Back to the Corn Exchange in Cambridge and the first gigg of 2013. These photos of the Kaiser Chiefs are a mixture of both mobile phone and my small Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS6 so quality could be better if I had my bigger camera.

However, I got to the front row and just to the side of the Mosh pit. My hearing returned very quickly and all the classics were played. The big question is do I buy tickets for when they come to Newmarket Nights later on in the year?

From the outside, it looks like any other silver '85 Fiero SE. The dual exhausts aren't even a giveaway; V6 Fieros had dual exhausts, and custom tailpipe extensions abound. You have to open the rear deck to know what makes this Fiero very, very special, and not to be messed with at a stoplight. Not with 500hp pushing 2400 pounds. It's a rocket ship.

Of course, a V8 Fiero never would have been built in '85; Corvette acolytes within GM would have had a fit.

Seen at the parking of the 2008 Rétromobile Ciney (Belgium), a black real Chevrolet Chevelle!

The Chevrolet Chevelle SS represented Chevrolet's entry into the hot midsize muscle car battle. The Chevelle SS was the high performance version of Chevrolet's Chevelle, and had its own line of engines and performance equipment. At first caught napping with just a 327 V8, the Chevelle SS would soon sport powerful 396 V8s and eventually the most powerful rated engine in muscle car history, the LS6 454 in 1970. The Chevelle, along with the Pontiac GTO, remains one of the most popular cars from this era and with good reason. Its strong performance at a reasonable price made it popular on the street and at the track.

Originally my 1999 Trans AM had an LS1 5.7L (346-cu-in) engine. The 98-00 GM F-Body cars with an LS1 engine had a rating of 305HP - 315HP.

We added SLP... See More’s PerformancePac (High-Flow Air-Box Lid, Cold-Air Induction Package, High-Flow K&N Air Filter and F-Body Smooth Bellows). Dyno-testing of LS1’s after SLP's HP PerformancePac has been installed has shown 22 hp increases.

We replaced the exhaust system. On average, CORSA systems will deliver a 3-5% increase in horsepower, though this may vary by vehicle. For this example, Trans Am with the CORSA system has shown an average increase of 10-19 HP. In addition to HP increases, CORSA systems dramatically increase free-air-flow, allowing for other performance modifications to achieve their full performance potential.

So the original LS1 with these modifications and a few other electronic ones should have been increased to somewhere around 350 HP.

GM introduced the LS6 in 2001 in the Corvette Z06. The LS1 and LS6 share a 5.7L displacement, but the LS6 production engine uses a unique block casting with enhanced strength, greater bay-to-bay breathing capability and other minor differences. The heads, intake manifolds and camshaft also are unique LS6 parts.

Two years ago we put a brand new LS6 engine in the 1999 Trans Am. This engine never came in Trans Ams directly from the factory.

The 5.7-liter LS6 built on the inherent strengths of the LS1 engine, but benefited from a higher-lift camshaft and higher-compression pistons to raise horsepower 405, and torque from to 400 lb.-ft. Such tremendous power is produced through the use of hollow-stem valves, a more aggressive camshaft, improved intake and higher-rate valve springs.

So it is likely that my Trans Am has somewhere between 430 HP and 440 HP versus the original 305 - 315 HP.

Two and half years ago a new transmission was installed in the Trans Am.

Last year the suspension was replaced with what SLP installed in their Firehawk versions of the Trans Am.

This spring the doors were replaced, the internal fiberglass frames were broken. To make it look right the car was completely stripped down to bare metal or fiberglass, re-primed and painted. The windshield had enough stone chip damage for State Farm to agree to have replaced. And lastly the cracked top pad of the dash was replaced.

Photoshoot of our most recent car which does not have an owner. It will be one of the last MT900's with the LS6 motor. Interested? :-)

CHECK OUT www.mustangjames.blogspot.com FOR ALL PROJECT DETAILS OR FIND ME ON CARDOMAIN. This is my 2002 SN95 with T5 trans. I stroked it from 3.8L (232ci) to 4.2L (256ci). I swapped in a F150 crank, forged Eagle rods and forged Diamond dished pistons. The cam is from Isky Racing Cams ground to 214/214 0.502" 112 degree. The whole top end is from a 1993 SuperCoupe Thunderbird. The aluminum heads are single port, fully ported and polished. I put in GM LS4 valves and guides, each valve is 11 grams lighter and 0.100" bigger, GM LS6 valve springs, stock rockers for now. On the heads are long tube headers from PaceSetter. The intake manifold was port matched to the heads and polished in as far as I could reach. The supercharger is an Eaton M90 with a fully ported case and a 10% overdrive pulley. Ported and polished intake plenums and throttle body as well. TwEECer RT tuning package. Check my CarDomain page for a full list of project parts and Blog for all the project details. Power goal is simply 400+RWTQ, daily driver with limited slip and 3.73's.
