The JALT PanSIG 2024 Conference was held May 24th - May 26th, 2024 at the Fukui University of Technology in Fukui City. PanSIG is an annual conference usually held in May, and organized by many of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT).

First pictures I took in black and white and first pictures I developed myself, circa 91. Iford 'Safety Film' (!) FP4. Camera was a strange secondhand Russian or German camera with an odd square aperture which had problems focusing (I think the lens was coming away!). Negs are in a terrible state I've done what I can but it's like snow if you zoom in...I rewashed them which made a massive difference but bad handling before I had a clue, storage and dusty/scratchy enlargers and I think underdeveloping and/or crap in the developer haven't helped.
You name it these negs have it: hairs, dust, odd watermarks, gunk on the negs that won't wash off, scratches, damaged emulsion, holes in the film (!) *sigh*

The habs have done something awful that they haven't done since 1948, they got shutout 3 games in a row this week. The Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, and Washington Capitals all had their way with the habs, who have been out scored 11-0 over those 3 games. They have back to back games this Tuesday and Wednesday as well, their record for back to back games is not great either, it's a rough time to be a habs fan.
Luckily I have had some great distractions from the habbies this weekend. A few friends and I were down at The Ship tonight while Joanna Barker and Dead Language were followed by the Hunter Gatherers. It was another great night for music and a great night to distract me from the habs' woes.
On December 4th, United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was assassinated, and corporate CEOs are stunned as the masses rally behind the assassin.
CEOs are hiring more security, while doubling down on a business model built on cruelty.
The healthcare business model in America is to take as much money from people as possible while providing as little healthcare as possible, and maximize profits by providing no healthcare at all.
The healthcare "business" model in America should be to provide better healthcare since more sickness means higher costs.
The 2024 version of Money For Nothin' by Dire Straits would be:
"That ain't workin'
That's the way you do it
Get their money for nothin'
They stay sick for free"
I'm not defending the murderer, but I shed no tears for a man whose life's work was to make more money by denying people access to healthcare, especially since it was healthcare they already paid for.
I won't donate to the murderer's defense fund, but I'd spit on Thompson's grave.

On the picture are Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff ; after winning a point, they walk towards each other and celebrate by making a high five. The title « de points fermes » means « firm fists ». It is a play of word with the French idiom « de pied ferme », which sounds similar, and which means to fight with great courage.
