My tried and true traveling companion, Vic Lines, better know as "The Alco Safaris", here on Flickr, made his way across the pond in June, and when he's in the neighborhood, it's my job to scrounge up a tour to keep him true to his handle.
Over a three day period, we managed to do quite well capitalizing on several Alco roads and models that ply the rails in western New York, including two GVT lines, the LA&L, The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum and the latest Alco road, the Arcade & Attica. The AA runs freight but once per week and when they gave word that they would be running, I didn't have to twist Vic's arm to make the trip down there!
Although we dealt with some rather extreme heat for the month of June, all was cool with Alcos constantly viewed in our camera lenses!
Here we get the prime scenic spot along the AA as their RS3m(u) approach North Java, NY.

I took this shot last June, I've tried many times since to crop it and keep it's size as the original, but i can still not manage it!!
At the time i was shooting only RAW.
Still not givin up on the crop, as i like the idea, just taking my time to figure it out. TorrrrToissssse

The three other cats were gathered at the front window this morning but Little Miss decided she wanted her own space to watch the birds and settled in at the back window to enjoy her entertainment.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

After a fantastic wedding day, honeymoon and then a manic week at school with another Ofsted inspection and GCSE Coursework deadline, I have decided to get back on the flickr trail with an image that I composed last weekend. Waking up at 5.00am, I slipped out of the house, got in my car, and sped west along the A50 to one of my poppy hotspots at Ingleby. This is an area that almost guarantees poppies every year - though they never re-appear in the same fields two years running. The sun was already gaining quite a bit of strength and burning the mist in the Trent Valley beyond this field. The sun's brightness was such that I decided to half position it behind the tree branches to diffuse the light, yet also take advantage of the backlighting on the poppy heads. A 0.9 hard ND grad held in the colour of the sky and helped to enhance the silhouette of the trees.
Back to our own seafront now, in Southsea. JJ and I went for a walk with good buddy, Southsea Dave. You can see a bit of South Parade Pier in the background -hopefully one day it will be open to the public again!!!
Good luck for Monday, Dave!
I was thinking of flipping this vertically, then realized the duck would drown if I did :)
