Jumping sticks are a very thin type of grasshopper (family Proscopiidae). They look remarkably like stick insects, until up close you see they have jumping legs like a grasshopper and this noble visage, which is unmistakably grasshoppery, if a grasshopper went through a taffy-pulling machine. Jump photos are so much fun haha, but also quite exhausting.
PRESS L it looks better on a darker background
A small (5 mm) juvenile jumping spider - Phidippus sp., I think either P. audax or adumbratus. Despite the fact that it's missing three legs, it still managed to catch its dinner. It will be able to regenerate its lost limbs over the next couple of molts.

Anterior median eyes (the pair of eyes in the center front) are comparatively very large and give these spiders excellent color vision and high degree of resolution. The shape of the retinae appears to give the spider telephoto vision.

This female African penguin caught my attention mostly because of her appearance. She's going through a "catastrophic molt," making her look puffy and unkempt. It's all quite normal!
As for the jump, she decided not to.

It was Jaymi's idea to do a jumping week, for her 365 photos this week. She is happy that she can jump again. As of yesterday, she can run and jump and even (somewhat) balance on one foot!
She keeps asking us if she can go outside and practice running. ;)
The Magic Donkey picked one of my photos as #1 - in Explore. It is the first time I have ever been number one, now I think the photo has already dropped....easy come -easy go!
It's a bit blurred but I was only about 10 feet away and had just faced up to him with my lens before he hopped off. I was eager to catch a kangaroo on my recent trip to Oz but didn't expect to catch one in flight....!!!
An adult male Bold Jumper (Phidippus audax) on native Western Columbine (Aquilegia formosa) in my garden.
Just in time for Arachtober, I spotted my first and last specimen of Phidippus arizonensis for this year. This male was on a trail through shortgrass prairie that will soon become another housing development in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. October 9, 2019.
Flickr friend, Charles Hardin invited me to tag along to a new location, Jumping Off Rock, in upstate South Carolina. It offers a great view of Lake Jocassee. Coupled with autumn colors and it was a scene that was hard to beat.
