Double-crested Cormorant:
The gangly Double-crested Cormorant is a prehistoric-looking, matte-black fishing bird with yellow-orange facial skin. Though they look like a combination of a goose and a loon, they are relatives of frigatebirds and boobies and are a common sight around fresh and salt water across North America—perhaps attracting the most attention when they stand on docks, rocky islands, and channel markers, their wings spread out to dry. These solid, heavy-boned birds are experts at diving to catch small fish.
From a distance, Double-crested Cormorants are dark birds with snaky necks, but up-close they’re quite colorful—with orange-yellow skin on their face and throat, striking aquamarine eyes that sparkle like jewels, and a mouth that is bright blue on the inside.
The double crest of the Double-crested Cormorant is only visible on adults during breeding season. The crests are white in cormorants from Alaska and black in other regions.
Cormorants often stand in the sun with their wings spread out to dry. They have less preen oil than other birds, so their feathers can get soaked rather than shedding water like a duck’s. Though this seems like a problem for a bird that spends its life in water, wet feathers probably make it easier for cormorants to hunt underwater with agility and speed.
Double-crested Cormorant nests often are exposed to direct sun. Adults shade the chicks and also bring them water, pouring it from their mouths into those of the chicks.

I know, another photo of the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-House. However, I wanted a sunset with a classic 35mm version. Long exposure is also a must here.

I know, this shot breaks the cardinal rule of dog photography - Never compose a shot with a tree growing out of the dog's head. But I just loved the happy expression on Jasper's face as we ran through the green space. An in my defense, this was shot blind as I ran with the camera dangling low (see the shadow) so I didn't really compose the shot, the composition just happened. Not my fault 😜

If you have lost a loved one, know that because of the Conservation of Energy, their energy has not died. Remember the First Law of Thermodynamics; that no energy gets created in the universe, and none is destroyed. All their energy, every vibration, every BTU of heat, every wave of every particle that was your loved one remains with you in this world. Know that amid energies of the cosmos, they gave as good as they got.
All the photons that have ever bounced off their face, all the particles whose paths were interrupted by their happiness, by the touch of their hair, hundreds of trillions of particles, have raced off like children, their ways forever changed by the one you love. And as you grieve, know that the photons that bounced from them were gathered in the particle detectors that are your eyes, that those photons created within their constellations of electromagnetically charged neurons whose energy will go on forever.
According to the Law of the Conservation of Energy, not a bit of them is gone; they're just less orderly.

It's funny how such creatures, simplistic in so many ways, can inhabit personalities more complex and deep by comparison to the shallow, murky waters of the WalMart kiddie pools that some human beings are made of. He was my shadow, my sentinel, my buddy, my pal. Little did I know that this Valentine's Day gift from an ex would lead to a lasting companionship who's absence is felt, even to this day.
Some people would scoff and say "Oh, it's just a cat." As heartless as those people are, he was so much more than the sum of himself. He probably would've followed me through the Gates of Hell and back, if I'd let him... and give them a piece of his mind in the process, since he was a chatterbox.
Where people would often fail, he would succeed.
Rest in peace, buddy.

As a result of archaeological research we know that in the time of the Roman emperor Augustus, in the first century AD., Carmona went through a prolonged period of peace and economic prosperity. This led to the construction of large and important public buildings, among them the Gate of Cordoba, which was not only a defensive gate but also had a certain propaganda value, symbolizing the advance of the Roman empire.
In the Gate of Cordoba we can appreciate the traces left by the different cultures that have established themselves in our town throughout its long history.
During the time of the Catholic Monarchs, the Gate lost its original purely defensive function and, with it, its austere military appearance, as it took on the role of the supervision of products coming into Carmona from outside the town walls, in practice effectively acting as a customs post and, as a result, acquiring elements of civil architecture.
In the 16th century it underwent Renaissance alterations and, at the beginning of the 17th century, beautiful ornamental motifs, such as coats of arms and marble statues, now unfortunately lost, were added, all of which dignified the Gate.
Its Baroque appearance dates to the time of Charles II, with the reforms which took place in 1688.
At the end of the 18th century, the last reforms were carried out by the famous Neoclassical architect from Carmona, José Echamorro, and part of the monument was rebuilt and the complex consolidated

As far as I know the first to describe this exuberantly orange Azalea was the well-known German-Dutch botanist Carl Ludwig Blume (1796-1862). He wrote his short description in 1823 almost immediately after becoming director of 's-Lands Plantentuin (Kebun Raya) in what was then Buitenzorg, today Bogor on Java, Indonesia. There has been some confusion about the provenance of our shrub, whether China or Japan. Apparently both varieties are so alike that the scientific name on which scientists agree is Rhododendron molle (Blume) G. Don, subsp. japonicum Kron.
If you want to learn more go to the fine article - including great maps - by Kathleen Anne Kron (1956-) in the Edinburgh Journal of Botany 1993, pp.279-281. Worth a read.

I can't count the times
I almost said what's on my mind
But I didn't
And just the other day
I wrote down all the things I'd say
But I couldn't
I just couldn't
Baby, I know that you've been wonderin'
Mm, so here goes nothin'
In case you didn't know
Baby, I'm crazy 'bout you
And I would be lyin' if I said
That I could live this life without you
Even though
I don't tell you all the time
You had my heart a long, long time ago
In case you didn't know
The way you look tonight
That second glass of wine
That did it
Mm
There was somethin' 'bout that kiss
Girl, it did me in
Got me thinkin'
I'm thinkin'
One of the things that I've been feelin'
it's time you hear 'em
In case you didn't know
Baby, I'm crazy 'bout you
And I would be lyin' if I said

This picture was taken in Chipley, Florida. Many, many years ago, I would swim in this lake as a young fellow. It is known as Blue Lake Park and is a very nice place for families who want to have a picnic and go swimming. There is playground equipment for children too.

I don’t know what it’s all about
But every time I look around
All I see is how we’re holding on
Don’t ask me what’s wrong or right
I don’t even know the time
All I know is I’m holding on
I haven’t figured anything out
I haven’t figured anything, anything, anything out
I haven’t figured anything out
I haven’t figured anything, anything, anything out
City dove
Fly between the buildings and fences
Soft inside but rough on the edges
Waiting here for something to come
It just holding on, it just holding on
City dove
Fly between the stars and the headlights
Passing by the clouds and the street signs
Knowing that there’s something to come
It just holding on, it just holding on
It just holding on
I don’t really know my fate
I just know I’m on my way
There will be mistakes, movin’ on
I try to get to the heart of it
Fly low but looking for heaven
Oh, I know, I know I’m holding on
I won’t figure everything out
I’ll never figure everything out
You’ll never figure everything out
No, no, no, no
I won’t figure everything out
I’ll never figure everything, everything, everything out
City dove
Fly between the buildings and fences
Soft inside but rough on the edges
Waiting here for something to come
You just holding on, you just holding
City dove
Fly between the stars and the headlights
Passing by the clouds and the street signs
Knowing that there’s something to come
You just holding on, you just holding on
City dove
Fly between the buildings and fences
Soft inside but rough on the edges
Waiting here for something to come
You just holding on (You just holding on), you just holding
City dove
Fly between the stars and the headlights
Passing by the clouds and the street signs
Knowing that there’s something to come
You just holding on, you just holding on
You’ll never figure everything out

I always know when autumn is upon us. The days grow shorter, a chill electrifies the air, and the camellia sasanquas in my hedge in my rear garden start to flower. Well, there may me no chill in the air - quite the contrary actually - however my camellias are budding and the first perfect bloom has appeared.
My "Plantation Pink" camellia sasanqua is always the first of my camellias to blossom in Autumn out of the specimens in my camellia hedge at the rear of my garden, and it seems to have thrown almost overnight. Where yesterday there were tight buds, today there are crepe like blooms.
Vigorous and fast growing, Camellia Sasanqua “Plantation Pink” is an upright evergreen shrub with masses of large sweetly scented single to semi-double, soft pink flowers and a wonderful centre of golden yellow stamens. The blooms occur over quite a long period between March and June in the Southern Hemisphere which makes them very popular. They are often used for hedges or to cover walls.

what these strange bugs are??? They're all over my hosta stems and on this vine... they started out like a small white jumping bug... and today they look like this!!!
Well, I know I’ve never been to Spain, can’t say for sure about this little guy, though, what with all the worm holes and Ley Lines in my yard. Actually, he looks a lot like Michelle’s, so the wormhole thing would not surprise me. This could have easily turned into a silhouette shot but with the help of Lightroom I was able to make a beauty shot out of it. So, we started spring with a Robin and we are concluding summer with a Robin. As per usual, there are ten thousand different ways to present this, but I decided to keep cropping to a minimum because I fell in love with the leaves. But as the song says Oklahoma, Arizona, what does it matter …
Yeah... I know, Don't say what you are thinking. Halfway through this adventure, I started to realize that this was pretty insane.... the time that I spent gathering all this stuff... and then driving to this abandoned shed and setting it all up to shoot it.... I really need to get a life and put my time to better use. (There I said it for you!)

the trouble I've seen nobody knows my sorrow's. This image of this drooping flower including the dark editing has a melancholic feel about it. I thought the title fit. It was an 'earworm' for a while yesterday.

It was wonderful to meet Charles Phoenix yesterday at his excellent "Addicted To Americana" event at the California Auto Museum. Great to see Gretchen from SacMod, too!
If you love Americana, then this book is a must-have!
You know the drill - warm coat, woolly hat, gloves, wellies, snow shovel and you're working hard to clear the snow from your driveway. That was me this afternoon. I had planned to treat my garden birds to a few live mealworms after my hard work but 'my' Robin wasn't prepared to wait. He flew into my garage and helped himself ... he knows where I keep them!
So, I thought it was fitting to post a Robin in the snow. This was taken in my garden a few years ago. The white feathers made him very distinctive but, sadly, last winter was last time I saw him.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

I know the color of truth,

If it comes for the heart, then you know that its true,
It will color your soul, like a rainbow
(Like a rainbow)
And the color of love, is in you
I know what you all must be thinking. Nothing can be quite that green !!!!! Well he was that green and I could hardly believe he was real . A beautiful bird to say the least and the little touch of orange in the ear area is his ear. When I first saw this I though he perhaps was hurt but that is the way this species is. A wonderful sighting on our recent trip to Ecuador and another first !!
Wishing you a beautiful and blessed evening !!!!

I know what the caged bird feels, alas!
When the sun is bright on the upland slopes;
When the wind stirs soft through the springing grass,
And the river flows like a stream of glass;
When the first bird sings and the first bud opens,
And the faint perfume from its chalice steals –
I know what the caged bird feels!

The Aveda tea is by far my favorite, it has a hint of anise or fennel that gives that licorice taste compound with a few drops of honey and it is a wonderful winter's night cup. The black on black was a fun one to shoot but I liked how the tea bag popped which is what this is all about the bag of tea.
I know I'm seemingly obsessed with snow now but we've simply had SO much that it's really all I've photographed for many months now. We awake today in what is now supposed to spring to more of the white stuff. I'm 'pretty' certain there can't be any more though and spring will shoo it away soon!
This spot was a bit of a challenge to get to as it's nestled up on Grinton Moor in Swaledale but it's a favourite spot I visit and I didn't have it in the snow so made an effort (well....when I say I made an effort....I got my husband to drive the car who's a lot be experienced in winter driving than me - Southerner that I am lol!).

I Know You
Song by Skylar Grey
I believe, I believe there's love in you
Grid locked on the dusty avenues
Inside your heart, just afraid to go
I am more, I am more than innocent
But just take a chance and let me in
And I'll show you ways that you don't know
Don't complicate it,
Don't let the past dictate
Yeah,
I have been patient, but slowly I'm losing faith
So please, I know you baby
I know you baby
So please, I know you baby
I know you baby
I believe, I believe you could love me
But you're lost on the road to misery
And what I gave to you
I could never get back!
Don't complicate it,
Don't drive yourself insane
Yeah,
Say what you will but I know that you want to stay!
So please, I know you baby
I know you baby
So please, I know you baby
I know you baby
Chemicals rushing in,
I know it's you that I belong to
I'm fighting like a cannonball in the air
Crashing into who I belong to
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
I have been patient, but slowly I'm losing faith
Please, I know you baby
I know you baby
So please, I know you baby
I know you baby
So please, I know you baby (The shadows of your heart are hanging in the sweet, sweet air)
I know you baby
So please, I know you baby (The secrets that you hide, control us and it's just not fair)
I know you baby
The shadows of your heart are hanging in the sweet, sweet air (I know you baby)
I know you baby
The secrets that you hide, control us and it's just not fair (I know you baby)
I know you baby
" Days ache and nights are long
Two years and still, you're not gone
Guess I'm still holding on
Drag my name through the dirt
Somehow it doesn't hurt though
Guess you're still holding on
You told your friends you want me dead
And said that I did everything wrong
And you're not wrong
Well, I'll take all the vitriol
But not the thought of you moving on
'Cause I'm not ready
To find out you know how to forget me
I'd rather hear how much you regret me
And pray to God that you never met me
Than forget me
Oh, I hate to know I made you cry
But love to know I cross your mind, babe, oh, I
Even aftеr all, it'd still wreck me
To find out you'd know how to forget mе
Even after all this time
Days ache and nights are grey
My heart is still your place, babe
Guess I still feel the same
Know you can't stand my face
Some scars you can't erase, babe
Guess you still feel the same
Well, I'll take all the vitriol
But not the thought of you moving on
'Cause I'm not ready
To find out you know how to forget me
I'd rather hear how much you regret me
And pray to God that you never met me
Than forget me
Oh, I hate to know I made you cry
But love to know I cross your mind, babe, oh, I
Even after all, it'd still wreck me
To find out you'd know how to forget me
Even after all this time
I'm not ready to let you forget me
To let you forget me, to let you for—, oh
I'm not ready to let you forget me
To let you forget me, to let you for—, oh (even after all this time)
I'm not ready to let you forget me
To let you forget me, to let you for—, oh
I'm not ready to let you forget me
To let you forget me, to let you for—, oh
'Cause I'm not ready
