prepared like a silkscreen. Spray paint always looks fresh in design work.
Lately, lines and squares seem to be speaking to me. The past 2 days I participated in a guild felting workshop. It was nice to felt.

The map shows the general layout of the terrain, which rises in a series of hills and ridges from south to north. The two villages and road net are in black, and the gray areas represent rough and/or wooded terrain which is difficult for movement and impassible for close-order formations.
Here's the situation: It is July of 1813, and Soult's defeated army is retreating (just off the map, to the north, at the Pass of Maya) and he has scraped together a couple of intact divisions and whatever cavalry survived Sorauren to run interference for his disorganized columns. These forces will enter at points 1 and 2, while the Allied divisions ordered to pursue the French will choose (without consultation) from entry points 3 through 6. This opens up the possibility that. although the Allies have more and better quality troops, they may enter too far apart for mutual support, or stacked up behind each other thus slowing their deployment.
Neither of the infantry commanders wish to choose number 3, since it offers the best access to the only good cavalry country around, nor do they wish to be caught in a traffic jam by both choosing the obvious number 5. In the end, they choose 4 and 6.
This is part of a train layout representing Wheaton, Illinois. Included were the likes of Hahn Storage and Schultz Coal. It was located in the back room of my father's drug store at 136 West Liberty (Later Wheaton Pharmacy and Ron's TV). He built it in the 30's and 40's using American Flyer HO, kits and much scratch building. The copper lamps were made in 1928 in Moline. To this day, in 2013, several of the layout's building and a quartet of the copper lamps are part of my home in Tucson.
Clamshells are sewn together! 48 pieces out of 54 are from scraps. I can't believe I have ever had 48 different blue/green/gray fabrics around here in order to have scraps!

As you can see here, i have everything staggered, and as you can see from the top view it allows more room for cactus to fall.
