My niece asked me to make this for her 3rd birthday. The bottom cake is chocolate and vanilla cake with cannoli filling. Covered in buttercream flavored fondant.
Kai-Lan head is 4 layers of chocolate cake with chocolate chocolate chip buttercream filling. Also covered in vanilla flavored fondant. This cake was 100% edible!

A nice overview of Hong Kong's old Kai Tak airport. Its small size is readily apparent here - that's pretty much the whole airport at the time except for the runway, although the south apron development (to the right of this shot) did add quite a bit of extra space when it was completed in 1993. The limited apron area and relatively few gates (most of which were remote) meant that high capacity aircraft were the norm; almost every aircraft visible here is a wide-body, and over half are Boeing 747s...!
Although I don't actually remember going there, this was almost certainly taken from Quarry Hill (Red Light Hill), the highest point in South Kowloon, so named for the red aircraft warning beacon on the top of the hill when Kai Tak was operational. Although taken around sunset, that's actually the rising moon visible just above the hill on the right, not the setting sun; the sun was behind me.

Kai is Hawaiian for "the sea/ocean," so in honor of his name's origins, I brought a little wrist lei and let him wear it a while. It didn't hurt him, don't worry!
