En la misma ubicación existía un puente construido en 1227, cuando el alcalde de la época, Rubaconte de Mandello, colocó la primera piedra con Lapo, por este tiempo su nombre puente Rubaconte, con 9 arcos, era el mas largo y antiguo de la ciudad.
Con el tiempo el numero de arcos se fue reduciendo a 6 y se vio copado por varias casas de madera, muy similar al que hoy muestra el Ponte Vecchio.
También en el Ponte alle Grazie (o Rubaconte) se había erigido una serie de edificios, casas de madera, la mayoría de los tabernáculos, luego transformadas en capillas (1471), ermitas y tiendas, similares a las existentes en el Ponte Vecchio, pero más bonita.
Entre estas capillas había una con un patrocinio de Madonna degli Alberti, la estructura era antigua, llamada Santa Maria alle Grazie debido a sus propiedades milagrosas que tradicionalmente se las arregló para hacer la gracia, de este tabernáculo, el puente debe su nombre actual.
En agosto de 1944, sus poderosos arcos fueron destruidos por el estallido de las minas alemanas después de la retirada nazi. Al año siguiente (1945) una competición se celebró para la reconstrucción del puente y el ganador fue el proyecto del grupo formado por los arquitectos Giovanni Michelucci, Edward Said, Richard Gizdolich y Danilo Santi e ingeniero Piero Melucci. Un proyecto que implicó este momento, una solución de sólo cinco arcos, y se hizo después de considerables variaciones de las ideas iniciales.
Fue inaugurado en 1957.

We were watching a large group of vultures from a distance as it was impossible to get closer! While watching the group all of a sudden a number of these cultures took-off and headed directly towards our position! What a great opportunity to quickly make some BIF headshots!

When I saw this iPhone advertising hoarding at an underground station last summer and then glanced inside the open doors of the train that was just getting ready to depart I thought to myself - "This is just too easy...". That didn't stop me from taking the shot though! 😄
