can you believe this is how they came?! we didn't have to do anything!

I wonder how often the bagel slicer at work gets cleaned properly. Probably not very often.

Michael found a fancy-looking whisk at What's Cookin, a kitchen store in Port Townsend, Washington.

I <3 Gourmet Warehouse. The only problem is that I always want to buy everything! Here's a small peek at their vast offerings!

A friend gifted me this professional mandolin, as she and her husband had several of them when they unloaded their container after moving here. It takes a while to get the hang of this thing but once you do it really is a time saver unless you get carried away and add a fingertip to the salad fixins.

I thought it looked like the offspring of a Lava Lamp and a cheese grater. But it's something called a "vertical roaster."

Today is the first time this summer the cherry pitter came out of the bottom kitchen drawer. It won't be the last -- we like stewed cherries on oatmeal for breakfast and sweetened cherries for dessert (these are sour cherries - quite tart).

Our Daily Challenge: CHOOSE YOUR OWN TOPIC

This is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets ever - got it at Target a few years ago and think it's a particularly well designed one. The weight of the handles and press makes it easy to put enough pressure in and the peg attachment on the other side makes it easy to get out the remains, recrush it, and clean it thoroughly.

This is my thought for the BBC kitchen gadget group 2... (I had to compete with Flossies removable toast, so mine has removable lettuce leaves!) I used screen window fabric for the wire mesh... I am going to make a few improvements, but I think this will be it!!!

I have displayed several old kitchen gadgets that belonged to my Mom ,Aunt, and Grandmother. Jar opener, not sure? I think it was used to pull food out of oil or water.

Potato Masher? Long tonged fork.

Here's the finished block loaded with 4-5 pieces of lettuce! Freshly rinsed and drained... Made for Group 2/kitchen gadgets theme, BBC, Bitty Block Committee.

When I saw the dietician last Friday she said that, as I cannot eat salad or raw veggies, I could get vegetables with my lunch by making soups. Today I bought a soup maker to take to Christchurch with me. I also bought a small, wide mouthed thermos. I want to take my lunch to the hospital in the morning and eat it in the park after my 'dive' session.

I tried the soup maker (which also makes smoothies) to see how easy it was. I used some peppers that were lurking int he veggie drawer, a small potato, chicken stock and some onion powder. It was delicious and a good consistency.

For day 155 of photochallenge.org's photochallenge (sorry I missed the first 154). This is looking through the big holes at the small holes.

This little guy's very cute, but there's something moderately disturbing about a chick mutilating an egg.

Wayne Canning demonstrating new kitchen tools from Trudeau at Fulford's "Perfect Event" - Christmas 2011

I grew up eating many steamed-vegetables-with-cheese-on-top dinners, thanks to one of these little contraptions.

It was a very handy gadget back before microwave ovens became more common than fleas on a dog, and I think it'll come in handy again in my kitchen.

I hadn't had one of these for years, and for some reason they seemed hard to find. And then I found two sizes of them today in Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I guess I just wasn't looking hard enough, eh?

Here's to something more healthy than the cupcake dog that was my 365 two days ago.
