decending Snaefell in car 1 of the Snaefell Mountain Railway
Car 1 = built by GF Milnes in 1895. Has recently undergone heavy rebuilt and refurbishment and now painted in the original blue livery used on the line.
Exact location kindly identified by Gary T W after earlier "Isle of Man" caption asking for help with pinpointing location.
For me the plaque was a stop and make you grateful to be enjoying the hills, to think of someone who delighted in the hills with his dog, and a nice framing of Ian.
Footage along the MER with tram 9 providing the traction and the ride filmed from on board trailer 40.
Tram 9 is a "Tunnel Car" new in 1894 and built by GF Milnes.
Trailer 40 is formed of a 1930 body built by English Electric fitted to Milnes trucks dating from 1894, salvaged from the 1930 depot fire.
We had explored Summerhill Glen on one of the evenings; and as we had time to fill on our last morning we decided to explore in the light.
Summerhill Glen has two entrances. The top entrance is at the top of Victoria Road, and the main entrance is on Summerhill. On the evening walk we used the main entrance and went up the glen, on this explore we had done a loop walk and started from the entrance in Victoria Road.
In the 1980's a fairy grotto was created near to the top end of the glen and this is still popular today, this is one of the more recent additions.
From the inscription plaque

"Port St Mary residents are proud to act as custodians to this memorial. Information boards at the site explain the vital contribution of the Isle of Man to the Dunkirk evacuations, and the men who were lost are commemorated on the walls of the memorial."
I had not know that the Isle of Man Ferries had been involved in the Dunkirk rescues, and that so many had lost their lives. The memorial is well worth a visit if you are nearby.
This is not photoshopped. The glen has been fitted with colour changing lights. The effect is magical and well worth a visit.
Very low light levels and lots of people milling around, so I am very pleased with how this turned out.

"A motorcycle which was used in the 1914 Junior TT has been acquired for a new TT exhibition in the Manx Museum.
The 350cc AJS was built in 1913 and originally belonged to Billy Jones who finished 4th in the race.
It is one of the few surviving pre-WW1 machines linked to the TT and is the first that the Manx National Heritage (MNH) has acquired after many years of searching."

"PUBLIC TOILETS
This was the original "Powder House", where
Gunpowder was stored for use in the Mine.
The powder was kept in a secure stone
shed within the compound, constructed
with double walls to ensure any accidental
blast was contained, and, it is believed, there
was no roof - leaving any such possible blast
directed upwards - and out of harms way.
It is still the same structure
today, containing any such blasts
during current usage !"

In Port Erin the hotels and Pormenade look somewhat deserted as a result of the rise of cheap flights, as is usual along all the coastlines of the British Isles. In the Second World War this section was used as a camp for German and Austrian Brits.
The Gaiety Theatre and Opera House is a theatre in Douglas, Isle of Man which together with the Villa Marina forms the VillaGaiety complex. The Gaiety is situated on Douglas promenade, overlooking the sea and adjacent to the Villa Gardens, Arcade and Butts.
Built in 1899 to the designs of architect Frank Matcham as an opera house and theatre, the Gaiety, along with the nearby Villa Marina, stands on the site of a lodge occupied in the early 19th century by Castle Mona architect and Atholl family retainer George Steuart, and then later bought by benefactor Henry Bloom Noble and donated for recreational use.
