PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, California -- The U.S. Army team took first place at the quarterly Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center Commander’s Cup held May 18 at Presidio's Price Fitness Center Track. Air Force won first place in the men’s competition, but it was not enough to beat the combined times of the Army who finished first in the women's competition.

Ruma Roka is a graduate from Delhi University. A restless home maker aspiring to find her mission in life, she nurtured a dream of running a school one day for special ability children. The dream took inspired her to learn sign language at the AIJNIHH(National Institute for the Hearing impaired) She has no deaf people in her family and had never been exposed to the deaf world before. Learning sign language opened up her life to a community that had been sidelined for years from education and employment.
Later, with the money from a matured insurance policy and a small two bedroom apartment belonging to her husband, she founded the not- for- profit NGO Noida Deaf Society in 2005. Her mission was to train and build skills in deaf youth so that they can get employed and become a value add to our society thereby leading lives of dignity and hope.. The organization started with just 5 students with her as the single teacher teaching the students how to communicate in English in the written form.
Today NDS has 5 centers in three states of India –Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and Noida and .is impacting more than 1500 deaf youth every year who are coming from across the country and has facilitated employment in for over 500 deaf in top organizations in the country.
Ruma has won recognition for these efforts and has been covered by major news papers and magazines in Delhi. Earlier she was chosen to interpret for the speech of Mr. Abdul Kalam former president of India for the deaf at the National Awards Ceremony held on World Disabiilty Day for two consecutive years. (2006 and 2007). She has been holding workshops on sign language and creating awareness about the deaf community in mainstream schools like Sardar Patel Vidhalaya and has taught deaf school children in special schools like Amarjyoti Rehabilitation School. She also represented the deaf cause at various forums in the country, speaking about the abilities and challenges that deaf people face in India. She was also selected to interpret for the Indian Deaf Team at the International Abylimpics held in Japan in the year 2007.
Her organization went on to bag the prestigious NCPEDP Shell Helen Keller Award in the year 2008, for the exemplary work that it has been doing with the deaf community. In 2010 she was honored by the channel IBN7 as a community ‘Idol Maker’ for her work with this much marginalized community.

Nobel Square honours South Africa's four Nobel Peace laureates: the late Chief Albert Luthuli, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and former presidents Nelson Mandela and FW de Klerk. The sculptures of the four Laureates stand in the form of a crescent with Table Mountain in the background, overlooking Nobel Square.
They are slightly larger than life-size and have the Laureates' preferred quotations engraved in their chosen language in front of the sculptures. The Peace and Democracy sculpture - a narrative work acknowledging the contribution of women and children to the attainment of peace in South Africa - is slightly more to the centre of the square. All five sculptures are cast in bronze.

Hilly, volcanic Darnley Island (or Erub in the language of the Meriam Mir peoples) was the place where the first Christian service in Torres Strait (between the Australian continent and Papua New Guinea), and a bamboo church was the first building. This Romanesque style building 10-15 metres from Badog Beach went up about 1890, timber framing, coral cement, painted white, and a red corrugated asbestos cement (fibro) roof (corrugated iron above the apse at the rear). The original nave was added to by aisles on each side. Corner and side buttresses exist.
The earliest Europeans to the island would have been beche-de-mer and pearl seekers.
The population of the island is about 350.
The Coming of the Light festival is centred annually on this building, commemorating the arrival of missionaries in Torres Strait.

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Presidio of Monterey and the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center conducted a Military Community Resiliency Day to promote wellness, safety, team-building, unit morale, and esprit de corps for military members, families, staff and faculty here on April 3. Attendees were able to participate in a variety of activities, physical fitness competitions, wellness awareness, and information booths, while enjoying food and ware vendors, and much more.

Lzone Cafe is a place in Busan where foreigners and koreans come together for studying. We offer many different language lessons, for example english, french, spanish etc. If you live in Busan or visit Busan for awhile you are always welcome to pay us a visit and check Lzone Cafe out by yourself. Our teachers are capable and friendly. And of course we are friendly too. As you can see beside studying you can play games like foosball or pool. PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center Commandant, Col. Phillip Deppert, along with school mascot "Lingo" led Service Members and Presidio and DLIFLC staff on a run from Presidio's Price Fitness Center to Soldier Field for the Sept. 16 POM & DLIFLC Run/Walk for Life event in support of September's Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The walk portion of the event began at the post's Headquarter's Building, also finishing at Soldier Field, and was led by Presidio of Monterey Garrison Commander, Col. Lawrence Brown.

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- For the fifth consecutive year, service members from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and Coast Guard Station Monterey represented the military during the final three day of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Feb. 13-15 by tending a special pin adorned with the United States Flag at Pebble Beach Golf Links hole-15. The 15th hole was also the location of the Support Our Troops tent, sponsored by Group O, which provided free food, drink and other amenities to service members who had special tickets donated by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation.

Urmia (Turkish language: Urmu, Urmiyə, اورمیه; farsi: ارومیه‎) variously translitterated as Oroumiyeh, Orūmīyeh and Urūmiyeh, is a city in and the capital of West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 577,307, with 153,570 households.
The city lies at an altitude of 1,330 m above sea level on the Shahar Chay river (City River). Urmia is the 10th most populated city in Iran. The population is mainly mainly Azerbaijanian Turkish(85-90%), with Kurdish, Assyrian Christian, and Armenian minorities.
Urmia is situated on a fertile plain called Urmia Plain, on western side of Lake Urmia; and eastern side of Turkish border and marginal range of mountains.
Urmia is the trade center for a fertile agricultural region where fruit (especially Apple and Grape) and Tobacco are grown. An important town by the 9th cent., Urmia was seized by the Seljuk Turks (1184), and later occupied a number of times by the Ottoman Turks.
Urmiye (Türkçesi:اورمو, Urmu, اورمیه, Urumiyə;Farsça: ارومیه, Orumieh), İran'ın Batı Azerbaycan Eyaleti'nin yönetim merkezi olan şehir. Şehir, bağlı olduğu eyaletin orta kısmında, Urmiye Gölü ile Türkiye sınırı arasında, kendi adıyla anılan ovada kuruludur. Nüfusu 2006 yılı verileriyle 577,307 kişidir ki Urmiye ülkenin en büyük 10. şehridir.
Urmiye şehrinde nüfusun çoğunluğunu (tahmini 90%) Türklerdir, azınlık kısmınıysa Kürtler, Süryaniler ve Ermeniler oluşturuyor.
