Great colorful kayaks in Rockport harbor.

glided silently past campsites after sunset in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Though they made a nice picture, they gave us the creeps.

Yesterday we took our kayaks out for the first time this season, and I brought along my SLR 680. The weather was perfect! We paddled and floated around for a few hours, then drove home and made margaritas and bbq'ed chicken on the grill. It was a lovely spring day!

His first kayak ride. He did really well and I think he enjoyed it!

Kayak fishing in Scotland is becoming more and more popular . Only a few years back , a handful of kayak fishers would venture out in open sea , today we have a team . Every week we are exploring some new areas and this week we decided to head to the east coast of Scotland . A friend of mine really wanted to join us and try kayak fishing and I was able to invite him on the spare kayak . Late afternoon , early evening we arrived on the scenic beach , unloaded the yaks and straight we paddled out in the open sea . The sea was comfortable ,four of us well out enjoying the sun setting .Stuart was well into the mackerel first drop , and like a fish magnet he was hauling them in .New Ronnie was still afloat and I was glad to see him play his very first cod . Tam hooked into a light coloured cod as the light was fading . Midnight out at sea on the kayaks catching some fish makes our hearts ticks .Cod catching for me was null so I opted for mackerel with a string of feathers and the sport began .We headed back to the beach camp , Ronnie shook my hand and I could tell he really enjoyed himself out there .We all sat on the bench with some fishing stories to tell and then straight to sleep . Next morning more kayakers joined us early and I was amazed to count 11 fishers ready to paddle out . In small groups we headed out in the comfortable fishing zone with depth averaging 40 to 70 ft .Everyone was having fun ,couple of cod to lb 5 came to light , many more mackerel , I mean many ! Some ling , Wrasse and pollock also .The weather was great , not even warm and the sea nice and flat . It was great to see so many kayaks on the water enjoying some fine summer fishing , And I guess Ronnie will never forget his first day sitting on the kayak hauling and releasing plenty of fish .Till next trip .Tight lines all .Nicolas

Kayaking at Tjärnö in Bohuslän, Sweden. This was during a field-stay at Tjärnö marine biological laboratory at the Swedish west-coast, the stay was a part of a course in marine biology. I didn't have my eos 30D back then, but used a compact digital camera that i had borrowed from my dad.

Out for a paddle.

The 1000mm focal length makes the kayaker look closer than he is. However, the pelicans were correct to move.

Unlike geese and some other large birds taking off from water, they don't run on the water, instead they leap, two feet at a time and push off with both feet over and over. You can see that a bit here.

Today was Joshua’s first day on the kayak . We are not very good at predicting the weather so we choose a rainy day and for good measure we went scenic , somewhere we have never fished before .

Group fishing on wild waters is always reassuring , new comers can join with added knowledge and safety .

Since today was Josh’s Day , the young man made it special . We only paddled a few yards and in the corner of my eye I saw him bending that rod .The first fish was on . The humble perch smashed his lure , simple !.

A few seconds later I shouted fish on , the Daiwa Ninja Lrf combo was working a treat , so smooth , light , combined with the spiky fox shad I was ready for action .

Nick , Iain , Tony and myself all dropped anchors all working different techniques out for the Perch .

The soft lures worked well . We then on sheltered under that tree already soaked to the bones . Little snack to eat and then back out again . The small burn entering the loch looked promising . The deep ledge surely would provide some action .

Ledgering close in with a single maggot Tony hooked into a specimen perch , a big handful striped warrior . I manage a quick photo and he gently release the beast .

Early afternoon fishing went quiet for a while , we then paddle across the loch looking for more action .

Josh was playing tricks on his dropshot , a little tiny soft worms played inches from the bottom was having demolishing affect . Fish on , fish on fish on .

A spell of dryness suddenly appeared in the sky . Quick change of soft shad I was hoping for a bigger fish . Around the corner Josh missed a good fish , I casted promptly and bang on , his fish suddenly became mine .

We went for perch and we got perch . I know they can taste good and so blabla we released them all .

Josh first adventure on the water was a success and I guess he will do very well in those years to come . Born to fish .

Rolling my Mamba kayak on the River Thurso in April 2019. I should have pushed my paddle out of the water and did

a wider sweep on the surface, for a more effective roll. Also keep my head down for a moment longer before flicking up the kayak.
