Kitchen benchtop clutter with a broken pedestal bowl knocked over by Millie, my tabby cat, that awaits repair - if possible!
completely renovated, new maple cabinetry and granite-style countertops. stainless steel appliances and nice-sized window. We will be adding an open pantry shelf unit and an island prep station ASAP.
Back on the job today after a two week wait for granite to be fabricated. Tops are installed....tomorrow the plumbers and electricians will be there to hook up all of the appliances, sink, faucet, etc. The clients will have a functional kitchen for the weekend!

Kitchen tiling complete, shelves up, cabinet doors repainted...We used whatever wood we had salvaged from the cabinets we took down or any I had lying around in garage. It was like a puzzle Max said and quite fun to figure out where everything would fit! The green wood supports were originally metal ones that looked like they belonged in the garage so I spent my last $100 buying wooden ones and painting and stenciling them so it had more charm. I went hungry but I got the supports I wanted!
Like you'd expect, the small kitchen was completely packed while other rooms with actual chairs and such were completely empty.
We started with getting a new fridge. Here is our old lady, she's been part of our lives for over 26 years - Farwell old friend :D

Kitchener Memorial, Marwick Head, Orkney
In June 1916, Lord Kitchener was dispatched on a diplomatic mission to Russia. Russia's military campaign was going badly on the Eastern Front, and there were concerns among the Allies that Russia would pull out of the war altogether.
Kitchener and his staff sailed to Archangel from Scapa Flow in Orkney aboard the HMS Hampshire, whixch had just survived the Battle of Jutland. Shortly after getting underway, on the 5th June 1916,the Hampshire found herself steering into the teeth of a Force 9 gale. To avoid the battering of the elements, the captain steered the ship as close to the north west coast of the Orkney mainland as he could. This action was to prove disastrous as the Hampshire was destroyed.
She had struck one of several mines laid by the German minelaying submarine U-75 on 28/29 May 1916. The detonation had holed the cruiser between bows and bridge, and the lifeboats were smashed against the side of the ship by the heavy seas when they were lowered. About 15 minutes after the explosion, Hampshire sank by the bow. Of the 735 crewmembers and 14 passengers aboard, only 12 crew survived after coming ashore on three Carley floats. A total of 737 were lost including Kitchener and all the members of the mission to Russia.
The 48 feet high Kitchener Memorial, now a listed building, was erected in 1926 by the people of Orkney to commemorate Lord Kitchener and the crew of HMS Hampshire. The memorial, a square tower with battered walls of coursed rubble, sits atop the cliffs keeping watch over the final resting place of the hundreds of men lost to the sea.
In 2016 an arc-shaped HMS Hampshire commemorative wall was added alongside the memorial. The wall is of local stone, inlaid with granite on which the names of all 737 men lost are engraved.

Had the chance to chat with Tama Matsuoka Wong (Foraged Flavor and forager for Daniel) about her garden foraged finds around Mad Maple despite the freak dump of snow the day of our arrival (a foot!). Although Matsuoka Wong noted it was limited to the periphery of the property, she did source a number of interesting herbs and plants (is that too basic a term?) that were used in that evening's dinner.

Cimmy & I finally got this done, after procrastinating it for SO long. So, we should have less brooms, mops, etc. in the way now.
One of the first shots I took this evening in my kitchen with my new 18mm f2 XF-mount lens on the X-Pro 1.
Totally loving it.
A shot that shows the color sorting in the kitchen shelf... White and Silver on top, Jadite/mint greens in the middle, and butter yellows on the bottom shelf. I hung the antique hand mixer up to break up all the white by the window.
My last week in London I moved over to Islington into a really nice apartment - and it had a real kitchen! I was so excited to finally be able to reall cook again.
