A night out in Barton leads to a picture of one of my favouirte colour schemes ever. Joey Dunlop rode one of his last TT's in these colours and won in the late '90s when he was "past it". Joey will always be the supreme master of the TT course in my mind and many others to. His record speaks for itself and his name is still used in based on projects Joey would approve of www.joeydunlopfoundation.com/.

A spur off of Old Dale Road leads to the Mission Mine 0.2 mi N of the park boundary

History of Mission Mine (Huff and Lane, Lone Star Group)

Some discrepancy exists as to the exact location of this mine. In the late 1920's it was reported that the Huff and Lane or Lone Star Group consisted of 21 claims in the Pinto District in T2s, R12E, at an Elevation of 1,200 ft. It's owners were E. C. Huff of Los Angeles and George Lane of Mecca. The Mine had Been Discovered by Lane in 1887. A 60ft shaft with drifts had been sunk on the ore vain. A 20 ton ball mill and amalgamation plates had been set up on the property. Water came from a 600ft drop well lined with 7in casing. 6 men were employed.

In the 1930's the Mission (Huff-Lane) gold mine of 21 claims in T2S, R12E, was described as developed by shafts, the deepest being 570 ft, with 600 ft of drifts. Mill equipment consisted of a 10 ft arrastra. 3 men were employed, the property being under lease to Messrs. Henderson, Foulkes, and Ake. In 1940 the Lone Star Group comprising seven claims and 2 millsites was described in this same location. The owner, E. C. Huff, had the property under lease and the bond to Mission Gold Mines, Inc. Development consisted of a 600 ft shaft, drifts, and a raise. Ore sent to the Gold Grown Mining Company's mill averaged $43 a ton. In 1945 however, the Mission Gold Mine (Huff and Lane, Lone Star Group) was reported as being located in Section 5 T3S, R12E. It was idle at this time. During 1949 development work carried out included a 2 compartment shaft 600 ft deep, drifting on the 100-, 300-, 400-, and 600- ft levels. and raise to the surface. 5,000 - 10,000 tons of ore had been blocked out.

Evaluation of Resources and Recommendations for Mission Mine

Mine equipment at this operation consisted of a 6 horsepower gasoline hoist and a compressor driven by an automobile engine. During mine inspections in the early 1970s, investigators tentatively identified the Mission Mine as being in Section 23, T2S, R12E, about 1/4 to 1/2 mile north of the Old Dale Road. 4 mine shafts were found there. Ownership of the property was uncertain, although a Palm Springs man claimed part ownership in a "Mission Mine" just outside the monument at the end of the road along which these shafts were located.

The site was not visited during this writer's field trips. The mine is Not considered historically significant and because no structures other than shafts exist within the monument it was not deemed necessary to personally inspect it. The section of the Mission Mine just outside the north monument boundary is being worked occasionally. 3 trailer homes and a tall metal headframe are visible there. The site in the monument is recommend for natural deterioration.

This is one of the most famous papal monuments in St. Peter's and is the masterpiece of the 80-year old Bernini with assistance by various artists. The door under the monument leads to an exit of the basilica. Alexander VII was the pope who commissioned Bernini to enclose St. Peter's Square with the colonnade.

The present tomb is one of the greatest combined enterprises of Bernini's studio. Bernini himself made drawings and a small model of the whole tomb. On 7 October 1672 he received 1,000 scudi for the design and model. A preliminary design, made in the studio, incorporating theprincipal features of the tomb, survives in the Royal Library at Windsor. Bernini himself had a hand, at least, in the statue of the Pope: he probably put the finishing touches to the face. Charity was carried out by Giuseppe Mazzuoli between May 1673 and November 1675; Truth first by Lazzaro Morelli between November 1673 and December 1674, when the figure was handed over to Giulio Cartari, Bernini's favourite, who finished it between April and November 1675. Michele Maglia was responsible for the figure of the Pope.

The Pontiff, kneeling and absorbed in prayer, is not disturbed by the sudden appearance of Death, who, raising a heavy pall, brandishes an hour-glass to indicate that time has passed. The four statues represent the virtues practiced by the Pontiff: in the foreground is Charity with a child in her arms, and Truth who sets a foot on a map of the world, and precisely on England where the Pope sought in vain to quell the growth of Anglicanism.

A door leads out to a four story drop. The Great North Sugar Mill in Longmont, Colorado sits abandoned; yet it is always in motion and changing. The walls have transformed into gallery space as urban artists explore the space and leave their visions behind. In the early 1900’s, as many as 600 workers filled the plant as it ran around the clock. The beet sugar industry quickly became very profitable. Decades later though, the outlook had turned as the sugar market became oversaturated. In 1977, the Longmont Sugar factory closed forever. Now the factory sits as a toxic decaying ruin. Inside this very deteriorated building, walls have fallen down, floors have collapsed, and anything salvageable has been removed. Bags of asbestos lay throughout the site alongside pools of PCBs. This space has transformed from a bustling workplace to a haven for explorers and artists alike.

The trail leads to the Turquoise Lake located on the slopes of Ai-Petri Mountain. The color of the water in the lake can vary depending on the lighting and viewing angle: sometimes it looks like pure turquoise, and sometimes it has a greenish tinge. A log bridge has been built on the pond — this is the best place on the trail for photography.
