No that's better, it's a Lambo

Nothing more than a pigeon up the top of next door's Silver Birch tree . Took it to see if it could go abstract for SSC this week , the jury is well out on hat one !!

Our backyard is full of Lady Bugs this year. We have lots of aphids so there is plenty of food for them to feast on. We also have lots of finches too which I suspect are eating the lady bugs.

April is one of my favorite months, the weather is not too hot yet and it is not cold either, the afternoons are usually cool, which is why I decided to walk for a while along the coast, watching the seagulls fly through the air while I clear my head of the stress of the city.

Spring is here, just outside my door!

River Frome, Stroud.

The Dipper is a short-tailed, stout bird with a low, whirring flight. When perched on a rock, it bobs up and down and often sticks its tail up. Its white throat and breast contrasts with its dark body plumage. It's a daring hunter, walking into and under water in search of food. (RSPB).

A flashback to earlier in the year. June 2024. Where these Dippers live is always in the shade of the trees so it can be quite tricky getting a reasonable shot. Dropping the shutter speed so low (hand held) and hoping a bird that is constantly bouncing will stay still just long enough to get at least one sharp photo!

My thanks to anyone who views, faves or comments on any of my photos. It is much appreciated.

At last, we have finally received a measurable snowfall. It is 7:45 AM, and it looks like we have received 6 inches so far - and the snow continues to fall.

It is eerily silent outside. So quiet in fact - that you can hear that proverbial pin drop.

The animals must be settled into their hidey holes to wait out the storm, so Doc will not need to hurry out to the feeder stations this morning.

Because of the warm weather here in Alaska, bears are still roaming many areas of the state and people have recently been mauled by them. Hopefully the cooler weather and the snow will drive them into their dens.

In this photo you see our trusty old one ton truck blanketed in white, while the temperature sits at 17 degrees F. with no wind.

Joensuu is a small town in Finland. It's name translates to: rivermouth or Joe'smouth :-) Sorry about the low resolution. Image got destroyed by some of the post processing apps I used last night :-)

The green waves now follow the green wall.

This is the second photo from the Rolling Hills location in Moravia, Czech Republic.

At the same time, this is my absolute favorite photo from the entire tour. If I had returned home after three days with just this photo, I would have been completely satisfied (of course I'm still happy that that's not the case).

This picture shows a slightly wider view of the hills behind the line of trees. Because of this, and because of the more intense "light and shadow play", it has a completely different dynamic than the version I showed you last week.

My wish as a photographer is to create at least one photo every month, which I really like. With this photo here, I have definitely achieved this target for April.

The Yellow-eared Parrot (Ognorhynchus icterotis) is an emblematic species of Colombia’s high-altitude cloud forests, and Roncesvalles, Tolima, is one of the few strongholds where it can still be found. This photograph captures the parrot perched delicately among dried, curling leaves, its bright green and yellow plumage illuminated by the soft, golden hues of the setting sun. The background, a blend of deep blues and warm earth tones, adds depth and contrast, highlighting the bird’s striking colors.

Shooting this endangered species in perfect light required patience and careful positioning. The interplay between natural light and the bird’s feathers created a rich texture, while the shallow depth of field ensured the subject stood out sharply from its surroundings. The composition balances the organic flow of the branches with the parrot’s confident posture, making for a dynamic yet peaceful image. Moments like these remind me why conservation and photography go hand in hand—preserving not just images, but the stories of these rare birds.

Mount Kailash itself is known in the Tibetan language as Gang Ti-se and informally as Gang Rinpoche ("Precious Snow Mountain"), to the Bon as Yungdrung Gutsek ("Nine stacked Svastikas"). Though only 6714 m high, it stands quite alone like a great white sentinel guarding the main routes into Tibet from India and Nepal in the south and west.

Traditionally a pilgrim undertakes the 52-km trekking cirquit or circumambulation (khorlam) around Mount Kailash commencing at Darchen (4575 m) and crossing the 5630 m Dolma La pass on the second day of the three-day walk. This is followed by a trek of the same duration around the beautiful turquiose Lake Manasarovar known in the Tibetan language as Mapham Yutso

ODC-Where I Live Is Known For...

This area of Upstate, NY is known for its beautiful waterfalls and gorges. In fact there's a saying here "ithaca Is Gorges!" It really is!!!

This is part of the view on 17 Mile Drive, on the Monterey Peninsula. There are tons of beaches in California, but there are also a few very beautiful rugged places like this. A little south of Monterey is Big Sur, which is definitely one of the most beautiful places on the planet and it has a rugged coastline, like this. Most days you can see a lot of seals playing and sometimes a few dolphins leaping out of the water. It’s an idyllic and very beautiful place.

No train in Japan is more famous, nor more sought after, than JR Central and JR West's 923 Series, better known worldwide as "Doctor Yellow"

Originally built in 1998, these trains were rebuilt from the original 700 Series. Their role is to make sure the Tokaido and San'yo Shinkansen routes are kept in peak condition through inspection. Each 923 series contains a myriad of track and overhead measurement equipment housed in 7 cars. Monitoring is done on board by a 9-person crew of railway technicians.

It is said here that seeing Doctor Yellow by chance is considered to bring good luck. At best, they'll operate 3-4 times a month. No official schedule exists, but there are unofficial ways to check if they're running, though by no means is it a guarantee. Regardless, I'm thrilled to finally see one for myself!

I love my vintage Santas, and think I’ve put them to good use.

The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometres over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms.[6] This reef structure is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. It supports a wide diversity of life and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981. CNN labelled it one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Queensland National Trust named it a state icon of Queensland.

A large part of the reef is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, which helps to limit the impact of human use, such as fishing and tourism. Other environmental pressures on the reef and its ecosystem include runoff, climate change accompanied by mass coral bleaching, and cyclic population outbreaks of the crown-of-thorns starfish. According to a study published in October 2012 by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the reef has lost more than half its coral cover since 1985.

The Great Barrier Reef has long been known to and used by the Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and is an important part of local groups' cultures and spirituality. The reef is a very popular destination for tourists, especially in the Whitsunday Islands and Cairns regions. Tourism is an important economic activity for the region, generating over $3 billion per year.

I always had the plan to post more shots of the wonderful Iskanderkul in Tajikistan, but it is already three years ago that I finished my trip through central Asia, and how the world has changed since then.

Beside this shot www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/49221949713/in/photol..., that I posted a long time ago, there were many more.

This image was taken when we left early next morning. The scenery was gorgeous thanks to the light and the haze, and the lake got a wonderful turquoise color.

Iskanderkul is situated in the northwest of Tajikistan, in the Fann-mountains. I am not sure if it was named after Alexander the great, the stories are somewhat vague on this matter, but what is sure is that the dacha of the Tajik president is situated at the east end of the lake.

We spent two days at this lake, and although this scenery is fantastic it took me a lot of pictures to capture its grandness. Not only the lake but the surrounding mountains are so stunning you don't know where to look all the time. Enjoy!

20 September 2019 I came back from my journey over a part of the Silk Road to and through Central Asia. 4 months of traveling through 14 countries (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran) before I flew home from Teheran. An impressive journey in countries that are extremely beautiful, with lovely and welcoming people and diverse cultures and history.

Intense traveling with more than 20000 kilometers in our mobile home on sometimes roads that hardly could be called that way. We saw many villages and cities (some wonderful, others very ugly), countries that are transforming from the old Soviet era into something more related to older cultures and the way people live, often funded by oil readily available around the Caspian sea. We saw the amazing mountains south of the Black Sea, the wonderful Caucasus, and the high mountains in the far east close to China with peaks over 7000 meter, and not to forget the (Bulgarian) Alps!

We crossed the great steppe of Kazakhstan. a drive of at least 5000 km, the remnants of lake Aral, once one of the biggest lakes of the world, saw a rocket launch from Baikonur (this little part is Russian owned), we crossed many high mountains passes, and drove the breathtaking canyon that comes from the Pamir, beginning at ca 4500 meter, and going down for ca. 400km to an altitude of 1300 meter, driving for 100's of kilometers along the Afghan border.

And then the numerous lakes with all sorts of different colors from deep cobalt blue to turquoise, and one rare spectacle in Turkmenistan where a gas crater is burning already for more than 40 years. And finally and certainly not the least to mention an enormous amount of wonderful, hospitable and welcoming people. The woman often dressed in wonderful dresses, and bringing a lot of color in the streets of almost of all countries we visited.

Since I need some winter images for a proper photo calendar i looked for something worth capturing during those days when we had at least a little bit of snow.

Actually the amount of snow we had wasn’t even enough to cover the grass on this hill, so I cloned out hundreds of grass blades, which was great fun.

Not.

Montserrat is located less than an hours train ride from Barcelona and is the home of a Benedictine monastery. The quickest route to the monastery is via the cable car (Aeri de Montserrat) offering great mountain views which lasts around five minutes.

The Matterhorn is a mountain of the Alps, straddling the main watershed and border between Switzerland and Italy. It is a large, near-symmetric pyramidal peak in the extended Monte Rosa area of the Pennine Alps, whose summit is 4,478 metres high, making it one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe.

Norwegen / Trøndelag - Bindalsfjord

Storåa

Bindalsfjorden is a fjord in the southern part of Nordland county, Norway. The fjord is mostly located in Bindal Municipality, with a small part in neighboring Sømna Municipality.

Geography

The 71-kilometre (44 mi) long fjord begins near the villages of Terråk and Vassås, where the Sørfjorden and Tosenfjorden join together. It then flows northwest, past the Bindalseidet isthmus, and then southwest past the village of Holm, before the mouth of the fjord by the island of Austra.

There are several large arms that branch off of the fjord, including the Ursfjorden to the north and the Kjella and Sørfjorden to the south. The innermost part of the Bindalsfjorden is known as the "Tosen". The deepest part of the fjord is by the island of Stavøya, where it is 741 metres (2,431 ft) deep.

(Wikipedia)
