You’ll most likely see Red-tailed Hawks soaring in wide circles high over a field. When flapping, their wingbeats are heavy. In high winds they may face into the wind and hover without flapping, eyes fixed on the ground. They attack in a slow, controlled dive with legs outstretched – much different from a falcon’s stoop.
The Red-tailed Hawk is a bird of open country. Look for it along fields and perched on telephones poles, fenceposts, or trees standing alone or along edges of fields.

I'll have a rest before the fun begins. Synchiropus splendidus, the mandarinfish or mandarin dragonet, is a small, brightly colored member of the dragonet family, which is popular in the saltwater aquarium trade. The mandarinfish is native to the Pacific, ranging approximately from the Ryukyu Islands south to Australia. It can usually be found in some of the warmer waters.

One more mushroom shot :-) from yesterday's trip to the Steinbachtalsperre near Euskirchen. Shot with my Olympus E-M10 and processed in Lightroom mobile.
I'll add another photo for today. And one from nature, which is my favorite anyway.
Here you can see a field of sunflowers glowing in the evening sun. And if you look closely, you will see a butterfly moving through the picture coming from the right.
It cannot be seen in detail due to the distance and exposure time. But the color drawing (black and red) makes me pretty sure that this is an admiral.
Someone who doesn't cruise on the classic sea, but on that of sunflowers.
Ich lege für heute doch noch ein Foto nach. Und zwar eins aus der Natur, die sind mir eh die liebsten.
Hier seht Ihr ein Sonnenblumenfeld, welches in der Abendsonne leuchtet. Und wenn Ihr genau hinseht, erkennt Ihr einen Schmetterling, der sich von rechts kommend durch das Bild bewegt.
Im Detail kann man Ihn auf Grund der Entfernung und der Belichtungszeit nicht erkennen. Doch die Farbzeichnung (Schwarz und Rot) machen mich ziemlich sicher, dass es sich hier um einen Admiral handelt.
Mal einer, der nicht auf dem klassische Meer, sondern auf dem der Sonnenblumen kreuzt.

Me voici encore une fois dans ces bois loin au-dessus de Curbans. Le sentier violent monte vers les sommets séparant la vallée de la Durance et celle du Gand Vallon (c'est le nom de la rivière). Après une montée ininterrompue, il flâne à flanc de montagne, laissant au randonneur le loisir d'apprécier paisiblement les sous-bois où le printemps ne se signale guère encore. Le feuillage est à nos pieds, mais les troncs se chauffent au soleil d'avril : la renaissance est proche. Six cents mètres de dénivelée, plus de huit kilomètres ; mais je n'ai vu personne. C'est souvent le cas ici.

It'll never be the same here again... but that's a wonderful thing! Several weeks after it appeared that mobilization had begun on the Ottumwa Amtrak station and platform renovation project, this week contractors actually started the deconstruction process.
Presumably, they took down the electrical/lights on the northeast quadrant and installed a temporary bypass on Monday. Yesterday, they started removing the canopy crossmembers. Today they chopped down the canopy supports. They'll take these offsite, chop off the bottom foot, sandblast them, weld a plate to the bottom, and paint them before bringing them back onsite to reinstall.
The platforms will be ripped up and replaced with precast panels and north-side fencing. The south side platform will be cut in half for better ease of maintenance on M1. The tracks will be ripped out through the platform, undercut, drainage installed, and put back. Sidewalks and enhanced crossings will be installed for ADA compliance. Some upgrades to the signage, waiting room, and bathrooms are also planned. This likely is a one-day-only view.

I'll be the first to admit, photographing end cab switchers is not all that appealing when they're positioned "glass out". But hell, I'd take pictures of dog shit if it were in foliage like this!
In all seriousness though, the Grafton and Upton Railroad offers some scenic locations for photos and fall definitely enhances the line ten fold. In this photo, G&U MP15AC #1160 trails on their 12 car train through a blanket of golden fall foliage in Upton, Massachusetts.

This is the Quire at York Minster, England, the second-largest Gothic cathedral of Northern Europe. The present building was begun in about 1230 and completed in 1472.
The Quire was built between 1361 and the 1420s, although much of the original structure was destroyed in a fire started deliberately on the night of 1 February 1829. The blaze had been started by Jonathan Martin, a frequent visitor to the cathedral at the time, who had attended a service that afternoon and then hidden inside until the building was locked for the night. Martin reportedly used a rope taken from the bell tower to climb into the Quire, before setting the area alight and making his escape through a window. The fire wasn't detected until the following morning, but despite the best efforts of firefighters, the blaze completely destroyed the Quire including its medieval panelling, stalls, roof and the Grand Organ. The instrument is believed to have dated in part from 1632.
It is unclear why Martin started the fire – some suggest he disliked the style of worship at the Minster and others have reported that he claimed to dislike the noise the organ made. He is quoted as saying: "I'll have thee down tonight, thou shalt buzz no more." He was arrested shortly after the fire, declared insane at trial and sent to Bedlam Hospital in London where he spent the rest of his life.
As part of the rebuilding work at the Minster after the fire, a new Grand Organ was commissioned in 1829, and parts of this instrument still exist today. A donation of £3,000 paid for most of the cost of the new organ and its "gingerbread gothic" style case which sits above the Quire Screen.
In 2018 a major 3-year, £2m refurbishment began on the organ, the first on this scale since 1903. The instrument was removed in October 2018 – including nearly all of its 5,403 pipes – and taken to Durham for repair and refurbishment by organ specialists Harrison and Harrison. The majority of the 100 display pipes in the main organ casing will be brought back into use for the first time in more than 100 years. The organ has now been returned to the cathedral and work is underway to rebuild it, ready for completion in spring 2021.
