Para el reto semanal de Smile on Saturday!: My name is...

This is probably the most photographed barn in the world! Well, at least I know it is an icon in the old west! I love the spectacular backdrop of the Teton Mountain Range. The best shots are captured early in the morning, I hope to do that someday!

This is a view from the Elgol road on the Isle Of Skye looking across to the West Coast of the Scottish mainland. It shows that winter had arrived on land but not on the island at this point.

Mendocino is a California town with great food and art. It sits on a rocky headland with a scenic trail. We liked to follow it around and then come back over a hill to the starting point. There are fine views of the coastal rocks and wave action as seen in this image taken on the north side. It is meditative to sit and watch the waves surge through them.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a large park with an eminent garden in Shinjuku and Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally a residence of the Naitō family in the Edo period. Afterwards, it became a garden under the management of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan. It is now a park under the jurisdiction of the national Ministry of the Environment.

The shogun bequeathed this land to Lord Naitō (daimyo) of Tsuruga in the Edo period who completed a garden here in 1772. After the Meiji Restoration the house and its grounds were converted into an experimental agricultural centre. It then because a botanical garden before becoming an imperial garden in 1879. The current configuration of the garden was completed in 1906. Most of the garden was destroyed by air raids in 1945, during the later stages of World War II. The garden was rebuilt after the war.

The jurisdiction over the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and the Kyoto imperial garden was transferred to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (now part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) in 1947.

On May 21, 1949 the garden became open to the public as "National Park Shinjuku Imperial Gardens". It came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment in January 2001 with the official name "Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden".

Matthew the Apostle, also known as Saint Matthew and possibly as Levi, was, according to the New Testament, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist, a claim rejected by most biblical scholars, though the "traditional authorship still has its defenders."

The Moyka River is a small river in Russia that encircles the central portion of Saint Petersburg, effectively making it an island. The river, originally known as Mya, derives its name from the Ingrian word for "slush" or "mire". It is 5 kilometres (3 mi) long and 40 metres (130 ft) wide.

The river flows from the Fontanka River near the Summer Garden past the Field of Mars, crosses Nevsky Avenue and the Kryukov Canal before entering the Neva River delta. It is also connected with the Neva by the Swan Canal and the Winter Canal.

In 1711 Peter the Great ordered the consolidation of the banks of the river. After the Kryukov Canal linked it with the Fontanka River four years later, the Moyka became so much clearer that its name was changed from Mya to Moyka, associated with the Russian verb "to wash".

Magnificent 18th-century edifices lining the Moyka quay include the Stroganov Palace, Razumovsky Palace, Yusupov Palace, New Holland Arch, Circular Market, St. Michael's Castle, and the last accommodation and museum of Alexander Pushkin.

When the holy deed is done (yea)

And I wanna' know

Who you talkin' to man?

And I wanna' know

Who you talkin' to man?

And I wanna' know

Who you talkin' to man?

I'm gonna' grab your throat

I'm gonna' take your worth

I'm gonna' tell you something

Something you've never heard

Who knows you better than I

The one you've never known

I'll give you back your body

The mute swan is a large, graceful waterfowl recognised by its bright white plumage, long curved neck, and distinctive orange bill with a black knob at the base. Common across lakes, rivers, and coastal estuaries, it is often seen gliding slowly over calm water or feeding by dipping its head below the surface. Despite its name, the mute swan is not silent and produces soft grunts, hisses, and wing-beats that create a distinctive throbbing sound in flight. It is territorial during the breeding season and typically nests close to the water’s edge.

Swaledale is in the north of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The beautiful dale is renowned for its numerous stone barns dotted across the landscape, together with its many dry stone walls and its Swaledale sheep - a particularly hardy breed. Until the end of the 19th century, it was an important lead-mining centre, but when the industry effectively closed, many people left the dale to find a living elsewhere. The remains of the industry can still be seen on the fell tops.

The Peugeot 404 is a large family car produced by French automobile manufacturer Peugeot from 1960 to 1975.

A truck body style variant was marketed until 1988.

Styled by Pininfarina, the 404 was offered initially as a saloon, estate, and pickup. A convertible was added in 1962, and a coupé in 1963. The 404 was fitted with a 1.6 litre petrol engine, with either a Solex carburetor or Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection or a 1.9 litre diesel engine available as options. Introduced at the Paris Motor Show as an option was the inclusion of a 3-speed ZF automatic transmission, similar to the unit already offered on certain BMW models, as an alternative to the standard column-mounted manual unit.

Popular as a taxicab, the 404 enjoyed a reputation for durability and value.

The 404 was manufactured under licence in various African countries until 1991 (in Kenya) and was manufactured in Argentina by Safrar/Sevel in El Palomar; in Québec, Canada at the St-Bruno-de-Montarville Sociéte de Montage Automobile (SoMA) Ltd. plant (1965–1968); in New Zealand by Campbell Industries; in Australia by Renault Australia Pty. Ltd.; and in Chile by Automotores Franco Chilena S.A. in Los Andes. Peugeot's French production run of 1,847,568 404s ended in 1975.

A total of 2,885,374 units had been produced worldwide at the end of production.

As the model was designed by Pininfarina, the bodyshell is very similarly styled to the one used in the 1959 Austin Westminster.

Boulders Beach is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders, from which the name originated. It is located on the Cape Peninsula, in Simon's Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is also commonly known as Boulders Bay. It is a popular tourist spot because of a colony of African penguins which settled there in 1982. Boulders Beach forms part of the Table Mountain National Park.

These African penguins are only found on the coastlines of Southern Africa (South Africa and Namibia). These penguins are currently endangered. As a result, the penguins are under the protection of the Cape Nature Conservation.

Although set in a residential area, it is one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird (Spheniscus demersus) can be observed at close range, wandering freely in a protected natural environment. From just two breeding pairs in 1982, the penguin colony has grown to about 3000 birds in recent years. This is partly due to the prohibition of commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay, which has increased the supply of sardines and anchovies, which form part of the penguins' diet. as well as the help from former SANDF naval officer, Van the Penguin Man

Bordered mainly by indigenous bush above the high-water mark on the one side, and the clear water of False Bay on the other, the area comprises several small sheltered bays, partially enclosed by granite boulders that are 540 million years old.

The most popular recreational spot is Boulders Beach, but the penguins are best viewed from Foxy Beach, where newly constructed boardwalks take visitors to within a few metres of the birds. It is also a famous swimming beach, although people are restricted to beaches adjacent to the penguin colony.

Spring is awakening everywhere. Have a wonderful new week, Flickr friends.

Horn Castle is one of the oldest, still intact circular castles in the Netherlands. The castle probably dates from the 10th or 11th century and was originally in the hands of robber knights who obtained income by levying tolls on traffic on the busy Meuse river. The oldest mentioned ruler of the area around the village of Horn is Engelbert van Horn, son of Dirk van Horn. The castle is first mentioned in a letter from 1243.

Nuremberg Castle (German: Nürnberger Burg) is a group of medieval fortified buildings on a sandstone ridge dominating the historical center of Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany.

The castle, together with the city walls, is considered to be one of Europe's most formidable medieval fortifications. It represented the power and importance of the Holy Roman Empire and the outstanding role of the Imperial City of Nuremberg.

In the Middle Ages, German kings (respectively Holy Roman Emperors after their coronation by the Pope) did not have a capital, but voyaged from one of their castles (Kaiserpfalz or Imperial castle) to the next. Thus, the castle at Nürnberg became an important imperial castle, and in the following centuries, all German kings and emperors stayed at the castle, most of whom on several occasions.

Nuremberg Castle comprises three sections: the Imperial castle (Kaiserburg), the former Burgraves' castle (Burggrafenburg), and the buildings erected by the Imperial City at the eastern site (Reichsstädtische Bauten).

The first fortified buildings appear to have been erected around 1000. Thereafter, three major construction periods may be distinguished:

•the castle built under the Salian kings respectively Holy Roman Emperors (1027–1125);

•a new castle built under the Hohenstaufen emperors (1138–1254);

•re-construction of the Palas as well as various modifications and additions in the late medieval centuries.

The castle lost its importance after the Thirty Years' War (1618 to 1648). In the 19th century with its general interest in the medieval period, some modifications were added. During the Nazi period, in preparation of the Nuremberg party rally in 1936, it was "returned to its original state." A few years later, during World War II and its air raids in 1944/1945, a large part of the castle was laid in ruins. It took some thirty years to complete the rebuilding and restoration to its present state.

MRL 256 and BNSF 1902 switch cars in Laurel, MT on an RCO job at the east end of the yard.

After the MRL takeover, BNSF power has started making more appearances on yard jobs and locals throughout the former MRL system. While the takeover is unfortunate, it has brought in some interesting BNSF motive power. Pairs like this are now common in Laurel for their BNSF counterparts RCO capabilities.

This Alligator is on the bank next to a low foot bridge crossing a small creek. He turned his head and followed me and my companion as we crossed the bridge. Both myself and my friend kept a close eye on this one and moved quickly to the bridge.

It is summer in the city and I love it. What happened with the spring I don't care as long as the summer is here.

Would you call this art? What is art? Can photographs become art?

This is a hill near my house... when I was little, this hill had a bump about a third of the way down the slope. Every time my mom would load the car up with kids to drive us to the pool, in the summertime, she would go down this hill, and when the car would go over that smooth bump and then whoosh on down the hill, it would give us a little "roller coaster" feeling, which we called a "whoopsie!".

In later years they removed the bump in the hill, because kids were making their cars take flight by speeding over the bump... and wrecking their cars, and getting hurt. So, no more "whoopsie"!

I have always thought it was a beautiful spot. The park is on one side, and some farms which never gave way to the encroaching city are on the other side. Thus, the wooden fence.

So, Happy Fenced Friday, everyone!

This is a "hand-crafted" HDR made out of three hand-held shots with exposure values of -4/3, -1/3 and +2/3.

We were on the approach to the via ferrata Häntzschelstiege in Saxon Switzerland when I found this spot. Unfortunately I had to make my shots during the noon sun.. :/

Søre Lia is a farm in Norway and has an elevation of 840 metres.

Lia is a village in Sør-Fron Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway.

The village is located in the Gudbrandsdal valley along the south shore of the Gudbrandsdalslågen river, about 2 kilometres to the southeast of the village of Hundorp which lies on the other side of the river

The Eurasian siskin (Spinus spinus) is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae. It is also called the European siskin, common siskin or just siskin.

It is very common throughout Europe and Asia. It is found in forested areas, both coniferous and mixed woodland where it feeds on seeds of all kinds

It can be distinguished from other similar finches by the color of the plumage. The upper parts are greyish green and the under parts grey-streaked white. Its wings are black with a conspicuous yellow wing bar, and the tail is black with yellow sides. The male has a mainly yellow face and breast, with a neat black cap. Female and young birds have a greyish green head and no cap. It is a trusting, sociable and active bird. The song of this bird is a pleasant mix of twitters and trills. For these reasons it is often raised in captivity.

These birds have an unusual migration pattern as every few years in winter they migrate southwards in large numbers.

Summer is over, and what a strange summer it has been for so many people around the world. Many people have doubts about what will happen concerning the pandemic, but it is nice to think about the beautiful things this hot season brought us. For the rest of my life I will have memories of those many happy moments. My summer took me to wonderful places that I shared through images and videos with the important people in my life. I like summers because millions of people smile and that is always a beautiful to me.

Chimney Rock Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Here is where Georgia O'Keeffe found the inspiration for her works of art. Ghost Ranch is a former dude ranch located on 21,000 acres of high desert landscape sixty-five miles northwest of Santa Fe. O’Keeffe first painted the purple hills of Ghost Ranch in 1934 and in 1936 she rented a house that she bought in 1940—an adobe hacienda at the base of the cliffs with a patio facing the distant mountains.

Ghost Ranch has been the source of major dinosaur discovery for decades. In the mid 1940s, Edwin “Ned” Colbert and George Whitaker found a quarry of bones belonging to Coelophysis bauri—a dino that was like a small version of the Tyrannosaurus rex and was probably roughly what all early dinosaurs looked like. The deposit was a rare discovery, and since then, more have been uncovered at the site and continue to be excavated.

The temperature has been well above freezing in recent days, and it’s been raining. The snow is melting fast.
