There's only artificial light here

My flaws hide well here

I used to be afraid of cluttered noises

Now I'm afraid of silence

I wanted to try a few different kayak angles. It was a beautiful night and I remember thinking, "Ahh, now this is heaven on earth" and felt glad to be alive.

Kayaking: the ultimate freedom on water.

The mood today is cloudy. :) Picture is dark because it is very close to as it was today. :D

Under the Milky Way in Wonoka creek north of Hawker, SA. Venus just above the horizon! 3 shot vertical pano, 2 external flashes, processed in Photoshop.

A colorful bird that is common throughout the country and is the state bird for many South Indian States. These are found all the way to the Middle East and are easily identified by their unique colors. The are about 30-35 cms tall and often sighted perched on power lines, fence posts and sometimes on grass bales in the countryside.

The birds hunt insects like beetles, grasshoppers and dragonflies. Sometimes they are seen on the ground in the grass picking up insects. They are not social birds and sightings are of solitary birds or at best two of them. During our last weekend trip to a grassland, sighted one of them foraging in the grassland. It flew to various trees sometimes coming to the ground and catching insects.

Thank you very much in advance for your views, faves and feedback.

A child is........

A butterfly in the wind,

Some can fly higher than others;

but each one flies the best it can.

Why compare one against the other?

Each one is different!

Each one is special!

Each one is beautiful!

... looking through my archives.

As I have been a photographer pro for 25 years now, so I have quite a collection. And seeing some them back, it is like meeting an old friend again, I am immediately transported into another time, another place, I relieve some special moments, milestones in my life.

I sigh over lost souls and smile over others.

Yes, I relive the versatility and magic through seeing my photo's.

Here: THE MERCATOR, AT SEA, AT LAST

... I photographed her voyage from her birthplace in centre of town, all through her passage through the harbour channel.

Running alongside her.

At last, she's at sea, late, the sun is going, the mist and night coming... she's been escorted by smaller boats as salute.

I photograph her for as long as I can...

THANk you, M, (*_*)

I posted this image a couple of years ago, but thought I'd post it again, as it is so applicable right now. BC is in a state of emergency, with so many wildfires, and tens of thousands of people evacuated. My heart goes out to the many, many people have lost their homes and businesses. Travel has been restricted to anywhere in the Okanagan, which is where everyone goes on vacation in the summertime. Here in North Vancouver, the air is smoky, thick and grey with an orange glow.

I just hope that we get some rain soon, and that the firefighters are able to put the fires out.

Just for fun, a picture of Anglesey Barracks with spaceship planted in using generative fill. I realise now as I browse Flickr that more and more people are using this feature and it’s becoming harder to determine the fake from reality.

This is Iceland. An island with the wild North Atlantic Ocean to the south and the Norwegian Sea to the north. A place where you might sometimes think you're on a different planet. A country whose population is often dwarfed by the number of tourists who visit. Home to the friendliest people you'll ever meet. A small island with landscapes larger than life.

If you've never visited Iceland, drop everything and go now. Of all the countries I've visited around the world, Iceland is not only cool (and I'm not referring to the temperatures), but it ranks near the top of my most favourite places in the world. I've visited Iceland numerous times dating back well before it became a wildly popular destination. There were few hotel choices when I first visited. Today there are an abundance of hotels in the city centre of Rejkjavik.

Reyjavik alone is charming enough for you to know you've chosen the right travel destination. The city centre is relatively small and most definitely walkable. You'll find numerous bars, restaurants and shops and outdoor public spaces to sit back and watch Icelanders go by.

But it's the majestic landscape that will capture your heart and imagination. The mountains are glorious. The glaciers are enormous. There are plenty of tours that will take you to the top sights. Private guides will take you to places few others see. If you prefer to go on your own, rent a car.

This is but a short drive from where I have moved to and it's truly lovely to have somewhere to go in winter to photograph wildlife. This pup was pretty close to the viewing path and had just fed.

Camellia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. Camellias are evergreen shrubs or small trees up to 20 m tall. They are found in eastern and southern Asia, from the Himalayas east to Japan and Indonesia. There are about 300 species and around 3,000 hybrids. Their flowers are usually large and conspicuous, one to 12 cm in diameter, with five to nine petals in naturally occurring species of camellias. The colors of the flowers vary from white through pink colors to red. Of economic importance in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, leaves of C. sinensis are processed to create the popular beverage tea. The ornamental C. japonica, C. sasanqua and their hybrids are the source of hundreds of garden cultivars. C. oleifera produces tea seed oil, used in cooking and cosmetics. The various species of camellia plants are generally well-adapted to acid soils rich in humus, and most species do not grow well on chalky soil or other calcium-rich soils. Most species of camellias also require a large amount of water, either from natural rainfall or from irrigation, and the plants will not tolerate droughts. However, some of the more unusual camellias – typically species from karst soils in Vietnam – can grow without too much water. 34666

Sawdon Balk is a Public Bridleway that links the villages of Sawdon and Rushton in North Yorkshire. This is a view South across Seamer Ings and on towards the Yorkshire Wolds or it would be as we were under a blanket of low cloud for much of the day.A very typical Bank Holiday, but hey it sure beats work and it didn't stop me from being out and about.

Many thanks for taking the time to view this and other image in my photo stream.

The Skagerrak is a strait running between the Jutland peninsula of Denmark, the southeast coast of Norway and the west coast of Sweden, connecting the North Sea and the Kattegat sea area through the Danish Straits to the Baltic Sea.

The Skagerrak contains some of the busiest shipping routes in the world, with vessels from every corner of the globe. It also supports an intensive fishing industry. The ecosystem is strained and negatively affected by direct human activities. Oslo and Gothenburg are the only large cities in the Skagerrak region.

Thanks for looking in - Have a great day!

Some dear friends call me Haze, instead of Hazel

My husband had the idea of gathering some hazelnuts from under the hazel trees near our stream. They are a bit wobbly to 'write' with which suits me fine.........

I'm also thinking of chocolate and hazel nuts.

And squirrels who missed these ones.

And my background for Haze had to be purple.

People give flowers as presents because flowers contain the true meaning of love. Anyone tries to possess a flower will have to watch its beauty fading. But if you simply look at a flower on a field, you will keep it forever, because the flower is part of the evening and the sunset and the smell of damp earth and the clouds on the horizon. (Paulo Coelho)

(Paulo Coelho)

Life is the fire that burns and the sun that gives light. Life is the wind and the rain and thunder in the sky. Life is matter and is earth, what is and what is not and what beyond is in eternity.

"More candy over here, cutes!"

My item at The Season Story!!!

A medium-sized dark-backed albatross with pale underwings outlined by a narrow dark border and a dark notch in the armpit. The adult has a whitish head with grayish cheeks that give it a “white-capped” appearance. The gray-green bill has a yellowish tip to both mandibles. Juveniles are grayer on the head with gray bills. The species breeds on islands off Tasmania and New Zealand but disperses widely across the southern Oceans between 15 and 60°S, where it is a frequently encountered pelagic seabird. Similar albatrosses have a dark-tipped (not pale-tipped) lower half to the bill, and Salvin’s Albatross has a pale gray head and Chatham Albatross a slaty-gray head, further differentiating them from White-capped Albatross. Juveniles of these three are very difficult to separate. (eBird)

-----------------

By far the most frequently seen albatraoss of our trip. Usually seen gliding effortlessly over the ocean, this one decided to join the fun of our albatross hunt. He is one of the four species that we found that day.

With the dark clouds over the oil refineries, this picture could be a metaphor for our future with fossil fuels, which were great at one time, but which hopefully are ready disappear into the sunset!

This is from last December. But still here is snow everywhere and this morning it was -13C

There are few signs though: you can hear the water on the streams flowing and I've seen a bunch of snowdrops

CP 7043 is leading CSX K026-23 which has just changed crews at North Baltimore. Q135-23 is crossing all the way over and pulling into the yard on the lead to the left in this view and the oil train will have to wait a few minutes for the long intermodal with a cut of autoracks on the end to clear the crossovers.
