Lemon Still Life (Painterly Blur)
This is part of a small group of iPhone images that I wanted to get in my photstream
So sorry I was not clear about what this insect is. It is in fact a flower mantis
Flower Mantises are species of praying mantis that mimic flowers.[1] Their coloration is an example of aggressive mimicry, a form of camouflage in which a predator's colours and patterns lure prey.[2] Most species of flower mantis are in the family Hymenopodidae. Their behaviour varies, but typically involves climbing a plant until they reach a suitable flower, and then staying still until a prey insect comes within range.
At this time of year in my garden the most extraordinary little dancers appear.
They festoon the plants. Seem to particularly love the lemon tree.
They curl up their abdomen to look like a flower and do the most extraordinary camouflage.
They are always a wonder and a miracle when I see them.

Meglio i limoni di Sorrento o di Amalfi? A questa domanda non saprei rispondere senza scatenare una guerra. Sicuramente nonostante la vicinanza possiamo dire che la tipologia di limone, la coltivazione e il terreno siano completamente diverse. La coltivazione a Sorrento non è a terrazzamento e il terreno è monto fertile grazie alla vicinanza del Vesuvio, la buccia del limone è ricca di oli essenziali. Le piante vengono protette dalle "pagliarelle" ossia stuoie appoggiate su pali in legno. Una curiosità? Tutti gli alberi di limone sono innestati su piante di arancio amaro.
Not really a slice of lemon, more like a big chunk to be able to get such a splash. Love the fact that quite a number of droplets have caught the flash firing turning them into little diamonds. The vase is wonky - another quality purchase from the local Ikea lol.
Just a lemon. I put this lemon on my website and it became inexplicably popular. Lots of people hotlinked it. I mean, I love lemons and all, but, it's just a lemon, it's not even a particularly attractive lemon..
The hills are alive with orchards. Lemons are growing in the foreground while the trees with the darker foliage on the hill are avocados. The scene is in a rural area of Goleta, CA with a glimpse of the Santa Ynez Mountains at the right background.
