I'm pretty thrilled with Ubuntu Studio after a couple of hours of my first pokings about. Look at all the free/open sound apps, and utilities! It would have taken me a long time to figure out which apps I might want, as I'm still fairly n00b with Linux, and even worse with anything audio related. Now I have a great, pre-approved list of tools that people who know far better what they're doing with sound have chosen, plus I know they'll all work with my distro. It's like Christmas. I've just been going through the list, reading manuals to learn what each is, what it does, and why I might care :)

I've never really done any people shots before so it's not perfect or anything but this one is rather amusing. No idea what Andrew was actually doing here - he was talking to the camera about whisky for some reason.
I'd have preferred it if the background was either in focus or completely blurred as opposed to this weird half blur that I've ended up with. Then again, people shots aren't my area of expertise so I'm still happy with the overall result.

While at the zoo, I noticed people standing next to eachother, taking a picture of the same animal in the dead center of the frame. Quite possibly, they would not even be able to recognise their own photo between a series of other zoo visitors.
That notice brought me to the idea of taking pictures of their camera's LCD screens, since maybe it makes no difference who took the picture. I was there as well and it was my moment as much as theirs. Besides, I took the photo before they pushed down on the shutter release button so it is my photo anyway.
I might relive the moment differently when looking at the photo later on but the image that may trigger the recall of my memory might just as well be theirs and vice versa.

On our neighborhood's "for sale" page, I found a used Nikon Coolpix L110 for a reasonable price and scooped it up as a small backup camera.
The controls are simple and standardized, so there was no need to read a manual or play around too much.
And no, there's no blue stripe across the bottom of the screen; that's the reflection of the white cutting mat I was using to get these photos.

I built this to play my videos in a gallery. To hear what is happening on screen you must hold the phone handset up to your ear.
