An oddly-focused photo of my favorite new kitchen gadget - the apple peeler! It took everything in my power not to peel all of the apples and potatoes in the house just for fun.
Also, please excuse the clutter in the background. Our counter space is the size of my dishwasher and a set of drawers, so we have to make do. Although our first apartment in Chicago had zero (that's right, zero, and in none, zilch, nada) counter space, so this is a huge improvement. Plus - dishwasher!
We got a super sweet deal on a brand new Keurig. I wasn't sure if we were going to keep it, but after one day of tasty warm treats from this wonderful machine....it's staying!

This just goes to show the depth of the bottomless pit of curious photos taking up space on my computer: Here we have images of Feemster's Famous Vegetable Slicer; up next is Ron Popeil's Veg-O-Matic. Items I saw in thrift stores β taken a year apart, though β and I'd forgotten about both of them until I came across them tonight. Now they're here, for all to enjoy, and finally off my hard drive!
Like the Veg-O-Matic, I was enchanted by this thing, but even at the low, low price of $1.95, I didn't buy it. I kinda wish I did. I mean, it was less than two bucks! What was I thinking?! The liver spots on the hand model alone (presumably Mrs. Feemster) was worth the price!

Dad's out of hospital & sounding lonely. When I phoned, he'd just finished what he could eat of a barely edible lunch of hot dogs he'd cooked with fried onions he'd badly burned. "Doesn't matter" he said, "I can't taste anything." He accepted our invitation to dinner & said he'd come earlier to enjoy the sun on our deck.
I spent the rest of the morning & afternoon cooking & baking & although my back was screaming in pain, I was happy & oh-SO-grateful that he was well enough to drive here, spend this time with us. I enjoyed every minute of this day & evening - "the memory has been bottled" as my Mom used to say. I have many, many bottles!
