As bright as bright can be.

We all enjoy our Vegemite

For breakfast, lunch, and tea.

Our mother says we're growing

stronger every single week.

Because we love our Vegemite.

We all adore our Vegemite.

It puts a rose in every cheek!

Come on all you Aussies you know the tune LOL .....

No ... not my usual flowers ... something completely out of left field. My photography assignment is 5 images that portray "What it means to be Australian" ..... so one of the photos is on vegemite .... nothing says more about growing up in Australia than vegemite ....

Inspired by Tio and his painting with light (although I'm sure that this is not what he had in mind ) I've just put my spin on it .... I had an absolute blast doing this .... so many shots trying to get it the centre, trying to get it so you can read it, trying to finish it in the 15seconds.... so much fun .... so thank you my flickr friend Tio for pushing me into the unknown ... :)

Trying to create a snowy and icy window is a bit tricky here, in the UK, where it's currently drizzling (again)! Frost effect is created by painting on a super-saturated solution of Epsom salts in water and letting it dry — it forms lovely crystalline forms very similar to actual frost. The snow is then bicarbonate of soda dusted on with a teaspoon! 3 separate shots are combined, a 'natural' only lit shot, then a candlelit shot and finally the LED light strand. LED lights are wonderfully cheap and adaptable but give a horrible green colour cast unless shot as a separate layer and heavily colour corrected.

In camerastack 50 pics, D850, stepsize 3, single LEDlight lightning and processed with Helicon Focus.

The light in the back was a small LED flashlight covered with a white dishtowel and a CTO filter. Rim light at right side of picture was a small incandescent flashlight aimed through an electric flash diffuser sock. The main light was a small incandescent flashlight with no diffuser.

I know, I am not belonging to this land.

Some day I will answer that call from the deep blue ocean.

細心聆聽那深藍的呼喚,

你會知道我的心靈歸處。

On Christmas Day, I went to have whale watching and also "whale watching sunset" in West End downtown Vancouver.

Please view Large by clicking the image in order to admire the great quality from the Fuji lens and camera,

More information about this public art piece lumiere orca is clipped and posted in the following.

Hand-crafted in Slovakia by MK Illumination, the seven metre long orca sculpture contains over 6,000 white LED bulbs, chosen for their environmentally friendly construction. The entire sculpture only uses 177 watts and 36v of electricity, less than the energy used in running an average refrigerator for a day.

Photographic discussion:

Fuji X camera and lenses are spoiling the photographers and you can shoot high quality images straight from camera in JPEG without edit. This is another test shot of my sample unit of 35mm F2 lens.

When you are shooting pictures like working with a point & shoot. All you need to know is only that while taking pictures of objects in artificial lighting you have to find a balance between ambient light and the light on the object. And this could be a short span of 5-10 minutes in a day. I am lucky to get there just in time by sunset. There is the old saying "right time, right place"!

For Macro Mondays 'Hobby' theme: two Flickr-coloured blobs of watercolour pencil with the tip of a watercolour brush.

My wife and I began attending a community art evening class about 18 months ago; I was hoping it might help to improve my photography...

A colour-popped satsuma for this week's Macro Mondays' "Citrus" theme. I know colour-popping was very popular (and over used) about 10 years ago and I don't really like that style very much but thought it was the best of the bunch that I prepared for this week's theme.

HMM to everyone!

Although no significant accumulation of snow, we did get some recent snow flurries in the past couple of days.

These kids were more interested in the tailpipe than they were the LED lights. I'm sure the engine wasn't running, but the kids seemed to be hovering around the tailpipe a lot. So I grabbed this shot, using my smartphone. I was noticing my phone had a far better exposure latitude than my much older DSLR, which also had a slower lens. Seeing how the faster lens and the better sensor on my phone, I'll keep in mind using my phone for more photos when it begins to get darker at venues like this.

A mini LED light in motion.

Smile on Saturday - Bokeh in monochrome.

You probably (and hopefully) saw the video version of this I had posted some time back. I was in the same position, but for the video the HD image cropped part of the top and bottom of this same frame.

As I had said before, I'm not sure if it was the wisest choice to take a perfectly good classic 1950s Ford and add LED lights on it. The image suggests a science fiction movie set in some alternate universe that emphasizes 1950s designs.
