Some more beautiful colors tonight during sunset over the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse along the Loxahatchee River waterway. HDR image created using Lightroom and Aurora HDR software.
Well I was supposed to be in Gainesville today but those plans canceled while I was almost there. I u-turned in Orlando, head out to Viera to take bird photos, and on the way down, stopped by Jupiter to finally get my night shots of the lighthouse.

Once thought to be built on a Indian mound, but which is now determined to b natural parabolic sand dune. The top of the 105 tower tower is 153 foot. above sea level. There is a museum and you can take a tour to the top. You can see people at the top in this photo.

Always wanted to photograph the shuttle launch from this area too bad they stop operations but I still have the rocket launches. This one was the Falcon 9 Space Rocket Launch from Cape Canaveral at the Jupiter Lighthouse.

This has got to be my best Jupiter Lighthouse shot to date. Today was a super clear evening, making it a perfect night for a full moon rise shoot. I would have liked some clouds in the image, but with clouds there's always a chance of the moon disappearing behind them. Regardless I'm still very happy with the final result of this photo. No HDR with this photo, I'll do an HDR of it later, but I don't think it could get any better than this. The only processing done were minor ones other than that it was a straight shot.
Specs for exposure was 100-400mm@340mm, f/20@2s, ISO400 shot with a Canon 5DMK2.
Thanks to my new favorite software The Photographer's Ephemeris I was able to pin point the location of the moon rise. This aided me in finding the best place to shoot during the moon rise with perfect accuracy. It also tracks sunrises and sunsets as well as moon set. What a great piece of software!

So another wonderful Holiday comes to a close. I like these kind. No mass commercialism, no fanfare (except for the parade I guess), no excessive late night party......just real people sharing real feelings. Gratitude and thanks, definitely something that we all (especially us Americans) seem to take for granted on a daily basis.
I definitely have a lot to be grateful for. I blogged about it last year, and to be honest, I still mean every word of it. Here is the link....

My real focus this evening I guess is one of my vision or shall I say, my wish for the future. Making a difference in the world seems to be a tune that has been resonating a lot in the world recently. Perhaps it has always been playing softly in the background, but I have just started to allow myself to hear its precious melody. A reminder of what is possible was quite evident to me this evening as I tuned into CNN's Hero special out of the corner of my eye as I got a little caught up on some work. To be honest with you, it was kind of a slap in the face to me as to what is really possible. I have been grappling lately with this concept of giving without ANYTHING in return. To give with your heart, mind, and sole for the sole purpose of making real resonant change in the world (or at least to a small part of it.) Sure, that has a lot to do with why we all want to be great parents, but beyond that, and especially after watching that show...I know that I have so much more to give. Finding what that is exactly continues to be a journey.
We all want to leave our mark in this world. I guess its only appropriate to realize, except, and harness that feeling when it hits you. I am sure that I will continue to find ways to make a difference....in my life, my families, and the world around me....and for that, I am sincerely thankful!

I had an urge to head out this evening to chase the light. I must have looked like a nut case heading out with 2 camera body's and tripods as it was pouring rain in West Palm Beach. According to the weather online, there was no rain in the area.....hmmm, go figure. Up north about 30 minutes or so, I had a feeling that the weather might break up a bit.
The Jupiter Inlet has a special place in my heart. Having spent my high school and early college years in this area, there were many memories to recall as I perched myself up on the inlet rocks to catch a view of the evening light. I set up one camera with a fisheye to capture a time-lapse of the water and fading light as I crawled around like a kid looking for just the right place to capture the mood of the evening. With a little Jami Sieber on the Ipod, the mood was perfect. Too bad that feeling had to come to a close so fast.
Its funny how people can be in the same beautiful place and mentally be in completely opposite places. As I was in my truck reviewing a few images and still listening to the cinematic music with one of the ear pieces, the other ear was picking up on some voices of a crowd of kids that seemed to be getting louder by the minute. It was when I backed out of the parking spot and glanced in my rear view mirror that my serene mood of the evening was shattered. It seems that the rowdy group had kicked it up a notch as the mob appeared to be in full rumble. Arms were flying, legs were kickin, hair was being pulled, ...... a full on chaotic confrontation ensued as the mass seemed to be beating the crap out of each other! WTF is going on! What happened to my peaceful inlet that our family used to enjoy when I was a kid? I hope its there the next time I visit :(

As I mentioned a couple of nights ago, I didn't get a lot of images I was happy with out of the camera from the photowalk. I originally intended to attack this outing with one body and one lense, but soon modified that approach. At the last minute I decided to drag out the infrared D200 as well. I guess dragging around 2 cameras flapping about along with a tripod might have had something to do with my lack of vision and clarity, I don't know. I kinda like this one though, but also intend to do a little more with it. Look for this one again someday, but for now, its shut eye time. A long day today with a long, long, long day ahead tomorrow.....
