CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today was joined by Chicago Alderman Pat Dowell to announce an honorary street named for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, an Illinois native. The street - Wabash at the intersection of 53rd Street – is near where Governor Patrick grew up and has been unveiled as “Honorary Gov. Deval Patrick Ave.”

Viaduct Basin (often Viaduct Harbour) is a former commercial harbour on the Auckland waterfront, now turned into a development of mostly upscale apartments,office space and restaurants. It is located on the site of a formerly run-down area of the Freemans Bay / Auckland CBD waterfront in Auckland City, New Zealand. As a centre of activity of the 2000 America's Cup hosted by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the area enjoyed considerable popularity with locals and foreign visitors.
Viaduct Harbour hosts many fabulous events including the past America’s Cup defences, Louis Vuitton Regattas, the Volvo Round the World Race stopover March 2012.
The Auckland metropolitan area in the North Island of New Zealand, is the largest and most populous urban area in the country with 1,377,200 residents, 31 percent of the country's population.
Auckland has the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world. In Māori Auckland's names are Tāmaki Makaurau, and the transliterated version of Auckland, Ākarana.
Auckland lies between the Hauraki Gulf of the Pacific Ocean to the east, the low Hunua Ranges to the south-east, the Manukau Harbour to the south-west, and the Waitakere Ranges and smaller ranges to the west and north-west. The central part of the urban area occupies a narrow isthmus between the Manukau Harbour on the Tasman Sea and the Waitemata Harbour on the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the few cities in the world to have harbours on two separate major bodies of water.

The first event of 2016 in the Salon Series jointly organized by the the U.S. Mission’s Future She Deserves initiative and Women@TheTable explored “Men & Boys, Women & Girls: Preventing Gender-Based Violence.” Ambassador Pamela Hamamoto urged participants to act as catalysts for change, focusing the collective expertise of International Geneva on addressing a global epidemic that represents a public health and human rights concern for every country. "Gender based violence knows no social, economic, or national boundaries," Ambassador Hamamoto said. "It's a human rights violation, a public health challenge, but also a barrier to civic, social, political and economic participation."
The group was joined by Nazir Afzal, OBE, former Chief Crown Prosecutor for the North West of England, a global leader on child protection and violence against women and girls. Afzal emphasized that working to prevent violence is every bit as essential as prosecution. “Fifteen years ago I realized that prosecution was actually a failure. Because by the time you prosecute somebody, somebody has been harmed.” Educating children that women’s rights are human rights needs to start much earlier, ideally in kindergarten, Afzal stressed. “Until such time as we educate it out, working with as young people as possible, we are going to have this issue for generations and generations.”

Hundreds joined us for Avant Garden 2017, the Walker Art Center’s annual benefit and crowning event in a summerlong celebration of the expanded Walker campus and transformed Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. The evening was a signature Walker party experience complete with gourmet food, craft cocktails, premier art auction, and DJ Jazzy Jeff to top off the night. Photos by Courtney Perry for the Walker.

Joined by First Lady Carla Markell, House Speaker Pete Schwartzkopf and other legislators, members of the Delaware Botanic Gardens Board of Directors and others, Governor Markell delivers remarks and participatse in the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Delaware Botanic Gardens. Upon completion, the Delaware Botanic Gardens site will span over 37 acres and add thousands of new trees, shrubs, vines and plants to the former farmland area. The site will offer a host of activities and interactive programs to include walking tours, educational classes, art in the landscape, and weddings in the gardens.

Delaware Governor John Carney joined New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer, Delaware State Housing Authority Director Anas Ben Addi, Wilmington Field Office Director Maria Bynum and other officials for the First State’s annual Point-in-Time Count. Every January, volunteers and community partners gather to conduct a snapshot of people who are experiencing homelessness. The PIT Count is an important opportunity for communities to better understand and address homelessness. The Governor and three of his Cabinet Secretaries met at the Wilmington launch site as teams, organized by Housing Alliance Delaware, conducted counts statewide.
