This walkway is in the Miramichi River on Middle Island in Miramichi, New Brunswick. European settlers landed here during the Great Potato Famine. There was much sickness on the ships and this Island became a quarantine stop for passengers .
Many leaves they are found
Clinging tightly to the ground
Shining in the Winter sun
As the feet, do race and run
Past the side of the cold wet ground
Where many leaves, now they are found
For a photographer, what could be more interesting than the play of light? Hindus worship the sun as God. I think that is normal as there is no life on earth without sunlight, one of the elements of life. This morning when I came out of my house I was pleasantly surprised by the dance of light on these tender green-yellow leaves swaying gently in the breeze against the gorgeous blue sky. The tree was full of such tender leaves announcing the arrival of spring. In all these pictures the leaves are backlit. I enjoyed seeing through the viewfinder with my 70-300 on, more than seeing the photos.
Of course on downloading I found the shadow patterns formed on the leaves very interesting.

I know flowers get most of the airtime, but I happen to like leaves. Thus I've started a new project where I try to present interesting compositions of leaves I find while walking around the Botanic Garden. Here is the first installment.
Time and circumstance (and weather!) have prevented me from capturing full blown autumnal vistas of colour this year, so here are three mini-me autumn scenes that I have managed to capture on my wanderings of late…
