Yep, I joined Flickr 2 years ago today :) Can't believe it was that long ago! When I first joined, I'd only had Barney a couple of months, was still getting to know him and photography wasn't really a hobby but having taken one or two nice-ish photos of him, thought I'd join and upload them mainly as a way of keeping a copy (in case my laptop unexpectedly keeled over and died, as they are prone to doing sometimes!).
I never, ever imagined I'd meet so many lovely friends from all over the world on here... or that so many people would be interested in following my second hand border collie's adventures and enjoy looking at my photos! I wanted to say thanks very much for all the kind, encouraging and thoughtful comments I've received here since joining: about my photos, my writing and simply on Barney in general :)
Anyway, hope you're all still enjoying seeing (and reading about) Barney, (and Dilly dog, and Miss Elsie cat from time to time). I know I'm still having a great time seeing everyone else's amazing photos which continue to astound and inspire me on a regular basis! I've known some of you ages now, and there are others I'm just getting to know - I always look forward to looking at all my contacts' latest photos - and others' photos too (even if my commenting is a bit intermittent atm I am still looking!!). Looking forward to the next 2yrs...

Everyone knows Instagram is the best place to style stalk (and wedding stalk, but that's another story). So we were pretty thrilled to learn that one of fashion's biggest icons is joining the social media app in a very fashion-forward way.
She's tall, blonde, wears many hats, drives a sweet pink Corvette, and at 55, she hasn't aged one bit. Yep, Barbie is on Instagram, and she's going to New York Fashion Week. She'll be staying at The Standard (duh) while in New York and will be traveling with the fashion pack to London, Milan, and Paris.
ut you don’t have to be front row to see her. You can follow her @BarbieStyle to see what she’s loving on the runways, who she hangs out with (Cara???), and what her go-to NYFW survival kit includes. (We have a feeling it is sure to include ELLE's September issue, but we may be biased. #BarbieStyle

Nikon D810 Photos Pro Women's Surfing Sports Photography Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD !
I shot in DX mode which crops away the extra pixels and takes me 1.5X closer while allowing for up to 7 FPS with the Nikon D810's Nikon MB-D12 Battery Grip using the 8 AA battery option! 8 Duracells took me through around 3,000 shots no problem--maybe more! I was shooting at the equivalent of 900mm with the 1.5x crop factor! Pretty close! Had I gone with the Nikon D4s, I would have gotten 12 fps, but no DX crop factor, as the sensor has only around 24mp, compared to the d810's 36 megapixels! Sure the larger pixel size on the Nikon D4s full frame sensor comes in handy indoors or at night, but in the bright sun, there's more than enough light for the smaller pixels in crop mode! Sure we lose some pixels from the outer edges when shooting in DX crop mode, but most of those pixels would be cropped away in Lightroom anyway. And the smaller files make the memory cards last longer, while also upping the FPS to 7 shots per second! Not quite 12 FPS, but still awesome and enough I felt!
What a beautiful way to test the Nikon D810 and Tamron 150-600mm zoom lens for sports photography!

View your artistic mission into photography as an epic odyssey of heroic poetry! Take it from Homer in Homer's Odyssey: "Tell me, O muse, of that ingenious hero who travelled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Troy. Many cities did he visit, and many were the nations with whose manners and customs he was acquainted; moreover he suffered much by sea while trying to save his own life and bring his men safely home; but do what he might he could not save his men, for they perished through their own sheer folly in eating the cattle of the Sun-god Hyperion; so the god prevented them from ever reaching home. Tell me, too, about all these things, O daughter of Jove, from whatsoever source you may know them. " --Samuel Butler Translation of Homer's Odyssey
All the best on your Epic Hero's Odyssey from Johnny Ranger McCoy!
Join my wife and me on a trip to Bathurst and return. Really pleasant. Arranged by the Australian Railway Historical Society to celebrate its 90th year. The outward journey was in the back two carriages of the Dubbo XPT, the journey back was on a special train arranged by the Lachlan Valley Railway hauled by two heritage diesels and the local Lithgow to Central train - an V-set. We were to have the four back carriages but a car related incident down the line, caused its cancellation - never mind, we travelled on a standard
Great fun was had particularly inspecting the Bathurst Railway Museum.

The Philippine tarsier, (Tarsius syrichta) is very peculiar small animal. In fact it is one of the smallest known primates, no larger than a adult men's hand. Mostly active at night, it lives on a diet of insects. Folk traditions sometimes has it that tarsiers eat charcoal, but actually they retrieve the insects from (sometimes burned) wood. It can be found in the islands of Samar, Leyte, Bohol, and Mindanao in the Philippines.
The Philippine tarsier is a tiny animal, measuring about 85 to 160 millimetres (3.35 to 6.30 in) in height makes this one of the smallest primates. The small size makes it difficult to spot. The mass for males is between 80 and 160 grams, usually lighter for females. The average adult is about the size of a human fist and will fit very comfortably in the human hand. Like all tarsiers, the Philippine tarsier's eyes are fixed in its skull; they cannot turn in their sockets. Instead, a special adaptation in the neck allows its round head to be rotated 180 degrees. The large membranous ears are mobile, appearing to be almost constantly moving, allowing the tarsier to hear any movement. It has uniquely large eyes, the largest eyes on any mammal in proportion to its body size. These huge eyes provide this nocturnal animal with excellent night vision.
"The world's smallest monkey" is an often heard slogan. However, it is not a monkey. In truth, its classification is somewhat problematic. Some scientists consider tarsiers to be a taxonomic suborder among the primates. While, because they are closely related to lemurs, lorises and bushbabies, others classify them with the prosimians to which these animals belong. Monkeys and apes belong to the suborder of anthropoids.
One way or the other, it is incredibly cute little animal and for me it will always be animal incaration of Jedi Yoda from the Star Wars.
