Aside from the three computer labs, there is also a language lab in the W.K. Kellogg Library, where non-Spanish speakers can go to learn Spanish with Rosetta Stone. Students who want to learn another language other than Spanish may find the lab useful as well.

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center students and staff marked Patriot Day with a Fall Resiliency Day event held at the Price Fitness Center field Sept. 11. Presidio of Monterey Garrison Commander, Col. Paul Fellinger and DLIFLC Commandant, Col. Phillip Deppert kicked off the event by signing a joint proclamation declaring September suicide prevention month. Resiliency Day combined athletic competitions with a variety of additional recreational activities, food vendors and informational booths to improve the well-being of the body, mind and soul.

The College of DuPage Language Department and French Club (La Connexion Française), in collaboration with community members from the Alliance Française of DuPage, recently presented "Célébration de la Francophonie" at the College’s Glen Ellyn campus. The multicultural event featured displays on the customs of Francophone countries and treats from French-speaking countries, including Belgium, Congo, Switzerland, France, Haiti and Cameroon. In addition, participants had their “passports” stamped in each location and enjoyed student presentations and international folk dance.
Urmia (Turkish language: Urmu, Urmiyə, اورمیه; farsi: ارومیه) variously translitterated as Oroumiyeh, Orūmīyeh and Urūmiyeh, is a city in and the capital of West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 577,307, with 153,570 households.
The city lies at an altitude of 1,330 m above sea level on the Shahar Chay river (City River). Urmia is the 10th most populated city in Iran. The population is mainly mainly Azerbaijanian Turkish(85-90%), with Kurdish, Assyrian Christian, and Armenian minorities.
Urmia is situated on a fertile plain called Urmia Plain, on western side of Lake Urmia; and eastern side of Turkish border and marginal range of mountains.
Urmia is the trade center for a fertile agricultural region where fruit (especially Apple and Grape) and Tobacco are grown. An important town by the 9th cent., Urmia was seized by the Seljuk Turks (1184), and later occupied a number of times by the Ottoman Turks.

The sauna sits roughly five yards from the shore on Turtle River Lake, so when sitting in the sauna at Sjölunden, there is a spectacular and peaceful view over the water as seen through the window's reflection.

The English Language Fellow Program sends experienced U.S. TESOL professionals on paid teaching assignments at universities and other academic institutions around the world. As a U.S. Department of State public diplomacy initiative, Fellows are cultural ambassadors that promote English language learning and mutual understanding through cultural exchange.
From August 6-8, 2019, over 200 Fellows going to over 75 countries to teach English and train teachers met in Washington, DC for the Pre-Departure Orientation. Representing the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, Assistant Secretary Marie Royce and State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus spoke at the event.

I was at the library one day and I decided to take a look at the writings
on the bottle of water I was drinking. I realized that there were some
Spanish writings and English writings as well. This, I believe was done to
make it easier for people who can't read English to understand. Back home
in Nigeria, the same thing happens. Words are often interpreted in
different Nigerian Languages.

The founding father of Dutch-language rock and roll, Peter Koelewijn (1940), has his 85th birthday today!. His most famous song is 'Kom van dat dak af', which he recorded with the Rockets in 1960. It is still one of the best Dutch language songs. Koelewijn is also a successful producer and songwriter for other Dutch artists.
Peter Koelewijn was born on 29 December 1940 in in the southern Dutch city of Eindhoven. He was the son of a fishmonger. At the age of thirteen, he received his first guitar. In 1957, he started writing his first songs in English. He started his first band at secondary school with guitarists Karel Jansen and Roelof Egmond and singer Anneke Grönloh, who would become a pop legend in the Netherlands herself. Later on, Harry van Hoof, who later became a famous conductor, and drummer Peter van der Voort, joined the band. Around the same time, Grönloh left the band.
In 1959 the band, now called 'Peter and his Rockets', was joined by saxophone player Klaus Buchholz and bass guitarist Karel Jansen. In December, the band recorded 'Kom Van Dat Dak Af' for record company Bovema. The combination of American rock and roll and Dutch lyrics was revolutionary at the time. In May 1960, 'Kom Van Dat Dak Af' was a massive success in both the Netherlands and Belgium. Koelewijn, who moved on to grammar school, was told by his parents that he had to finish his schooling. Peter and His Rockets signed at Philips. Follow-up singles 'Laat Me Los' (Let Me Go) and 'Marijke' charted lower. By 1967 Koelewijn disbanded the Rockets to focus on writing and producing for other artists; he also hosted radio shows.

Jeanne, under a cave, all grown up at last. Pensive, thoughtful, intelligent, looking back or looking forward.........all these things come to my mind when I wonder what was on Jeanne's mind. She was around 16 when this photo was taken. She had slept in a crib next to my bed. She wet the bed until she was ten and spoke in a strange language that only I knew till she was around six or so. Mom had given her to me after she was born and she grew up thinking I was her mother. She became my beloved sister, daughter and dearest friend. When she was killed in a car accident at the age of 25 I thought my world had ended. Not a day has gone by in the passing 30 years that I haven't missed her. She had grown up into a pollyanna-like person who saw no evil in any human.

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Presidio of Monterey and the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center conducted a Military Community Resiliency Day to promote wellness, safety, team-building, unit morale, and esprit de corps for military members, families, staff and faculty here on April 3. Attendees were able to participate in a variety of activities, physical fitness competitions, wellness awareness, and information booths, while enjoying food and ware vendors, and much more.
