I've been there at New Year's Eve and a few days before too and found out that the celestial pole is right above the mountains form that POV there, so I spontaneously used the first day of this year for another long exposure session. Luckily we got clear blue starry skies for a few hours in the evening.

Usually I don't take any close up shot, but I loved the details of this waterfall.
I photographed it in the Botanical garden of Gothenburg, in Sweden.
To create the soft effect of the water I used a 10 stop filter.

Europe - Germany - Deutschland - Saxony - Sachsen - Saxon Switzerland National Park - Sächsische Schweiz - Hilly climbing area around the Elbe valley - Elbe/Labe Sandstone Mountains - Bizarre & intriguing landscape with huge, smooth rocks & deep, narrow valleys & gorges - Bastei - Rock formation towering 194 metres above the Elbe River
This is one of those extremely famous viewpoints on the iconic Bastei bridge among rocks. Unfortunately it is also extremely small and only 3-4 photographers can stand there next to each other, so getting to the "front row" is really tricky and you need to be there very very early. Compared to my previous post, this one was taken earlier this week, with many many photographers around as autumn colors are wonderful now as was the weather forecast for those few days. Very different atmosphere with lots of fog from the Elbe river valley.

The Khor Virap - Խոր Վիրապ, meaning deep pit or "deep well" is an Armenian Apostolic Church monastery located in the Ararat plain in Armenia, near the border with Turkey, about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of Artashat, Ararat Province. The monastery was host to a theological seminary and was the residence of Armenian Catholicos.
If there is a single place/shot I have seen and wanted to see with my own eyes in Armenia, it must be the Khor Virap Monastery standing in front of biblical Mt. Ararat. To get this shot I had to visit this place 3 times and even the 3rd time I had to wait for some time to get this wonderful light. Travel photography is fun, however not always rewarding with the best light the first time you visit the location, however when you have the luxury of time and have a chance to come back thanks to proper planning, you might be rewarded with shot like this (Although Mt. Ararat is still partly hiding behind those clouds).

The constellation of Virgo (The Virgin) is especially rich in galaxies, due in part to the presence of a massive and gravitationally-bound collection of over 1300 galaxies called the Virgo Cluster. One particular member of this cosmic community, NGC 4388, is captured in this image, as seen by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3). Located some 60 million light-years away, NGC 4388 is experiencing some of the less desirable effects that come with belonging to such a massive galaxy cluster. It is undergoing a transformation, and has taken on a somewhat confused identity. While the galaxy’s outskirts appear smooth and featureless, a classic feature of an elliptical galaxy, its centre displays remarkable dust lanes constrained within two symmetric spiral arms, which emerge from the galaxy’s glowing core — one of the obvious features of a spiral galaxy. Within the arms, speckles of bright blue mark the locations of young stars, indicating that NGC 4388 has hosted recent bursts of star formation. Despite the mixed messages, NGC 4388 is classified as a spiral galaxy. Its unusual combination of features are thought to have been caused by interactions between NGC 4388 and the Virgo Cluster. Gravitational interactions — from glancing blows to head-on collisions, tidal influencing, mergers, and galactic cannibalism — can be devastating to galaxies. While some may be lucky enough to simply suffer a distorted spiral arm or newly-triggered wave of star formation, others see their structure and contents completely and irrevocably altered.

This was taken about a half an hour after my band shell picture, just moments before the sun rose above the clouds. It's a croporama (one image, cropped in vertically, to make a panorama) of the old dock pilings just off the boat launch down next to the East End Beach in Portland, Maine. New Year's Day 2014, about 7:20am. . .

The India Gate (Hindi: इंडिया गेट) is the national monument of India. It is one of the largest war memorials in India. Situated in the heart of New Delhi, India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Originally known as All India War Memorial, it is a prominent landmark in Delhi and commemorates the 90,000 soldiers of the erstwhile British Indian Army who lost their lives fighting for the British Indian Empire, or more correctly the British Empire in India British Raj in World War I and the Afghan Wars.
Originally, a Statue of King George V had stood under the now-vacant canopy in front of the India Gate, and was removed to Coronation Park with other statues. Following India's independence, India Gate became the site of the Indian Army's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, known as the Amar Jawan Jyoti (Immortal Soldier).
