Wanted to try some low key work. Shoot through umbrella strobe to the right 1/16th, snooted strobe 1/4 power to the left to light the smoke. Originally planned for the soft light to be the main, but the snooted strobe has also made some specular highlights of the candle and the holder. More by luck than judgement, this has given the whole thing some good depth and contrast.
I've been gathering skeleton keys lately, both imitation and actual ones. Trying to figure out how incorporate them in my upcoming images poetically, which must be completed very soon... and appear on www.chalajan.com

Hiking through Quarry Hill Park and came across this "Key Tree" No idea what the story is on it, someone's art project? Just a lot of keys hanging by fishingline

Alicia Keys performing exclusively for BBC Radio 1Xtra & an audience of less than 100 competition winners. She did a set of classics including Falling, Superwoman, You Don't Know My Name, Teenage Lover Affair, plus Sleeping With a Broken Heart & Doesn't Mean Anything from her new album Element Of Freedom.
The session & interview will be broadcast on 1Xtra & Radio 1 with Trevor Nelson from 7pm on Saturday 23rd January 2010. For more info check out the 1Xtra website.
The BBC's Maida Vale studios have hosted some of the world's finest musicians, from The Beatles to Dizzee Rascal. In 2009 the BBC celebrated 75 years of Maida Vale. It's also a maze to navigate, & I get lost everytime I'm in the building.

A somewhat literal take on the idea of low key, as this is the 'lowest' key on the electronic keyboard...
