US Senate Joins House in Call for Review of Venezuela PDVSA Deal with Russia's Rosneft over Citgo
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- After an investigation by the Latin American Herald Tribune (LAHT) helped uncover the transaction in December and testimony by LAHT editor Russ Dallen before Congress on March 28, Senate leaders have joined House leaders in calling for a CFIUS review of Venezuela's hypothecation of Citgo to Russia's Rosneft.

He currently works as a contributing editor at The Marshall Project and a Journalist in Residence at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. In nearly a decade as a national correspondent, Lowery has specialized in issues of race, justice and law enforcement.
Lowery led the Washington Post team that won the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2016 for the creation and analysis of a real-time database to track fatal police shootings in the United States. Another project, “Murder with Impunity,” an unprecedented look at unsolved homicides in major American cities, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2019. His first book, “They Can’t Kill Us All: Ferguson, Baltimore, and a New Era in America’s Racial Justice Movement,” was a New York Times bestseller and awarded the Los Angeles Times-Christopher Isherwood Prize for Autobiographical Prose. Artemisia Gentileschi
The archangel Gabriel kneels before the Virgin Mary to tell her that she has been chosen to bear the son of God. A cartelino (an illusionistically painted piece of paper) bears the artist's name and the date 1630, the year Artemisia arrived in Naples. Painted in her late thirties, this is the first altarpiece of Artemisia's career (its original destination is unknown). The numerous alterations she made to the compositino imply that painting on this scale clearly presented its challenges.

Artemisia painted subjects that were traditionally the preserve of male artists and for the male gaze; transforming meek maidservants into courageous conspirators and victims into survivors.
In this first major exhibition of Artemisia’s work in the UK, see her best-known paintings including two versions of her iconic and viscerally violent ‘Judith beheading Holofernes’; as well as her self portraits, heroines from history and the Bible, and recently discovered personal letters, seen in the UK for the first time.

Ukraine’s priorities include joining NATO, implementing the decisions of the Alliance's Washington Summit, and jointly intercepting Russian missiles and drones. This was the focus of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s discussion with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during their meeting in Kyiv.
This is Mark Rutte’s first foreign visit as the leader of the North Atlantic Alliance. President Zelenskyy noted that this visit immediately clearly outlines the current priorities, indicating where the defense of shared Euro-Atlantic values is taking place right now.
“Our key goal is Ukraine’s full NATO membership. Ukraine can become the thirty-third member of NATO. Ukrainians deserve this,” said the President.
During the meeting, the parties thoroughly discussed the prospects for cooperation, the Victory Plan and the feasibility of Ukraine's approach to a just end to the war, the situation on the battlefield, and the needs of our units, including weapons and brigade staffing.
“Ukraine needs to strengthen its positions on the frontline so that we can increase pressure on Russia for the sake of fair, real diplomacy. That is why we need a sufficient quantity and quality of weapons, including long-range weapons, the provision of which, in my opinion, is being delayed by our partners,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
A separate focus of the discussion was Ukraine’s air defense needs. It is crucial for Ukraine that all air defense agreements, including those reached at the NATO Summit in Washington this July, are implemented before winter begins. Additionally, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mark Rutte discussed additional cooperation with neighboring countries, drawing on examples from the Middle East.
“Jointly intercepting Iranian missiles is no different from jointly intercepting Russian missiles, and especially "Shaheds," which link the Russian and Iranian regimes. What we need in our region is more determination from our partners to put an end to Russian terror,” the President emphasized.
Mark Rutte noted that, as NATO Secretary General, he will do everything possible to increase support for Ukraine.
“Your security matters for ours. Your fight for freedom reflects our core principles and values,” he said.
According to the NATO Secretary General, member states of the Alliance plan to boost their own defense capabilities and strengthen Ukraine’s defense industry.
“Ukraine is closer to NATO than ever before. And we will continue on this path until you become a member of our Alliance. I very much look forward to that day,” said Mark Rutte.

Pumps in the West India Dock Impounding Station
The Impounding Station was built in 1929 and is used to regulate water levels between the West India and Millwall Docks. The impounding station is the only source of water to West India Docks, outside the tidal run in, and it is in daily use. The Impounding Station is home to three pumps which provide the means for taking water from the River Thames and pumping it into the dock. The pumps are still the original ones installed 85 years ago and are capable of pumping up to 9 cubic metres of water per second. As an illustration of the rate at which the pumps operate, they would fill an Olympic size swimming pool in 9 minutes, and pumps around 4 million tonnes of water each year. The intake pipes draw water from a sump beneath the Impounding Station Building. The outfall pipes pass beneath Marsh Wall Road and their discharge is submerged within the Dock. Trash screens operate whenever the pump is running to protect the pump from debris entering from the river. Debris is discharged into a conveyor belt that empties into a skip. The Canal & River Trust has carried out automation and repairs to the pumps in the Impounding Station in Docklands over the last 12 months. This enables the pump to be operated remotely, although local operation can also be carried out.

Robert Bentley joined babies and their mothers, expectant mothers and state and company officials to announce the Alabama Baby Box Safe Sleep Program at the state Capitol in Montgomery, Ala., Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Alabama is the third state to participate in the program which aims to keep babies in a safe sleep environment and prevent deaths from sudden unexpected infant death syndrome (SUID) and other sleep-related deaths before celebrating their first birthdays. Ron Sparks, Director, Alabama Rural Development Office, initiated bringing the program to the state, hoping to combat Alabama's high infant mortality rate. In 2015, there were 8.3 deaths per 1,000 births in Alabama. State Health Officer Dr. Tom Miller joined Gov. Bentley and Director Sparks to speak about the program. Entrepreneurs Michelle Vick and Jennifer Clary founded the Baby Box Co., which plans to distribute up to 60,000 Baby Boxes in Alabama, ensuring that every expecting family in the state has access to this free resource. Smokey Bear joined Coconino National Forest employees and family members on our parade float at the Flagstaff Holiday of Lights, December 9, 2017. The crew decorated Engine 481 and the 1925 Dodge Brothers truck with holiday lights at the Flagstaff Ranger District, then headed to the staging area on Elm Street north of downtown Flagstaff.
Smokey greeted children with hugs and the crew socialized with local residents while waiting for the parade to begin at 6:00 p.m. As the sun set, parade floats started lighting up in expectation of the main event. Parade floats started heading down Beaver Street towards downtown. Since the Forest Service float was one of the last floats in the parade, the crew was treated to seeing most of the other incredible entries, including a marching band, a Chinese dragon, flaming baton twirlers, and lots and lots of beautiful holiday lights!
The parade moved down Beaver Street into historic downtown Flagstaff. Smokey Bear was greeted by endless cheers, and the crowd shouted out greetings like "happy holidays!" and "thank you for all your hard work!" The parade turned on Aspen Street, moving past historic locations like the Orpheum Theater, Weatherford Hotel, and the Hotel Monte Vista. The parade turned up San Francisco Street to make its way out of the downtown area.

Joined in Love is a small bronze sculpture showing the nurturing of a mommy dolphin and the lessons about to be learned by her baby. Created and sculpted entirely in wax by artist Joseph Quillan. Cast in bronze and completley finished from beginning to end in the U.S.
These were the most obliging and accomodating fish you can imagine - they let me join their school and get right in amongst them without breaking formation! It was a real thrill, and I encountered them on several occasions and they were like, "oh well, come on then!" I have lots of photos of them, to come........
