Art on the Underground

In 2000 Grace ran a Labyrinth in St Pauls Cathedral. Following that installation the props were given to an team supporting Feltham Young Offenders Institute. In teh years that followed they have run three Labyrinths a year. This year we have been asked to refresh the props as the previous materials have worn out. So one saturday afternoon a group of us got to gether to redraft the most complex element under the supervision of Steve Colins.

This is one of the "labyrinth spiders" in the genus Metepeira. I imaged it right outside my apartment building here in mid-town Tucson, Arizona. These orb weavers spin the familiar circular web, but also weave a tangled snare around it.

On Wednesday 23 Nov Just This Day joined us for a celebration of stillness and silence.

As part of the day a labyrinth was chalked onto our courtyard, and passers-by were invited to walk it to help them unwind and find peace in the busy heart of the city.

You can walk the labyrinth any time until Friday 25 November, 9am - 4pm.

An Easter Labyrinth was set up in Penrallt Baptist Church, Bangor, on Good Friday 2007. This was a path arranged around a series of stations for meditation and prayer on the subject of Easter. Naturally, the main focus was on the cross.

"The labyrinth is thoroughly known... where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world." - Joseph Campbell
