In partnership with the Orange County Register, Spanish-language weekly Excélsior hosted a free, open-to-the-public Pre-Thanksgiving Family Party Saturday morning from 10am to noon outside its Santa Ana headquarters.
Approximately 100 families joined in the festivities and received free Thanksgiving bags filled with canned vegetables, sauces, tortillas, chips and gift cards to Stater Bros. and Curacao to start their Thanksgiving meal. Sponsors and volunteers representing Wells Fargo, H&R Block, Curacao, the City of Santa Ana, Anaheim Marketplace and Spanish-language radio station La Ranchera were also on hand.

Language learning, starts at the bottom (difficult and scary) and finishes at the top, when you reach that point you feel empowered, confident and happy with the view ahead of you.
I selected this photo, taken at 2426 metres above sea level (the highest point) near the Astrophysics Observatory on the island of La Palma, because it shows the clear blue sky, sea of clouds and the pine tree forest below, showing the steps from starting at the bottom and working your way up, just like with a language you have to start at the beginning and work hard to reach the top... although it is never ending as you learn new things everyday.

How do you become an astronaut? A game designer? An oceanographer ? Secondary school students explored over 200 careers for AIB Future Sparks Career Skills Competition by CareersPortal. Winners were crowned at award ceremony in Department of Education.
From astronaut training in NASA to experiencing the hustle and bustle of the European Parliament, the sky was the limit for almost 1500 students who entered this year’s AIB Future Sparks Career Skills Competition by CareersPortal. Secondary school students, their families, teachers, and guidance counsellors gathered from across the country to attend the awards ceremony at the Clock Tower in the Department of Education.
The competition, which was open to all senior cycle students who have undertaken a work experience placement, was developed 14 years ago by Ireland’s award-winning and leading career guidance website CareersPortal. The competition encourages students to focus on the importance of career skills and understand the role these transferable skills can play in their future careers.
Close to 1500 students entered the competition this year and students could enter either in English or Irish through a written submission or Vlog entry. The 33 winning entries were selected from an impressive shortlist that included a diverse range of occupations from across all sectors which saw students working in microbiology labs, food production sites, game design, primary schools, hair salons and hotels to students lucky enough to gain work experience in NASA learning how to become an astronaut and a student who secured a trip to Strasbourg to experience becoming a Member of the European Parliament!
As part of Black History Month, Fellow Mary Catherine Boehmer led an interactive presentation titled “Frederick Douglass: Master of the Selfie.” Participants discussed how former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass harnessed the new technology of photography to project a certain image of himself to the world.

So, there is a bit of an Irish language revival going on, at least in policy, if not in practice. The habs have done something awful that they haven't done since 1948, they got shutout 3 games in a row this week. The Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, and Washington Capitals all had their way with the habs, who have been out scored 11-0 over those 3 games. They have back to back games this Tuesday and Wednesday as well, their record for back to back games is not great either, it's a rough time to be a habs fan.
Luckily I have had some great distractions from the habbies this weekend. A few friends and I were down at The Ship tonight while Joanna Barker and Dead Language were followed by the Hunter Gatherers. It was another great night for music and a great night to distract me from the habs' woes.
I'm doing a uni project on Body Language and how it can be interpretted. I'm rubbish at research so if anyone knows of any photographers/artists that use body language to say something in their work please let me know!!
I'm using the studio at uni properly for the first time tomorrow, yey lots of fun with lights and stuff
